Humanities Tennessee's Southern Festival of Books: A Celebration of the Written Word is an event that offers readers and writers an opportunity to interact and to create a public community around a festival that promotes and celebrates the joy of reading and lifelong learning. Each year, the festival brings to Nashville approximately 200 of the nation's and region's most prominent authors. Every author on the program takes part in a session, either a solo reading or a panel discussion, followed by a book signing. In addition, the festival hosts popular book exhibits and programs on three performance stages throughout the event. This year's event will take place at War Memorial Building & Legislative Plaza and the Nashville Public Library. Please note: road closures associated with this event. Capitol Boulevard will be closed Wednesday, October 11 through Sunday, October 15. Plus, Church Street (6th Avenue North to 7th Avenue North) will be closed during festival hours (Friday: noon - 5 pm, Saturday: 10 am - 6 pm and Sunday: noon - 5 pm).
