New restaurant - Jefferson's A Healthy Dose of Soul Restaurant!

Jefferson's A Healthy Dose of Soul. 1003 Jefferson Street. 367-9577. This restaurant puts a healthy twist on soul food. The menu features low-sodium items and only a few fried food items. Hours are Mon - Fri, 11 am - 9 pm and Sat - Sun, 11 am - 6 pm.

 

New restaurant and wine bar - The Wine Loft!

The Wine Loft. 503 12th Avenue South. 891-2967. This wine bar serves a variety of appetizers, main courses, desserts and a large selection of wine by the glass and bottle. Hours are Tues - Sat, 5 pm - 2 am.

The Big Surprise Tour

Thurs, Aug 13. Riverfront Park. Doors open at 5:30 pm, show at 7 pm. $35 in advance, $40 day of show. The Big Surprise Tour with Old Crow Medicine Show, Dave Rawlings Machine featuring Gillian Welch, The Felice Brothers and Justin Townes Earle. The groups will share the stage, resurrect old standards, and play newly written collaborative material as they go. NOTE: Road closures associated with this event. 1st Avenue between Church Street and Demonbreun and Broadway between 1st and 2nd Avenues will be closed from 9 am on Thursday, August 13 until 3 am on Friday, August 14.

 

Wine Tasting Event at The Standard

Thurs, Aug 13. The Standard. 167 Rosa Parks Boulevard. 254-1277. 8 pm. $25 (including tax and gratuity). Click here to see this week's menu featuring four wines and paired tastings. New Museums in Old Places

Sat, Aug 15. Frist Center for the Visual Arts. 919 Broadway. 244-3340. 2:00 pm. Free. Adaptive reuse can be a tricky architectural proposition, requiring a designer to respect what's original while meeting new and different needs. Join Nashville-based architecture and urban planning critic Christine Kreyling as she discusses and compares the Frist Center with some of the renovation and expansion projects featured in the exhibition "Museums in the 21st Century: Concepts, Projects, Buildings."

 

Urban Residents' Association Meeting

Mon, Aug 17. The Hermitage Hotel. 231 6th Avenue North. 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Join your downtown neighbors and meet Mayor Karl Dean. The mayor will speak about his plan for downtown retail and business development. New merchant access program cards are available. Bring your neighbors and friends.

 

Lunchtime Concert Series

Tues, Aug 18. Main Library, Courtyard. 615 Church Street. 862-5800. 11:45 am - 12:45 pm. Free. Bring a lunch to the library courtyard and enjoy a concert every Tuesday through October 6. Soulful vocalist Jonell Mosser will perform on August 18.
