Hard Rock Cafe Closed for Renovations The
Hard Rock Cafe (100 Broadway) is undergoing a multi-million dollar
renovation and will be closed until December 2009. The renovation includes a
new live music space, additional dining areas including a great open-air
terrace, and upscale design features.
Events this Week
Wed, Sept 23 - Sun, Oct 11. Nashville Children's Theatre. $12 - $17. This hit production returns to NCT as part of Nashville's yearlong celebration of America's greatest author, Mark Twain.
Thurs, Sept 24. Public Square. 100 Courthouse Plaza. Gates open at 5 pm, music starts at 6 pm. Free. This weekly event highlights local artists and national acts with roots in Music City. Dave Barnes, Matthew Perryman Jones, and Thad Cockrell perform. This free concert series continues every Thursday through October 8 in Public Square Plaza adjacent to the Metropolitan Courthouse. $3 parking available at the Metro Courthouse/Public Square Garage.
Customer Appreciation Party Thurs, Sept 24. Urban Sun. 209 10th Avenue South #227. 291-6800. Free. 5 - 7 pm. Customer appreciation party featuring special pricing, complimentary refreshments and lotion samples. Specials include half-price tanning packages, unlimited memberships starting at $18.95 and half-price tanning lotions.
Thurs, Sept 24. Mercy Lounge. One Cannery Row. 8:30 pm. $6 in advance. At the door: $7 (21+) and $10 (18-21). Indie rock bands The Comfies, Team Illuminati, Happy Birthday Amy and The Telecommunicators will perform along with professional circus performances, interactive art and painting. Plus, the theatrical genius of Doyle and Debbie, performances by The Love Drums, face painting and more. Proceeds benefit Food Security Partners of Middle Tennessee.
Fri, Sept 25. Cannery Ballroom. One Cannery Row. 7 pm - 1 am. $50 in advance, $60 at the door. The Phoenix Club of Nashville presents this annual event featuring food from over 20 local restaurants. Live music by the Chris Weaver Band.
Sat, Sept 26. Bicentennial Mall. Registration at 10 am, walk starts at noon. Free. A 3.1 mile walk, plus a health and wellness fair, pancake breakfast and more. Kids and pets are welcome. Participants are encouraged to collect donations from friends and colleagues for Nashville CARES.
Self Defense Seminar for Women Sat, Sept 26. FIT Nashville. 125 12th Avenue South. 770-2866. 10 am - noon. $29 in advance, $39 at the door. Self defense techniques, concepts of self preservation and more will be covered in this seminar. Proceeds benefit the Nashville Sexual Assault Center.
Sat, Sept 26. Main Library. 615 Church Street. 862-5800. 10:30 am and 11:30 am. Free. The Nashville Ballet's newest children's ballet is based on The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf. The story of a lovable bull that would rather sit and smell the flowers than fight and fuss like all the others.
Museum Day and Free Documentary Viewing Sat, Sept 26. Tennessee State Museum. 505 Deaderick Street. 741-2692. 1:30 pm. Free showing of the Smithsonian Channel's new documentary, Soul of a People. A film about the Federal Writers Project, one of four arts programs developed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt under the Works Progress Administration. Also, a short lecture by Will Akers, who teaches screenwriting and filmmaking at Vanderbilt. Plus, two new exhibits are on view at the museum: Talking Graphics and A Unity of Opposites.
Sat, Sept 26. The Lost Boys Center & Gallery. 535 4th Avenue South. 256-8302. Featuring historic works by renowned music photographers Baron Wolman, Henry Diltz, Danny Clinch, and Jim McGuire. Each photographer has donated ten or more works to benefit the Lost Boys Foundation.
Nashville Music Garden Dedication Ceremony Tues, Sept 29. Hilton Park. 4th Avenue South and Demonbreun. 321-3211. 10:30 am. Free. Dedication ceremony for this garden featuring over six dozen flowering plants with celebrity and country music-themed names. The ceremony will be emceed by Ralph Emery and many celebrities are confirmed to attend. The first 500 attendees will receive long-stemmed roses and biscuits from the Loveless Cafe.
Tues, Sept 29. Main Library, Courtyard. 615 Church Street. 862-5800. 11:45 am - 12:45 pm. Free. Bring a lunch and enjoy a concert every Tuesday through October 6. America's favorite cowboys, Riders in the Sky, will perform on September 29.
Bottomless Fondue Tues, Sept 29. The Melting Pot. 166 2nd Avenue North. 742-4970. $45 per person. One night only promotion includes unlimited cheese fondue, salad, entree and chocolate. Also, beer, wine and cocktail specials will be offered.

Mad Men Viewing Party Sundays. The Oak Bar at The Hermitage Hotel. 231 6th Avenue North. 345-7116. 8 pm - 10 pm. Enjoy AMC's hit TV show, Mad Men, in the comfort of the Oak Bar. Specialty drinks including Betty's Mint Gimlet and Don's Old Fashioned are available, as well as a themed-appetizer menu.
