Thurs, Oct 1. Public Square. 100 Courthouse Plaza. Gates open at 5 pm, music starts at 6 pm. Free. This weekly event highlights local artists and national acts with roots in Music City. Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, The Dynamites featuring Charles Walker, and Maureen Murphy perform. Every Thursday through October 8 in Public Square Plaza adjacent to the Metropolitan Courthouse. $3 parking available at the Metro Courthouse/Public Square Garage.
Thurs, Oct 1. Various downtown art galleries. 5 - 8 pm. Free.* Nashville Association of Art Dealers presents a monthly event for art lovers and patrons to explore Nashville's diverse and growing art scene. On the first Thursday of each month participating galleries invite the public to enjoy art after work. Downtown galleries participating include Rymer Gallery, The Arts Company, Tinney Contemporary, Tennessee State University's Hiram Van Gordon Memorial Gallery, and the Frist Center for the Visual Arts (see exhibit details in the First Saturday Art Crawl article below). *Admission to the exhibition galleries at the Frist Center requires a fee for non-members.

Sat, Oct 3. Main Library. 615 Church Street. 862-5800. 1 pm - 4 pm. Free. Join the Nashville Shakespeare Festival to read from the works of William Shakespeare, specifically A Midsummer Night's Dream. All voices, ages and dialects are welcome. Listeners are also encouraged.
Sat, Oct 3. Various downtown venues. 6 - 9 pm. Free. A sound art festival in conjunction with the First Saturday Art Crawl. One of the first festivals of this type in the country. This international festival brings new compositions from all over the world. Sound installations will be on display at Twist Art Gallery, The Showroom, MIR Gallery, Bel Arts Studio and the Downtown Presbyterian Church.
Sat, Oct 3. Various locations. 6 - 9 pm. Free. Art galleries throughout downtown host receptions and art openings every month. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. Four free shuttles provide transportation among the galleries from 6 pm to 10 pm. See the shuttle map and gallery listing here.
