Events this Week

 

9 to 5: The Musical

Now through Sun, Sept 26. TPAC. Performance times vary. $27.50 - $62.50. 9 to 5: The Musical tells the story of three unlikely friends who conspire to take control of their company and learn there is nothing they can not do - even in a man's world. Follow the plot of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era, filled with comedy, music, a little romance, and a lot of getting even. The musical features Dolly Parton's original hit title song along with her new Tony Award and Grammy-nominated score.

 

Live On the Green

Thurs, Sept 23. Public Square. 100 Courthouse Plaza. Gates open at 6 pm, performances start at 6:30 pm. Free. This weekly event highlights both local artists and national acts with Music City roots. The Wailers, Moon Taxi, Joe Robinson and TomFoolery perform on Thursday, September 23. This free concert series continues every Thursday through October 14 in Public Square Plaza adjacent to the Metropolitan Courthouse. $3 parking available at the Metro Courthouse/Public Square Garage.

 

Women's Half Marathon & 5K

Sat, Sept 25. Start line: Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Course: Throughout downtown and Nashville. 7 am. Free for spectators. This inaugural Women's Half Marathon starts and finishes in front of the Country Music Hall of Fame, and tours the best of Nashville throughout the race. The weekend begins with a two-day Health and Fitness Expo (Thursday, September 23 - Friday, September 24) at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. The expo is open to the public and features women-specific apparel, merchandise, and book signings by running celebrities. Plus, packet pick-up for registered runners including race number, timing tag and a goodie bag. Registration ($95) for the half marathon and 5K is available during the expo on Thursday and Friday but is not an option on race day. FREE Museum Day!

Sat, Sept 25. Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Frist Center for the Visual Arts and the Tennessee State Museum. Admission times vary depending on the museum. Free. Smithsonian Magazine's sixth annual Museum Day with participating museums and cultural institutions across the nation offering free admission to visitors who download tickets from this website. Visitors who present the official downloaded pass will receive free admission to either the Frist or the CMHOF for two adults. The museum of choice must be selected when downloading the free ticket. Note: admission for visitors 18 and younger is always free at the Frist Center. There is a limit of one pass (for two adults) per household, per email address. Also participating (but the special ticket is not needed because admission is free) is the Tennessee State Museum. What a great day to explore downtown's best museums!

 

8th Annual Wine on the River

Sat, Sept 25. Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge. 3 - 7 pm. $45 in advance, $55 day of event. Unique atmosphere for wine novices and connoisseurs alike. A "world tour" of hundreds of wine samples from vineyards across the country and around the world. New additions to this year's festival include beer and spirit samples. Live music by the Nashville Symphony Quartet, Trio San Rafael, David Andersen, and the Teri Reid Quartet. 15% of the proceeds will benefit Hands On Nashville.

 

Nashville Flacks Happy Hour

Mon, Sept 27. 315 Bar & Grill at the Hotel Indigo. 5:30 - 7 pm. Free. Public relations and communications professionals, join the Nashville Flacks for happy hour at 315 Bar & Grill located inside Hotel Indigo. The bar will offer drink and food specials including: 2 for 1 drafts, $6 specialty cocktails and $5 glasses of wine. Plus, a $7 appetizer special and a $5 dessert special. RSVP online here.

 

Lunchtime Concert Series

Tues, Sept 28. Main Library, Courtyard. 615 Church Street. 862-5800. 11:30 am. Free. Bring a lunch to the library courtyard and enjoy a concert every Tuesday through October 5. The Chris Cassello Trio will perform Rockabilly on September 28.
