The 2007 Downtown Nashville Business Census and Survey was implemented and carried out during the fall of 2007.
- The 2007 database included 1,402 separate entities (businesses, organizations and government offices) and a total employee count of 47,617 in the survey area.
- Looking at their position on October 1, 2007, 59% of the survey responders said their business has shown improvement over the past two years.
- The overall perception of 55% of the 2007 responders was that downtown is clean or very clean 54% said downtown is safe or very safe. While 80% of the responders indicated that public inebriates, transients and vagrants have some impact on their employees and/or clients.
- The Nashville Downtown Partnership analyzed the write-in comments and overall responses for trends and follow-up reports. All specific concerns have been forwarded to relevant Partnership committees and were factored into 2008 action plans and budgets.
- These annual census-survey findings allow the Partnership to (1) provide prospective developers and tenants with location-specific demographic data and customized maps and (2) implement proactive downtown business recruitment and retention strategies.
