New Salon: Dolce Vita!
215 6th Avenue N. 615-252-8885. This new salon is located near The Hermitage Hotel on 6th Avenue. Services offered include haircuts, shampoo and blowdry, updos, full color services, waxing, beard shaping and trims and more. Hours are Tues - Fri, 10 am - 6 pm and Sat, 10 am - 2 pm.

 

New Restaurant: Chase's Saloon Sports Bar and Grill!
128A 2nd Avenue N. 615-742-9190. This new bar and grill features a pub-fare menu and outdoor dining. Hours are Sun - Tues, 11 am - 1 am and Wed - Sat, 11 am - 3 am.

In Her Shoes

THURSDAY, MAY 12, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: UNION STATION HOTEL $35

The event features fabulous wine, delicious food, and a silent auction of hundreds of stylish shoes and handbags generously donated by Dillard’s, Monkee’s of Nashville, and other local stores. All proceeds from the event benefit the YWCA Weaver Domestic Violence Center—the largest domestic violence center in the state.


Relay for Life of Nashville

FRIDAY, MAY 13 - SATURDAY, MAY 14, 6 PM - 6 AM
LOCATION: LP FIELD $10 REGISTRATION FEE; DONATIONS ACCEPTED

Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society that offers the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around the track. The night is filled with food, music, a Kids' Zone, and fun. The Wild Orchids, a country pop group, take the stage at 8 pm on Friday night. Ceremonies include the traditional Luminaria Ceremony, which remembers loved ones lost to cancer and honors cancer survivors, and the Fight Back Ceremony.


Run for the Homeless 5K

SATURDAY, MAY 14, CHECK-IN: 6:30 AM; RACE: 8 AM
LOCATION: HILTON PARK $25 PER PERSON; $60 FOR A FAMILY OF 4

The Key Alliance is hosting its first annual 5K Run/Walk, a Nashville Striders Grand Prix series event. The USA Track & Field certified course will lead runners through downtown Nashville. The course goes near the Nashville Rescue Mission and the Room In The Inn's Campus for Human Development - both places frequented by individuals struggling with homelessness. All proceeds from this race will go towards The Key Alliance's efforts to end homelessness in Nashville. An awards ceremony with entertainment and drawings immediately follows the race.
 


Urban Residents Association's May Membership Meeting

MONDAY, MAY 16, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE DOWNTOWN PARTNERSHIP FREE

Downtown residents are encouraged to attend the URA's bimonthly business meeting. The agenda includes a downtown homeless summit featuring several guest speakers. Panelists include Erica Gilmore, Metro Council; Michael Jameson, Metro Council; Clifton Harris, Executive Director of the Homelessness Commission; Tasha French, Director of The Contributor; Erik Cole, Executive Director of the Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services; and Jason Reinbold, Central Precinct Commander, Metro Police.


Facts, Figures & Funds for Adult Literacy

WEDNESDAY, MAY 18, 7 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: RIVERFRONT TAVERN $20

A night of trivia to support the only organization teaching reading to Middle Tennessee adults, the Nashville Adult Literacy Council. With a $20 contribution, guests will receive a free drink, free appetizers and 2-for-1 drink specials. Bring a team or find one when you get there. Prizes will be awarded to the trivia champions.


Cookin' Out Country

WEDNESDAY, MAY 18, 11 AM - 2 PM
LOCATION: COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM $10

Head to the Country Music Hall of Fame for lunch during Wednesdays in May! Live music from 11:45 am to 12:15 pm, with autograph signings immediately following. Performance schedule includes Joey + Rory on May 18 and Bryan White on May 25. The performers will also be the guest cooks of the day! Use the Music City Circuit to get down to the Hall. Just hop on and get off at the Hilton Downtown stop and walk on over!


Lee Roy Parnell

Lee Roy Parnell is part of a long line of Texas roots-music eclectics and is among the elite few who can be identified as a triple threat: an ace guitarist as well as a distinctive singer and hit songwriter. His music runs the gamut of diversity: blue-eyed soul, Delta blues, road house rock, Southern boogie, Texas swing, and gospel. He draws from a broad range of music sources and combines them with seamless dexterity and, unlike many other hard-to-pigeonhole artists, Parnell has enjoyed a run of success on the country charts.

Art Museum Day

WEDNESDAY, MAY 18, 10 AM - 5:30 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts will offer free admission to all visitors as part of the Association of Art Museum Directors' Art Museum Day. Coinciding with International Museum Day, Art Museum Day will focus on the theme, "museum and memory." Participation by AAMD member museums emphasizes the lasting impact art museums have on their communities, highlights the value of the visual arts in society, and provides new opportunities for audiences to participate in the wide-ranging programs that art museums offer.

Four Day Parking Pass for CMA Music Festival

If you have made plans to attend the CMA Music Festival (June 9 - 12), you may want to purchase a four-day parking pass (with in and out priviliges) in the Metro Courthouse/Public Square Garage for $50.
