2011 Easter Seals Nashvillian of the Year Celebration

THURSDAY, MAY 26, 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM

The 18th annual Nashvillian of the Year Celebration honoring Steve Turner. Proceeds benefit Easter Seals Tennessee, an organization dedicated to helping children and adults with disabilities live with greater independence. Since 1993, the Nashvillian of the Year award has been given to Nashville’s notable leaders who best exemplify the qualities of leadership that ensure that Nashville continues to be a better place to live. Past honorees select the Nashvillian of the Year using criteria including individual contributions to the community, philanthropic causes and business leadership.

Experience the heart and soul of country music when Lorrie Morgan joins the Nashville Symphony for an evening of timeless hits and new classics. She will share personal songs from her new album I Walk Alone, and she’ll revisit some of the tunes that have made her one of country music's biggest stars.


Tennessee Ride4Cops

THURSDAY, MAY 26, 10 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL $20

C.O.P.S. - Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc., provides resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families and affected coworkers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. This motorcycle benefit ride has the following schedule. Registration and line-up of motorcycles in Bicentennial Mall at 10 am. The ride begins at 11 am and goes to LP Field. At noon, lunch for all participants in LP Field Lot R, followed by a memorial event at 12:30 pm.


Frist Friday featuring Same As It Ever Was

FRIDAY, MAY 27, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS

The popular summer concert series at the Frist is back! Knoxville-based Talking Heads tribute band, Same As It Ever Was, will perform in the courtyard. Light appetizers are provided and there is a cash bar. No admission charge for members, and non-members pay $10. Admission includes entrance to current exhibits. Additional Frist Fridays scheduled for June 24 and July 29.


Downtown Puppet Festival

FRIDAY, MAY 27 - SUNDAY, MAY 29, SHOW TIMES VARY BY DATE
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

Puppeteers from around the country will present shows to awe and astound. Enjoy performances of well-known favorites including The Frog Prince and Pinocchio, as well as original productions including Backwoods Ramblin', Images of China, and Suspended Animation. The Nashville Public Library’s 2011 Downtown Puppet Festival is a free, family-friendly event. The festival features performances by puppet troupes from across the country, jugglers, and puppetry workshops. The schedule of events provides a variety of entertainment for all ages. Tickets are free, but limited. Attendees may reserve tickets online for a service charge of $2.50 per ticket to guarantee seating.


Music City Urban Adventure Race

SATURDAY, MAY 28, 8 AM
LOCATION: RIVERFRONT PARK $55

The Music City Urban Adventure race is the newest addition to the "I Run For The Party" series. It's a scavenger hunt. It's a series of riddles. It's a sightseeing tour infused with knock-down-drag-out scrambling for clues to your next destination and hidden items you must gather to complete challenges. The route and the particulars of the course will remain a secret until the race begins. Come prepared to spend 4-6 hours biking, running and having fun throughout downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods.


Margaritaville Street Party

SATURDAY, MAY 28, 11 AM - 8 PM
LOCATION: JIMMY BUFFETT'S MARGARITAVILLE NASHVILLE FREE

Block party in front of Margaritaville (Broadway between 3rd and 4th Avenues) before Jimmy Buffett's concert at the Bridgestone Arena. Live music all day. Interactive entertainment and stilt walkers. Plus, contests, prizes, and Jimmy Buffett ticket giveaways. Grilled burgers and brats, cold beer and margaritas. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Hands On Nashville.
