Tap into the Tomorrow Fund

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22, 6 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: YAZOO BREWING COMPANY AND TAP ROOM FREE

Learn about the Tomorrow Fund and how you can join other young professionals doing work in the community. Yazoo will donate $1 to the Tomorrow Fund for each beer purchased during this event. Also, one lucky person who attends this event will win a free Summer VIP Package of unlimited haircuts for three months at Uncle Classic Barbershop.


Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman: Vince Gill

THURSDAY, JUNE 23, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: RYMAN AUDITORIUM $26.50

Grammy award-winning country singer and songwriter Vince Gill will kickoff the Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman series this summer. This is the one time a year that Gill will play an acoustic show devoted primarily to bluegrass. Additional concerts in this series include Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder on June 30, Sam Bush on July 7, Bill Monroe on July 14, Dailey & Vincent on July 21, and Doc Watson on July 28. Also, before each show there will be free music outside of the Ryman from 6 pm - 7 pm as part of the Pickin' on the Plaza series.


Handbags Fight Hunger

FRIDAY, JUNE 24, 5 PM - 7:30 PM
LOCATION: THE WINE LOFT

A benefit event for the Nashville Rescue Mission. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations of canned food items, bottled water, and travel sized toiletries. In turn they will receive a $10 gift voucher to be used toward the purchase of a Beijo handbag made at the event. 20% of the sales of Beijo handbags sold during this event will be donated to the Nashville Rescue Mission, as well as all proceeds raised from raffles and silent auction items. Complimentary appetizers and cocktails, plus free valet parking.


Summer Festival: Trombone Festival

FRIDAY, JUNE 24 - SATURDAY, JUNE 25, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $29 - $79

Trombonists from all over the world will converge in Nashville for the International Trombone Festival this summer, and the Schermerhon will welcome them with a bold, brassy world premiere: Daniel Schnyder’s jazzy Concerto for Trombone, which will feature Joseph Alessi, principal trombonist of the New York Philharmonic. Plus, Rachmaninoff’s final work, Symphonic Dances, a triumphant summation of his creative genius, full of rhythmic energy, rich harmonies and deeply felt emotions.


Frist Fridays Concert Series: The Long Players

FRIDAY, JUNE 24, 6 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS $10

The popular summer concert series at the Frist Center! The Long Players will perform in the courtyard. As homage to Andy Warhol’s love of, if not near obsession for, Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones, The Long Players will perform a faithful rendition of The Stones' album Sticky Fingers. Light appetizers are provided and there is a cash bar. No admission charge for members, and non-members pay $10. Admission includes entrance to current exhibits including Warhol Live (opening that day). An additional Frist Friday is scheduled for July 29.


Annie Sellick Live

SATURDAY, JUNE 25, 2:30 PM RECEPTION; 3 PM CONCERT
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

Jazz singer Annie Sellick will perform. A reception proceeds the concert at 2:30 pm.


Author Talk and Book Signing: Ann Patchett

TUESDAY, JUNE 28, 6:15 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

Author Ann Patchett was at the library’s grand opening weekend in 2001 and discussed her newly-published novel Bel Canto. Patchett will be at the library for the Nashville launch event of her newest work, State of Wonder. A reception, author talk, book sale and signing.


Books from Birth Dinner

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29
LOCATION: SOLE MIO

50% of all food sales on this night will be donated to Books from Birth and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Sole Mio hosts a dinner once a month that benefits a local non-profit organization. Reservations suggested.


Wait, Wait ... Don't Tell Me!

THURSDAY, JUNE 30, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: TPAC - TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER $30 - $60

Test your news' knowledge at a live taping of NPR's Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me! Join host Peter Sagal, official judge and scorekeeper Carl Kassell, and a line-up of witty panelists for a fast-paced, irreverent look at current events. It is a rare trip to Nashville for this oddly informative news quiz show, so don't "Wait, Wait" to buy tickets - shows sell out fast!


Designing the Library's Courtyard Garden: Ben Page

THURSDAY, JUNE 30, 11:30 AM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

Have you ever wondered about the plants and details in the Main Library’s Courtyard? Come learn more from Ben Page, the landscape architect who designed it. Bring your lunch and questions. This event will take place rain or shine.

 

Downtown Twilight Cruises on the Music City Queen

THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS NOW THROUGH SEPTEMBER 22, 7 PM AND 9:30 PM
LOCATION: RIVERFRONT PARK $20 - $25

Come on down to Riverfront Park this summer and take a relaxing boat ride aboard the Music City Queen. Enjoy views of the downtown skyline while dining and listening to live music. Walk to the outer decks and enjoy the night's breeze. Cruises depart from Riverfront Park on Thursdays and Fridays at 7 pm and 9:30 pm.
