New restaurant: Back Alley Diner!
217 Arcade Alley. 615-251-3003. This new diner is located in the alley that crosses the Arcade (connecting Church Street and Union Street). Menu features homemade soups and salads, specialty sandwiches, burgers, BBQ, Italian, and more. Hours are Mon - Fri, lunch from 10:30 am - 2:30 pm and happy hour from 4 pm - 7 pm. 

 

New coffee shop and bakery: Butter Cake Babe Coffee & Cafe!
Nashville Farmers' Market. 900 Rosa L. Parks Boulevard. 615-361-1685. This new coffee shop is located in the Market House at the Farmers' Market. Sweet treats for sale, as well. Hours are Tues - Sun, 8 am - 2 pm.

Author Talk and Book Signing: Meg Cabot

THURSDAY, JULY 7, 6:15 PM

Author of Overbite (July 2011). Cabot is the author of the beloved Princess Diaries series for teens. This new novel is aimed at adults and is the sequel to Insatiable. Reception, author talk, and book signing.


The Nashville Scene's Summer Concert Series

THURSDAY, JULY 7, 8 PM
LOCATION: HARD ROCK CAFE $5 IN ADVANCE; $10 AT THE DOOR

Celebrate Nashville as the hometown of living legends from all music genres with the Nashville Scene’s Sounds Like Summer concert series on Thursdays throughout the month of July. Performers on Thursday, July 7 include The Greenhornes and Turbo Fruits. Sounds Like Summer is a 21+ event.


Hot Nights at the Hall: Summer Concert Series

FRIDAY, JULY 8, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM

The Stealing Angels will perform in the museum's Curb Conservatory. Artists will sign their CDs in the Museum Store. Plus, access to the Museum's exhibition and gallery space after hours, food, and a cash bar. Free for CMHOF members. Non-Members: $40 individual membership fee or $100 friends and family membership fee includes entry to entire concert series and more. Additional concert in this series is scheduled for Friday, August 5.


Summer Festival: Tour-de-Force for Cello

FRIDAY, JULY 8 - SATURDAY, JULY 9, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $29 - $79

Performed in one continuous movement, Saint-Saëns’ First Cello Concerto places incredible demands on the soloist — and German cellist Alban Gerhardt is up to the challenge. Known for his intuitive musicianship, he will explore the full range of his instrument in this landmark piece. Osvaldo Golijov’s cinematic Sidereus takes an imaginative flight into the night skies, while Mendelssohn’s Third Symphony was inspired by the composer’s visit to an aging Scottish castle.


Nashville Ballet Performance

FRIDAY, JULY 8, 5:30 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE WITH PURCHASE OF GALLERY ADMISSION

To celebrate the opening of the exhibit Warhol Live: Music and Dance in Andy Warhol’s Work at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, the Nashville Ballet will perform a short ballet inspired by Warhol’s aesthetic and artistic style. The performance will be set to popular music from the same era as Warhol’s famous pop art and screen prints. Sit on the steps of the grand staircase or watch from the second floor as the Nashville Ballet takes over the gallery foyer in true Warhol style.


Nashville Predators Skate of the Union & Jersey Unveiling

WEDNESDAY, JULY 13, 10 AM - 9 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA FREE

The Predators annual "Skate of the Union" will feature an update on the latest hockey and business developments surrounding the team by President of Hockey Operations David Poile, Head Coach Barry Trotz and CEO Jeff Cogen at 6 pm. The group will also unveil the 2011-12 newly redesigned home jersey. In addition, a plaza party at 3 pm, locker room tours, and more. This free event will feature a used equipment sale and a variety of Pro Shop specials!

 

Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman: Bill Monroe 100th Birthday Celebration

THURSDAY, JULY 14, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: RYMAN AUDITORIUM $26.50

The Bill Monroe 100th Birthday Celebration includes performances by Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Bobby Osborne & the Rocky Top X-press and Sierra Hull. Additional concerts in this series include Dailey & Vincent on July 21 and Doc Watson on July 28. Also, before each show there will be free music outside of the Ryman from 6 pm - 7 pm as part of the Pickin' on the Plaza series.

 

Curator's Tour: Warhol Live

THURSDAY, JULY 14, NOON
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE WITH PURCHASE OF GALLERY ADMISSION

Join Mark Scala, chief curator at the Frist Center, for a tour of Warhol Live: Music and Dance in Andy Warhol's Work that illustrates the ways Andy Warhol used the medium of music to transform himself from fan to record album designer, producer, celebrity nightclubber, and rock star.
