New restaurant: Green Asia!
Nashville Farmers' Market. 900 Rosa L. Parks Blvd. 615-732-0839. Chinese and Japanese cuisine including sushi, vegetarian, and vegan options. Focused on offering healthy meals, Chef Jackie Liu will source most of his ingredients from the Farmers' Market. Hours are Monday - Sunday, 10:30 am - 3 pm.

New restaurant: AM@FM!
Nashville Farmers' Market. 900 Rosa L. Parks Blvd. Chef Arnold Myint's newest venture. The menu changes daily and includes salads, sandwiches, wraps, and baked in-house bread. Vegan and vegetarian options. Plus, many ingredients are sourced from the Farmers' Market. Hours are Monday - Thursday, 11 am - 3 pm and Friday - Sunday, 11 am - 6 pm.

The Nashville Scene's Summer Concert Series

THURSDAY, JULY 14, 8 PM
LOCATION: HARD ROCK CAFE $5 IN ADVANCE; $10 AT THE DOOR

Celebrate Nashville as the hometown of living legends from all music genres with the Nashville Scene’s Sounds Like Summer concert series on Thursdays throughout the month of July. Performers on Thursday, July 14 include Real Estate and Dent May. Sounds Like Summer is a 21+ event. Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door.


Wine Tasting

THURSDAY, JULY 14, 4 PM - 7 PM
LOCATION: METROPOLITAN WINES FREE

Sample a few of the stores favorite wines including a 2009 Silver Ridge Chardonnay, a 2008 Gryphus Gryphus Sauvignon Blanc, and a 2010 Cotton Wood Creek (red table wine). Wine tastings will continue every Thursday evening with different wines featured each week!


Cancer Birthday Bash for Cash 2011

FRIDAY, JULY 15, 7 PM
LOCATION: LISTENING ROOM CAFE $10 IN ADVANCE; $15 AT THE DOOR

Nashville's 1st Annual Cancer Birthday Bash for Cash 2011 benefiting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation! Shrimp boil and appetizers, silent auction, "Life's a Beach! Kiss a Crab!" photo ops, and signature drink specials. Cash bar with a percentage of the sales benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.


Night Market

FRIDAY, JULY 15, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET FREE

Shop "under the stars" at the Night Market! Enjoy shopping, wine from the cash bar, beverages from merchants, live music, free samples, and much more. Night Market will be held both inside the Market House and outside in the farm sheds, with all Market House restaurants and shops open including the market's newest additions: Green Asia, AM@FM, Louisiana Seafood Company and Butter Cake Babe Coffee Cafe.


Nashville Rollergirls vs. Minnesota All Stars

SATURDAY, JULY 16, 5:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM $10 - $15 ADULTS; $7 CHILDREN

The Burn City Rollers, from Auburn, AL, will face the Music City Brawl Stars in the first game of the night and the Minnesota All-Stars take on the Music City All Stars immediately following the first match. Special ticket price of only $7 at the door on gameday.


Egyptian Family Activity Day

SATURDAY, JULY 16, 1 PM - 4 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

Visitors will learn about the process of mummification through examination of a real mummy and will explore the lives of ancient Egyptians. Other activities include arts, crafts, hands-on activities, and food samples. Tutenstein cartoons will be shown. Visitors will be able to learn how to make Egyptian headdresses, necklaces, and bracelets; and learn how to write their name using hieroglyphics.

 

Soul Food Festival

SATURDAY, JULY 16, 4 PM
LOCATION: RIVERFRONT PARK $30 - $50

Performers include George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, The Barkays, Slave Band, SWV, Dru Hill, and the Dazz Band. Gates open at 4 pm, music starts at 6 pm. Soul food and beverages will be sold at the festival. PLEASE NOTE: Road closures associated with this event include 1st Avenue from Demonbreun to Church Street and Broadway from 1st to 2nd Avenue (on Saturday, July 16).


Free Frist Admission for Military Personnel

MONDAY, JULY 18
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts’ July 18 Senior Monday will honor all branches of the U.S. military by offering free admission to veterans, current service members, reservists, National Guard members and military retirees all day. Woody McMillin, author of In the Presence of Soldiers: The 2nd Army Maneuvers & Other World War II Activity in Tennessee, will be on hand to sign copies of his acclaimed book and display artifacts from his WW II collection.


Urban Residents Association's July Membership Meeting

MONDAY, JULY 18, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE DOWNTOWN PARTNERSHIP

Downtown residents are encouraged to attend the URA's bimonthly business meeting. Guest speakers include the two District 19 Metro Council Candidates, Erica Gilmore and Curt Wallen. They will share their plans for the future of downtown. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions of the candidates. Early voting begins this Friday and election day is Thursday, August 4.


Public Meeting: Flood Preparedness Plan

TUESDAY, JULY 19, 4 PM - 5:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

Nashville residents will have the opportunity to receive information about the city's "Unified Flood Preparedness Plan" being developed by Metro Water Services. A series of public meetings will be held over the next twelve months to gather input from the community including recommended projects to reduce damages from a future flood similar to the May 2010 floods. At this meeting, attendees will receive information about goals and objectives of the program, the planning process that has been established to identify, evaluate and select flood damage reduction solutions, and the communications plan that will be used to share information with and receive input from citizens.
