New dance studio: Nashville Ballroom!
817 2nd Avenue S. 615-828-8707. Nashville Ballroom specializes in classes for adult beginners and offers convenient online scheduling. Singles and couples are welcome. A grand opening party is scheduled for Saturday, September 10 from 7 pm to 11 pm. The grand opening is free and includes a group dance lesson, dance showcase, and social dance.

 

New massage studio: Bliss in BodyWorks!
700 Church Street #905. 615-810-9148. This new massage studio offers therapeutic bodywork and massage. Hours are Tues and Thurs, 6 pm - 8:30 pm; Sat, 10 am - 6 pm; and Sun, by appointment.

Live on the Green

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 6 PM - 10:30 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE PARK GENERAL ADMISSION: FREE AND VIP: $45

Enjoy live music outside in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse. This third annual concert series features local and national artists. The weather should be perfect for these events! Blankets, folding chairs, strollers, and water bottles are welcomed at this free six-week concert series.

9 pm - The Nashville Symphony with K.S. Rhoads

 

$3 parking available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage located directly below the park. Free bicycle parking.

 

VIP tickets available for $45 (or $210 for a season pass). Tickets include beer, soft drinks, water, food, and an incredible view of the stage.

Season Opening Celebration with Yo-Yo Ma

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 8 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $90 - $240

The ultimate pairing of soloist and composer: the incomparable Yo-Yo Ma will perform two lyrical pieces by DvoÅ™ák, who wrote some of the most beautiful music ever performed on the cello. This one-night-only concert will also feature complimentary champagne and dessert. Come for the music and stay for the festivities!


Over The Edge

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 9 AM - 4 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE CITY CENTER FREE FOR SPECTATORS

Locals will have a chance to rappel down the 27-story Nashville City Center building, a height of more than 400 feet. On-site festivities the day of the event include a DJ, food vendors, and informational tents. Rappelling begins at 9 am and will continue through 4 pm. This fundraiser supports Special Olympics Tennessee's year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than 16,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. If interested in rappelling, one must register here and raise at least $1,000 for Special Olympics Tennessee by September 9.

Awake, My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 7 PM
LOCATION: DOWNTOWN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH $5 SUGGESTED DONATION

A special screening of the documentary, Awake, My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp, which was narrated by Nashville singer/songwriter, Jim Lauderdale. Filmmakers Matt and Erica Hinton will attend the Nashville premiere of the film and lead a Q&A session. There will also be a live demonstration of Sacred Harp singing by many of the singers in the film.

 

Encore! 2011

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 7 PM
LOCATION: TPAC - TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER $15 - $35

TuneTown Show Chorus hosts this all-music review, featuring a night full of a cappella music. Special guests include comedy quartet Storm Front from Denver and the Melodores from Vanderbilt.

Tapping of Oktoberfest

Join Big River as they tap their famous fall brew, Oktoberfest. Samples of seasonal menu items (including Brew Master's Schnitzel, German mac 'n cheese, a wurst platter and more), door prizes and a raffle for Big River merchandise. Oktoberfest is a medium-bodied lager, amber in color with a toasted malt character.


Concerts in the Courtyard: Riders in the Sky

The library's hit music series continues with concerts in the courtyard! Bring your lunch and enjoy free music by top acts in many genres every Tuesday through October 11. Riders in the Sky perform on Tuesday, September 13.

 

New Faces in Philanthropy

Nashville-area young philanthropists under 40 will be honored at this event. The honorees are making significant contributions to their profession and community through their work and leadership in fund-raising. The three winners will be announced at this event and will be honored at the National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on November 10. Dinner on the Bridge

The 5th Annual Dinner on the Bridge is a fundraising event benefiting Greenways for Nashville. This seated dinner includes live music provided by the Nashville Jazz Workshop and catering by Kate's Fine Catering. The mission of Greenways for Nashville is to create, develop, protect, preserve and promote greenways systems in Nashville.
