Team Green October Mixer

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12, 6 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: ENCORE FREE

Join Team Green for their October Mixer at Encore Condominiums. Enter for chances to win prizes, such as VIP passes to the Live On the Green Halloween Finale on October 13 and tickets to Mat Kearney (Oct 20 at the Cannery Ballroom) and the Avett Brothers (Oct 28 at the Bridgestone Arena). Food and drinks will be available, as well as complimentary valet parking.


Opening Night: Nashville Predators vs. Phoenix Coyotes

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 7 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA $32 - $145

The Nashville Predators host the Phoenix Coyotes on opening night of the 2011-2012 season! The puck drops at 7 pm and festivities begin at 4 pm with a gold carpet event. Nashville Predators players, coaches and broadcasters will walk the gold carpet alongside select season ticketholders. A plaza party will follow the carpet walk and will feature live music, a drumline, snow blowers, concessions, inflatable games, photo opportunities, GNASH, the Preds dancers and more. In addition, all fans attending the game will receive a free opening night shirt courtesy of Nissan. Limited tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 615-770-PUCK or visiting the Bridgestone Arena box office.


Live on the Green

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 6 PM - 10 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE PARK GENERAL ADMISSION: FREE AND VIP: $45

Enjoy live music outside in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse. The weather should be perfect! Blankets, folding chairs, strollers, and water bottles are welcomed. This is the final show of this year's series.

9 pm - Here Come the Mummies

$3 parking available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage located directly below the park. Free bicycle parking. VIP tickets available for $45. Tickets include beer, soft drinks, water, food, and an incredible view of the stage.

 

Also, Lightning Lunch in the Public Square from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm on Thursday featuring the Labor of Love mobile food truck and free samples from Dr. Pepper.


Nashville Opera presents La Traviata

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 7 PM
LOCATION: TPAC - TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER $21.50 - $92.50

Giuseppe Verdi's glamorous and heartfelt portrait of a courtesan forced to give up the man of her dreams in this tale of love and selfless sacrifice. The score features poignant preludes, inspired ensembles, and marvelously crafted duets. Featuring the Nashville Symphony. La Traviata is the third most popular opera in the world. In addition to Thursday's performance, the Opera will perform La Traviata on Saturday.


Mary Steenburgen & Friends

A unique evening of stories and songs featuring Mary Steenburgen and friends. Steenburgen will perform with Shawn Camp, Kim Carnes, Trent Dabbs, Kat Danson, Barry Dean, Natalie Hemby, Audrey Dean Kelley, Luke Laird, and Lori McKenna. Cocktail reception at 6:30 pm and dinner at 7:30 pm. All proceeds benefit The Oxford American.


Carol Williams Organ Extravaganza

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14, 7:30 PM

Carol Williams, San Diego Civic Organist, presents her atypical organ extravaganza on the Lively-Fulcher pipe organ at Christ Church Cathedral as part of the Sacred Space for the City Arts Series. Carol's humorous personality and her keen appreciation of what people want to hear results in a well-rounded portrait of the concert organ. Williams performs music from the great classical composers, famous Hollywood and Broadway hits, and her own compositions.
 


Southern Festival of Books

LOCATION: WAR MEMORIAL PLAZA FREE

Now in its 23rd year, the Southern Festival of Books is a free, three-day celebration of the written word that provides book-loving guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with their favorite authors. Plus, food, a children’s stage, live music, a café stage, author readings, book signings and much more! Award-winning authors headlining the festival include Walter Mosley, Andrea Davis Pinkney, T.A. Barron, Chris Bohjalian, Pseudonymous Bosch, Charles Frazier, Tom Perrotta and Nashville’s own Ann Patchett. Click here for the full schedule of authors and activities. National Underground Grand Opening featuring Joey DeGraw

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 8 PM
LOCATION: NATIONAL UNDERGROUND FREE

The National Underground Nashville is the first off-shoot of the popular New York City club owned by artists and brothers Gavin and Joey DeGraw. The venue combines the best in local and national original roots, rock, and country music along with a full menu—including a burger that was named one of the best in New York City. The official Grand Opening celebration is this Saturday featuring performances by Hilary Williams, The Cold Stares, Joey DeGraw, and the Eric Jon Band.

 

Sinbad

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 8 PM

Actor and comedian Sinbad arrived on the comedy scene with a "hit 'em in the face" style of comedy that has kept audiences laughing over the past two decades. He freely admits that he doesn't know any jokes except for the ones his dad told him "back in the day." The basis of his humor comes from everyone he's met, everything he's seen, and everything he's done.


RLife LIVE Presents Matthew Mayfield

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 6 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: THE BRIDGE LOUNGE FREE

In 2008, Matthew Mayfield released his debut EP, The Fire. The launch sparked the release of seven additional EP's over the next two years. Mayfield will perform a free, intimate concert in the Renaissance Hotel's The Bridge Lounge.


Halloween in The Gulch

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 5 PM
LOCATION: VELOCITY IN THE GULCH REGISTRATION: $35 IN ADVANCE; $40 RACE DAY

The seventh annual Halloween in Tthe Gulch: 5K and 10K run and block party. Participants can run in their best costumes during this 5K/10K and have a chance to win top prizes for the best costume. After the finish line, enjoy Michelob Ultra beer, creepy cocktails, and Monster Energy Drinks. The block party is located at 600 11th Avenue South. Songwriters in the Park

LOCATION: CHURCH STREET PARK FREE

Friends of Church Street Park present Songwriters in the Park featuring live performances by local songwriters including Don Gallardo, Laura McGhee, Jabe Beyer, Dave Phenice, Golden State Refugees, Allen Thompson, Aaron Beavers, and Zach Broocke. Bring a picnic and blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the live music! Dogs are welcome, too.


1st Annual Big Wheel Championship Race

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16, NOON - 7 PM
LOCATION: HOOTERS FREE

Nashville's 1st Annual Big Wheel Championship will be held on Church Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues. The race will begin at 2 pm. Gates open at noon. Beer and food will be served. This event benefits Toys for Tots and attendees are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy for donation. Sponsored by Yazoo, Hooters, Beer Sellar, Riverfront Tavern and Central Parking.


Bombshell Beauty Bash

MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, 4 PM - 8 PM

Stars for Second Harvest: Craig Wiseman and Friends

Celebrity Chef Tour

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18, 7 PM
LOCATION: WATERMARK $140

The restaurant Nashville Scene readers voted as "Best Restaurant With a View" will soon be the best restaurant with a view of celebrity chefs. Watermark will host the first Nashville stop on the Celebrity Chef Tour. Chef Louis Osteen will host this event and will be joined by chefs Michael Sullivan, Alex Seidel, Donald Link and Bob Waggoner. The six-course meal will be matched with wine pairings.
