160 4th Avenue N. 615-291-4567. New restaurant serving lunch featuring lots of items from the grill including burgers and sandwiches. Plus, four daily soups, salads, wraps, pasta, baked potatoes, and more. Hours are Mon - Fri, 11 am to 3 pm.

 

New special event venue: Events on Third!
209 3rd Avenue N. 615-457-1133. A multi-floor and multi-space event venue that can accommodate up to 350 people.

Soup & Bread

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: YAZOO BREWING COMPANY AND TAP ROOM FREE

Local chefs, cooks, writers and musicians will lift the lid on pots of soup that they've created, served with fresh bread from Provence. Bring friends and family and stop by, have a bowl of soup, and some bread. Plus, Yazoo will sell beer by the glass. This event is a fundraiser for the Martha O'Bryan Center. 

 

Adult Studio Workshop: Exploring Encaustic Painting with Stefanie Gerber Darr

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8, 6 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS $50 MEMBERS; $75 NON-MEMBERS

Encaustic paintings use the ancient technique of combining melted beeswax, resin, and pigments to create a surface that can be built up to make textured layers. During this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to view an encaustic mummy portrait in the exhibition To Live Forever: Egyptian Treasures from the Brooklyn Museum, and then have fun using a simplified version of the medium themselves. Cost includes all supplies and gallery admission. Call 615-744-3355 to register.

 

Nashville @ Noon: Great Performances at DPC

The a cappella vocal group, Schola Pacis, will perform classical and seasonal choral favorites.


Nashville's Nutcracker

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9 - SUNDAY, DECEMBER 18, SHOW TIMES VARY BY DATE
LOCATION: TPAC - TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER $22.25 - $82

The Nashville Ballet presents the classic tale of Clara and her magical Nutcracker. Set in Nashville in 1897 during the Tennessee Centennial, this production brings exciting new visual elements to the Nashville rendition of the classic holiday tradition. The Nashville Symphony Orchestra will perform at every show.


Holiday Cookie Decorating

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 10:30 AM
LOCATION: COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM FREE

Children and adults of all ages are invited to decorate holiday cookies with guidance from the talented Two Twenty • Two Grill & Catering staff.

 

Keyboards at Christmas

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11, 6 PM
LOCATION: FIRST BAPTIST NASHVILLE FREE

Six grand pianos, 528 keys, 24 hands, The Sanctuary Choir, and some of First Baptist Nashville’s most talented instrumentalists will present "Keyboards at Christmas." All ages will delight at the sights and sounds of this festive musical evening to Christmas on a truly “grand” scale.


Holiday Concert: The Nashville Flute Choir

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

Founded in 2001 by director Karen Mitchell, the Nashville Flute Choir is a group of professional and amateur musicians. The choir is comprised of C flutes, piccolo, alto and various bass flutes. The ensemble performs around the city and provides an opportunity for the flutists to share their love of music with the community.


Annual Service of Lessons and Carols

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11, 11 AM - 12:15 PM
LOCATION: DOWNTOWN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH FREE

Dramatic readings of scripture. Plus, sing favorite carols with the adult and youth choirs.

 

A Tuba Christmas

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 11 AM, 12:30 PM
LOCATION: FIRST BAPTIST NASHVILLE FREE

A concert of Christmas carols featuring one hundred tubas. Tuba, sousaphone, euphonium and baritone horn players from across the nation play Christmas carols, first with instruments only and then with everyone singing along. Each performance is approximately 45 minutes in length. Parking is free in the church lots.


Champagne Guest Dance Party!

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 8 PM - 8:45 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE BALLROOM FREE

An introduction to social dancing at Nashville Ballroom's guest party! Instructors will introduce visitors to the world of dance with a mix of popular social dances including the Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba, Salsa, Swing and more! Be Cheap with BEEP!

During Bridgestone Arena events, park FREE at LP Field Lot R. Optional round-trip shuttle service is $3 per person with a convenient drop-off point near the arena. Click here for all of the details about this parking option. (TIP: You don't have to attend an arena event to use this service. However, the free parking is only available on the stated Bridgestone Arena event dates).

Large groups and events that are downtown December 7 - 21 include the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (775, December 2 - 7) and the National Baptist Convention of the USA/Sunday School Publishing Board (1,700, December 12 - 15).
