Nashville Symphony presents Handel’s Messiah

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15 - SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17, 7 PM ON THURSDAY, 8 PM ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $34 - $94

Messiah will sound grander than ever this year when the Nashville Symphony returns to the Schermerhorn to perform Handel’s inspiring masterpiece. In addition to the jubilant Hallelujah chorus, this larger-than-life work features moving solo performances and the art of text painting, in which the notes mimic the literal meaning of the words.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: TPAC - TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER $20

Join Nashville in Harmony for their holiday concert event "Fruitcake!" Enjoy the soaring harmonies of this chorus featuring over 85 men and women. Listen to a variety of musical selections including pop, classical, world music, jazz, and seasonal arrangements. Nashville in Harmony is a city chorus for GLBT people and their supporters.

 

It's a Popcorn Christmas

A southern-style Christmas Party with banjos playing, Christmas carols, giveaways, and Popcorn Sutton's moonshine - in holiday flavors!

 

Hooters' 2012 Calendar Signing

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16, 7 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: HOOTERS FREE

Hooters will host their annual calendar signing. Featured calendar girls from downtown Nashville, Chattanooga, and Murfreesboro will be in attendance. Calendars will be available for purchase onsite.


Jammin' at Hippie Jack's

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16, 7 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

Jammin’ at Hippie Jack’s Live at the Tennessee State Museum! is back. This free musical showcase and TV taping of the PBS series features acclaimed songwriters and performers Phil Lee and Verlon Thompson. Doors open at 7 pm and the performance begins at 7:30 pm.

 

Photos with Santa

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17, 3 PM - 5 PM
LOCATION: TWO OLD HIPPIES FREE

Santa will visit Two Old Hippies for free photos with children. He will give a stocking with toys to every child. There will be music, cookies and hot chocolate for the visitors. Bring your own camera if you want your child's picture with Santa.

 


 

A Pied Piper Holiday: Music Instrument Workshop

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17, 11 AM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $29

Take a magical trip to Santa’s workshop, where the elves are hard at work making musical instruments. This festive concert will offer young listeners a guided tour through the different instruments of the orchestra, using the music of Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa to highlight each one’s unique qualities.


Closing Reception: Veritas Numquam Perit: Works by Hunt Adams

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2 PM - 5 PM
LOCATION: STUDIO 66 FREE

Closing reception for Veritas Numquam Perit, a solo exhibit of oil paintings by Hunt Adams. This collection of deconstructed and abstracted figures reveals classical roots with manga and graffiti influences. The artist will be present to discuss his work.

 

Merry & Bright Holiday Trunk Show - hosted by Freshie & Zero

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 18, 1 PM - 6 PM
LOCATION: THE STAHLMAN BUILDING FREE

A showcase of many collections of handmade products - all under one roof! Shop jewelry by Freshie & Zero, artwork and accessories by Elizabeth Foster of Nashville, stitched creations by Ivey Handcrafted of Chattanooga, and natural body care by Rinse Bath and Body of Atlanta. Enjoy complimentary espresso beverages provided by Beve Mobile Coffee, along with homemade cookies and other tasty treats. Plus, door prizes, crafting tables and other surprises.
