New shop: Rocket Fizz!
201 2nd Avenue N. 615-730-8085. This soda pop and candy shop features a giant selection of novelty candy and soda. Hours are Mon - Wed, 10 am - 9 pm, Thurs, 10 am - 10 pm, Fri - Sat, 10 am - 11 pm, and Sun, 10 am - 9 pm.
 

New nightclub: HelanBack!
128 2nd Avenue N. 615-574-0475. This new nightlife option features two dance floors, DJs, pool tables, and a rooftop bar overlooking the Cumberland River. Hours are Wed - Sat, 8 pm - 2:30 am.
 

New nightclub: Honky Tonk Central!
329 Broadway. 615-726-0463. This honky tonk at the corner of 4th and Broadway features three floors of live music. Hours are Mon - Sun, 11 am - 3 am.

Two nights of entertainment featuring the Renaissance Nashville Hotel associates performing from a wide range of genres including country and pop. Drop in for a great show either or both nights.

 

May Class: Healthy Meal Planning on a Budget

THURSDAY, MAY 10, 6 PM - 7 PM
LOCATION: THE TURNIP TRUCK URBAN FARE FREE

The Turnip Truck's prepared foods manager, Molly Martin, will offer advice on how to shop locally and seasonally while staying within a budget. Attendees will receive a menu, shopping lists and recipes for a five-day dinner menu based on a $35 per person budget. Also, enjoy samples of prepared meals that feature local, organic, and seasonal ingredients from The Turnip Truck. Advanced registration is requested. All participants will receive a 10% discount on groceries purchased at the time of the class, as well as a $5 gift card toward grocery purchases during a return visit. This class will also be offered on Saturday, May 12 at 10 am.

Bonamassa has been lauded as one of the world's greatest guitarists and he is fast evolving into a full-blown truly charismatic and mesmerizing blues-rock star, as well as a singer-songwriter of stylistic depth and emotional resonance.

 

Run for the Homeless 5K

SATURDAY, MAY 12, 8 AM
LOCATION: HILTON PARK $15 - $30

The Run for the Homeless is a 5K run/walk. Runners and walkers, individuals, families, and teams are encouraged to participate. Southwest Airlines is sponsoring the four top prizes which are round-trip airline tickets to anywhere in the U.S. Registration is available the morning of the race and starts at 6:30 am. The race begins at 8 am. This event is a fundraiser for The Key Alliance. PLEASE NOTE: Road closures that impact downtown Nashville are Demonbreun from 4th Avenue to 12th Avenue. This stretch of Demonbreun will be closed from 7:45 am to noon on Saturday, May 12.

 

Mother's Day Weekend Biscuit Baking Class

Learn the art of classic Southern biscuit baking with local biscuit expert Maryann Byrd. She will teach you the recipes and tricks she has learned while documenting the best biscuit makers in the South in her film and book, The Biscuit Dive Guide. In celebration of Mother's Day, Maryann is teaching a wedding cake stacking technique, butter flowers, and tricks and techniques for mastering Southern biscuit making. Enjoy samples during class. James Slater "In My Daughter's Eyes" Mother's Day Show

Born in Durham, North Carolina to a mandoli- loving psychiatrist and a Spanish-speaking mother, he grew up in the tropics of the Panama Canal Zone. After circling the globe he now resides in Nashville. He has songs recorded by Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Lorrie Morgan, Mark Wills, and many others.
