New restaurant: Bella Nashville!
Nashville Farmers' Market, 900 Rosa L. Parks Blvd. 615-457-3863. This new pizza place combines local, regional, and homemade ingredients with traditional old world technique. Hours are Monday - Sunday, 11 am - 3 pm.

 

New nightclub: Silver Dollar Saloon!
110 2nd Avenue N. This new honky tonk on 2nd Avenue features live music every day of the week, a private event space, and a VIP lounge. Hours are Monday - Sunday, noon - 2:30 am.

 

New jewelry store: King Baby!
615 9th Avenue S. The Gulch's first jewelry store! Hours are Tuesday - Friday, 11 am - 6 pm and Saturday, noon - 5 pm.

Generous Helpings

LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET $40 IN ADVANCE; $50 AT-THE-DOOR

Second Harvest presents Generous Helpings, a food and wine tasting event. Enjoy tasting-size portions of signature appetizers, entrees, and desserts from over 45 local restaurants and fine wine and beer from participating beverage distributors. This year's event at the Nashville Farmers’ Market brings together local farmers and local restaurants. A fundraiser for Middle Tennessee's Table, Middle Tennessee's prepared and perishable food rescue program.


Goodguys 7th Nashville Nationals Giant Car Show

FRIDAY, MAY 18 - SUNDAY, MAY 20, FRI & SAT: 8 AM - 5 PM; SUN 8 AM - 3 PM
LOCATION: LP FIELD $18, $6 (AGES 7 - 12), FREE (6 AND UNDER)

This year's show is bigger and better than ever and showcases over 1,500 candy-colored '72 and earlier hot rods, custom cars, muscle cars, trucks, and classics. Plus, vendor and sponsor exhibits, swap meet, cars for sale corral, the Goodguys AutoCross, live music and more! A new event on Sunday, May 20 is the Super Sunday Get-Together where all years of American made or powered cars are welcome. Click here to save $3. National Bike to Work Day

FRIDAY, MAY 18, 8 AM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

Bikers across Nashville will commute to downtown and meet at Public Square for free breakfast and coffee. No registration, just show up. Mayor Karl Dean will bike into this event and will speak to the crowd. Use the interactive map of meeting points and times to bike in with others. Everyone is encouraged to use alternative transportation to get to work on Friday!


Opening Reception: Imagination and Collaboration: A Boys and Girls Club

FRIDAY, MAY 18, 3:30 PM - 5 PM
LOCATION: METROPOLITAN NASHVILLE ARTS COMMISSION

Opening reception for Imagination and Collaboration. This exhibit by 2nd graders from Lockeland Design Center and guest teaching artist Lindsey Bailey features a collaborative installation combining themes of safe place and shelter with art making. Light refreshments will be served. Exhibit on display through August 3, 2012.


Art Museum Day 2012: Free Admission

FRIDAY, MAY 18, 10 AM - 9 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

Enjoy free admission to the Frist Center all day on Friday, May 18 as part of the Association of Art Museum Directors' Art Museum Day and International Museum Day. Plus, admission is free for active duty military and veterans and their families on Saturday, May 19 for Armed Forces Day (10 am - 5:30 pm).


Ellie's Run for Africa

SATURDAY, MAY 19, 7:30 AM
LOCATION: RIVERFRONT PARK INDIVIDUALS $25; COUPLES $40; FAMILIES $60

Ellie's Run for Africa 5K and family fun day is this Saturday. A 5K and cultural performances and activities for kids. Plus, games, prizes, and food. This event raises money for schools in Kenya. Free parking available. Registration opens at 6:30 am, 5K starts at 7:30 am, and the kids' fun run begins at 8:30 am. NOTE: Road closures along Demonbreun, Broadway, 1st and 2nd Avenues associated with this race. Expect rolling road closures between 5:30 am and noon on Saturday, May 19.


Fight for Air Walk

SATURDAY, MAY 19, REGISTRATION BEGINS AT 8:30 AM; WALK BEGINS AT 10 AM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE

Fight for Air Walk gives you the power to improve the air we breathe. Walk for a child with asthma, to cure lung disease, or to protect your family from air pollution and secondhand smoke. This event helps raise funds for programs, advocacy, and much needed research. Post-walk celebration begins at 11 am and features live music, a KidZone, and food. Start and finish line in Public Square Park. There will be two walk options: a traditional 5K and a shorter fun walk. NOTE: roads will not close for this walk, although certain intersections will be closed temporarily when walkers pass through. The rolling intersection closures begin at 10 am and end at 11 am.


Walk Me Home 5K

SATURDAY, MAY 19, 9 AM
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL

The Tennessee Foster Adoptive Care Association's 5th Annual Walk Me Home 5K. Enjoy this walk in the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. Performances by Emmylou Harris and local celebrity Jaime Fox. No road closures are associated with this event, the 5K route will be entirely in the interior of the park.
