The Nutty Professor Musical

The world premiere of The Nutty Professor, a new musical comedy directed by Jerry Lewis! Featuring music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Rupert Holmes. The Nutty Professor is a musical treat for the whole family. A story about geeky chemistry professor Julius Kelp, who concocts a formula to turn himself into the ultimate heartthrob. When the woman he loves falls for his alter ego, will Julius find the courage to win her back from his new self? Be among the first to see this hilarious new musical before it heads to Broadway.
 

Avenue Q

LOCATION: NASHVILLE CHILDREN'S THEATRE $10

Avenue Q is a laugh-out-loud musical telling the story of a recent college graduate named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York City apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it's clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. This energetic musical will be performed by the students in the theatre's Emerging Artists program. This production is rated PG-13 for language and mature content. Music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, and based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx.


Frist Friday featuring Band of Heathens

FRIDAY, JULY 27, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS $10

Now in its tenth year, this popular summer concert series takes place on the last Friday of the month from May to August! The Austin-based Band of Heathens will perform in the courtyard. Light appetizers are provided and there is a cash bar. No admission charge for members, and non-members pay $10. Admission includes entrance to current exhibits.


Panel Discussion: Managing Landscapes

FRIDAY, JULY 27, NOON
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

This panel discussion brings together conservation specialists from Tennessee and the Stour River valley in England to explore the importance of preserving landscapes. How does one choose what to protect? What does it take to manage and sustain a landscape or river system? What are the similarities and differences in the way in which England has conserved Constable Country and how we conserve in Tennessee? Panelists include Leigh Ann Baird, Gina Hancock, Simon Peachey, and Dave Piper. Moderated by Jim Schorr.

 

11th Annual Music City Brewer's Festival

SATURDAY, JULY 28, NOON - 4 PM
LOCATION: HILTON PARK $35

Brewers from around the country call the Music City Brewer's Festival one of the best festivals they participate in all year! Sample beer from over 50 local, regional and national breweries. Live music by the San Rafael Band and the Dirk Quinn Band. Food from area restaurants will be available for purchase. A new feature of this year's festival is the "Beer Garb" Costume Contest. Check out the entry information on this website. This festival has two sessions. The only session with tickets remaining is shift A: noon - 4 pm.

 

Gluten-Free Baking Class

SUNDAY, JULY 29, 6 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET $25

Watermark Pastry Chef, Sam Tucker, will lead this gluten-free baking class at the Grow Local Kitchen. Recipes include seasonal sweetbreads and sponge cake. After almost two decades of being a professional baker, Sam's wife and young son were both diagnosed with celiac disease. Sam spent the next few years studying bread, glutens, proteins and gluten-free alternatives. He will share how to make yummy gluten-free sweetbreads and tons of what he knows about living deliciously and healthfully with celiac disease. Registration is required.


B-Cycle Demonstration

TUESDAY, JULY 31, 11 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE B-CYLE DEMONSTRATIONS: FREE

Mayor Karl Dean will participate in a demonstration of Nashville’s new bike share program, Nashville B-cycle. This demonstration will give members of the public the chance to test ride a B-cycle and learn more about the automated kiosk system. The city is expanding its bike-share system to include 200 bikes available at 20 automated kiosks throughout the urban core. This will be a fee-based system designed for short trips. Complement your lunch hour on Tuesday with lunch from Puckett's Trolley. This food truck will be on site from 11 am - 1 pm.

Football Commuter Options

If you are a season ticketholder for games at LP Filed, there are a number of great parking and commuter options. Parking is only $10 in the Metro Courthouse Garage located just across the Woodland Street Bridge with this parking package. Pre-season games are included in the package. Also, our interactive downtown parking map provides information about game-day rates, and the Music City Star is an option.

 

Modeling Opportunity

The Nashville Downtown Partnership needs "models" to pose in photos on Friday, August 3. You do not have to be a professional model. We are seeking people who enjoy having their photo taken. This is a volunteer opportunity and is unpaid. If you are available on Friday, August 3 and would like to participate, please email Andrea. Time slots and details about the day will be sent to you.
