Events This Week

LST 325 WWII Ship Tours

THROUGH MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 9 AM - 5 PM
LOCATION: RIVERFRONT PARK $10, $5 AGES 6-17, FREE: UNDER 6, ACTIVE MILITARY

Take a tour of LST 325, a WWII landship. The ship, called the Gray Lady by crew members, is 328 feet long, 50 feet wide and 65 feet high to the top of its mast. It was built in Philadelphia by the U.S. Navy at a cost of $1.4 million and launched in October 1942. As a combat veteran, the LST 325 made more than 40 trips from England to Normandy during WWII. The ship's wartime crew consisted of 100 enlisted men and ten officers. Cost to tour: $10 adults; $5 for ages 6-17; and free for ages 5 and under, guests with handicaps, and active military in uniform. Family passes for two adults and two children are available for $20.


RAW Nashville: ENSEMBLE

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 8 PM - MIDNIGHT
LOCATION: MERCY LOUNGE $10 IN ADVANCE; $15 AT THE DOOR

RAW: natural born artists is an independent arts organization that hand-selects and spotlights independent creatives in visual art, film, fashion, music, hair & makeup artistry, photography, models and performing art. Over twenty local artists will display their work at this multi-faceted artistic showcase.


Live on the Green: North Mississippi Allstars

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 6 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE GENERAL ADMISSION: FREE; VIP: $45

Enjoy live music outside in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse. Blankets, folding chairs, strollers, and water bottles are welcomed at this free six-week concert series. The line-up for Thursday, September 20 includes Billy Swayze, Roots of a Rebellion, Missing Cats featuring John 'Jojo' Hermann & Sherman Ewing, and the North Mississippi Allstars. $3 parking available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage located directly below the park. Free bicycle parking. VIP tickets available for $45. Tickets include beer, wine, soft drinks, water, food, and an incredible view of the stage.


Park(ing) Day

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

Over fifteen metered on-street parking spots across downtown will become temporary "park" installations all day on Friday. Check out these spots on foot, bicycle or your preferred mode of transportation. The parking spots will feature a wide variety of activities and installations ... ranging from a sculpture garden to apple bobbing to yoga and more!
 

Lunchtime Social Dance Classes

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 11:30 AM, NOON AND 12:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE BALLROOM $7/CLASS OR 3 CLASSES FOR $15

Learn ballroom and nightclub dance basics during your lunch break! A variety of dance steps, technique and styling will be covered in each class. Group classes range from beginner to advanced and are offered in all forms of partner dance. Select the time you attend class based on your experience level: 11:30 am (novice), noon (intermediate) and 12:30 (intermediate/advanced). No partner necessary as partners are rotated throughout the lesson. Also, mark your calendar for Friday, September 28. The studio will offer lunchtime dance classes at 11:30 am (novice), noon (intermediate) and 12:30 (intermediate/advanced) on that Friday, too. Tip: Take the Music City Circuit (purple line) to Nashville Ballroom for these classes offered during the lunch hour.


Southern Ground Music & Food Festival

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22

Zac Brown Band's Southern Ground Music & Food Festival comes to Nashville for the first time with a two-day festival at The Lawn at Riverfront Park. The Zac Brown Band will perform both nights with additional performances by The Lumineers, David Gray, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Amos Lee, and many more! Concessions will be available from Cookie, Zac Brown Band's mobile kitchen and local food trucks. Upgrade your tickets to VIP for $99/ticket and get access to a backstage VIP hospitality area; comfortable shaded lounge area; complimentary wine, beer, cocktails soft drinks, and water; dinner buffet and snacks; yard games; private VIP restrooms and more. September Night Market

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET FREE

Enjoy shopping, wine from the cash bar, live music, artisan booths, kids' activities, and much more at this monthly event. Most Market House restaurants and shops will be open. Vendors in the farm sheds will sell local produce, meat, cheese, plants, and more! The flea market side features local food trucks, beer and wine, and merchants. Live music by The Flea Marketeers, Wild Animal and Mississippi Millie. Kids' activities include stories, songs, and crafts organized by the Nashville Public Library.

 

Women's Half Marathon

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 7 AM
LOCATION: COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM HALF MARATHON: $100; 5K: $40

This third annual Women's Half Marathon starts and finishes in front of the Country Music Hall of Fame, and tours the best of Nashville throughout the race. The weekend begins with a two-day Health and Fitness Expo (Thursday, September 20 - Friday, September 21) at the Nashville Convention Center. The expo is open to the public and features women-specific apparel, merchandise, and book signings by running celebrities. Plus, packet pick-up for registered runners including race number, timing tag and a goodie bag. Registration for the half marathon and 5K is available during the expo but is not an option on race day. NOTE: Road closures are associated with this event!


Rise 'n Shine Biscuit Baking Class

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 8:30 AM - 10 AM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET $35

Learn the art of classic Southern biscuit baking with biscuit expert Maryann Byrd. She will teach you the recipes and tricks she has learned while documenting the best biscuit makers in the South in her film and book, The Biscuit Dive Guide. The Travelin' McCourys & Friends

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 4:30 PM - 6 PM

Help kick off IBMA's World of Bluegrass Week (September 24 - 30) with a free concert in Cumberland Park. The Travelin' McCourys & Friends will perform immediately after the Lions vs. Titans game at LP Field.


Concerts in the Courtyard: The SteelDrivers

The library's hit music series continues. Bring a lunch to the library courtyard and enjoy free music by top acts in many genres every Tuesday through October 9. The SteelDrivers, a local Bluegrass band, will perform on Tuesday, September 25.
