New restaurant: Salsa!
818 Palmer Place. 615-401-9316. This new Puerto Rican restaurant is located near Cummins Station, the Cannery Ballroom and Mercy Lounge. Hours of operation are Monday - Thursday, 11 am - 9 pm and Friday - Saturday, 11 am - 11 pm.
 

New massage option: The Body Geek!
1000 Church Street. 615-577-5400. This new massage option is located inside the Downtown YMCA. Appointments can be made during the Y's hours which are Monday - Friday, 5 am - 9 pm; Saturday, 7 am - 5 pm; and Sunday, 1 pm - 5 pm.

Monster Jam

FRIDAY, JANUARY 4 - SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA $25 - $50

Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam features the biggest performers on four wheels: Monster Jam trucks. These machines will race and rip up a custom-designed track full of obstacles to soar over or smash through.


The Disposables

SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: DOWNTOWN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH FREE; SUGGESTED DONATION OF $5 AT THE DOOR

An evening event supporting The Contributor, Nashville's street newspaper. There will be food, vendor awards, live music and photography from homeless and formerly homeless newspaper vendors. Photography will be for sale and will benefit the newspaper and the vendor. Donations for The Contributor will also be accepted. This event coincides with the First Saturday Art Crawl as the church is one block away from the majority of the art galleries.

Art galleries throughout downtown host receptions and art openings every month. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. Free shuttles provide transportation among the galleries from 6 pm to 10 pm (galleries close at 9 pm). See this month's shuttle map and gallery listing. Participating galleries include:

Shakespeare Allowed

SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, NOON - 3 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

This Nashville Shakespeare Festival event allows all attendees to read A Midsummer Night's Dream out loud in a reading circle.


2013 Nashville Boat & Sportshow

THURSDAY, JANUARY 10 - SUNDAY, JANUARY 13, SHOW TIMES VARY BY DATE
LOCATION: NASHVILLE CONVENTION CENTER $9; AGES 15 AND UNDER: FREE

The four-day event showcases hundreds of the latest boats from the region’s top dealers, plus a wide selection of marine accessories and electronics, in addition to fun activities for the whole family. For the first time, show goers can get on the water and experience the fun of kayaking and the latest fitness trend, Stand Up Paddling, at the new Paddle Sports Demo and Try-It Pool. Plus, seminars by national fishing and boating experts.
