Nashville Originals' Restaurant Week

THROUGH SUNDAY, JANUARY 20

A semiannual event sponsored by Nashville Originals, Restaurant Week is a great way to enjoy Nashville's unique local dining establishments. Participating downtown restaurants are 417 Union, Copper Kettle, Flyte World Dining and Wine, Provence Breads & Cafe, Puckett's Gro. & Restaurant, and Watermark. These restaurants will feature special prices and menus throughout the week and across the mealtimes.


Texaco Country Showdown

THURSDAY, JANUARY 17, 7 PM
LOCATION: RYMAN AUDITORIUM FREE

Singer and songwriter, Jewel will host and perform at the 31st Annual National Final. Five national finalists each representing a sponsoring radio station will compete for $100,000 and the title of Best New Act in Country Music. The year-long competition begins each spring with over 450 live shows produced by country radio stations across the country. Nashville's largest RV event of the year with motorhomes, fifth wheels, toy haulers, van conversions, pop-ups and luxury motorhomes.
 

Jammin' at Hippie Jack's

FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, DOORS AT 7 PM; CONCERT AT 7:30 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE; SEATING IS FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED

Jammin’ at Hippie Jack’s Live at the Tennessee State Museum! is back for the new year. The public is invited to attend this free, musical showcase and TV taping on Friday evening, featuring acclaimed songwriters Rod Picott and Kim Richey. The live concerts are aired as taped broadcasts from the museum's Buffalo Bill Stage, providing viewers with an opportunity to explore and understand the cultural connections between Americana music and its historical roots. Doors open at 7 pm and the performance begins at 7:30 pm.


Nashville Day of Service: Volunteering a Little Means a Lot

SATURDAY, JANUARY 19, 10 AM - NOON
LOCATION: CENTER FOR NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT FREE

Did you make a New Year's Resolution to give back to your community or do you want to learn about opportunities for volunteering in Nashville? Whether you can do a little or a lot, attend this unique event that is being held in conjunction with the National Day of Service. Check out the volunteer fair to learn who needs help and how you can serve others in Nashville. Chat with representatives from some of Nashville's leading non-profit agencies to learn how to use your strengths to benefit others.


 

Robert Burns Day

SATURDAY, JANUARY 19, 2 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: JACKALOPE BREWING COMPANY FREE

Robert Burns Day is an annual celebration in Scotland and the brewing company will offer their own version of this celebration. Festivities include beer on tap and the "Highland Games." Games include a putting contest, a drawing contest, poetry reading, a wall-sit (while holding an empty quarter barrel keg), and a dance contest. Teams must sign up in advance and should consist of three to five members. Food will be available for purchase from the Biscuit Love Truck. Plaid attire is encouraged.


Community Cinema: Soul Food Junkies

SATURDAY, JANUARY 19, 2:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

Food traditions are hard to change, especially when they are passed on from generation to generation. Baffled by his dad’s unwillingness to change his traditional soul food diet in the face of a health crisis, filmmaker Byron Hurt sets out to learn more about this rich culinary tradition and its relevance to black cultural identity. The film will be shown at 3 pm. Discussion to follow with Alice Randall, author of The Wind Done Gone and Ada's Rules; Dawn Freeman, certified health and nutrition coach; and Carol Batey, owner of Good Vibrations Cooking. Reception features a healthy soul food tasting from Zawadi Feasts Catering. Seating is first come, first served.


Nashville Predators vs. St. Louis Blues

MONDAY, JANUARY 21, 5 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA $27 - $325

The Nashville Predators' opening weekend continues on Monday, January 21, with a special 5 pm start time against the St. Louis Blues. Spend part of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at the arena! All fans in attendance will receive a magnetic schedule, half-price draft beer and soda all game long, and $1 hot dogs. Monday is also a Hometown Heroes Night where all educators, police officers, firefighters, nurses, EMTs and Military personnel receive a $20 discount off all lower bowl seating and $10 off upper level seating (with proof of profession at the Bridgestone Arena box office). Tickets are available for this game. Opening night, Saturday, January 19 is sold out.

Attention: Downtown Merchants

Large convention in town Saturday, January 19 - Sunday, January 20: Momentum! All events held at the Municipal Auditorium. The group breaks for lunch from 1:18 pm to 2:50 pm on Saturday and from 1 pm to 2:45 pm on Sunday. The meetings end at 6:10 pm each night. Expect large crowds at restaurants and other venues during these times!

Be Cheap with BEEP!

During Bridgestone Arena and Nashville Symphony events, park FREE at LP Field Lot R. Optional round-trip shuttle service is $3 per person with a convenient drop-off point near the arena and the Schermerhorn. Click here for all of the details about this parking option. Now that the Predators are back on the ice, there are even more event nights for this program! (TIP: You don't have to attend an event at either venue to use this service. However, the free parking is only available on the stated event dates).
