New retailer: Wild & Local!
Nashville Farmers' Market. 900 Rosa L. Parks Boulevard. 877-513-6784. Fresh, wild-caught, and sustainably-sourced seafood and local farm meats from within 100 miles of Nashville. Plus, specialty local grocery items. This weekend, crawfish for sale. Call the shop to place an order. Hours of operation are Mon - Thurs, 10 am - 6 pm; Fri, 10 am - 8 pm; and Sat - Sun, 8 am - 6 pm.
 

Re-open: Listening Room Cafe!
217 2nd Avenue South. 803-466-0830. The Listening Room Cafe is now located in SoBro on 2nd Avenue South. Open for lunch and dinner with live music at night. Hours of operation are Mon - Sat, 11 am - 11 pm.
 

New restaurant: Mac's!
719 8th Avenue South. 615-730-9877. This new diner serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Menu items include meat pies, chicken wings, burgers, chicken and waffles and more. Hours of operation are Tues - Thurs, 10 am - 10 pm. Fri - Sat, 10 am - 10 pm, plus also open from midnight to 5 am.

Bob Newhart

THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, 7 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $44 - $99

A comedy legend! The star of two hit TV shows, fourteen films and a string of successful albums, Bob Newhart remains one of the funniest men in America. He will perform classic routines such as "The Driving Instructor," "Sir Walter Raleigh" and "The Submarine Commander." Annie Sellick and the Nashville Jazz Orchestra will open the show. Symphony-goers, did you know you can park cheap on symphony nights with Best Ever Event Parking?

 

National DJ Competition

THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, 9 PM
LOCATION: 12TH & PORTER FREE

A few of Music City’s best DJs including Kidsmeal, DJ Rate, DJ Orig, DJ Crumbz, and DJ Choseen will begin stage one of the battle for the title of Red Bull Thre3style national champion. Red Bull Thre3style is an innovative concept that gives highly skilled DJs a global platform to showcase their skills and gain notoriety. Competing DJs are given fifteen minutes and must play three different genres of music. A panel of music industry judges will select the winners based on track selection, creativity, mixing skills, stage presence and crowd reaction.
 

Southern Living South-Wide Happy Hour

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 5 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: OAK BAR AT THE HERMITAGE HOTEL

The Oak Bar has been named the #1 hotel bar in the South and is a featured bar for Southern Living's South-Wide Happy Hour. Tennessee Champagne (Jack Daniel's Single Barrel, Dr. Enuf, and sorghum) will be available for $6 all night and special half off prices on the bar snack menu until 6:30 pm.


Artist's Perspective: Working Between Worlds

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 6:30 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

Artist Camille Utterback, the artist behind the Tracing Time/Marking Movement exhibition, discusses the creation and evolution of her interactive installations and other computer-generated works. She explores how the creation of her works — which rely on cameras and computer code — is similar to and different from traditional painting. She will also discuss how she became interested in computational systems to construct her pieces.


Nashville Safari Comedy Improv Show

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 8 PM - 9:30 PM
LOCATION: THE FILMING STATION $10

A cutting edge improv and sketch comedy show, Nashville Safari, explores all things Nashville ... from songwriting and honky-tonks, to universities and neighborhoods. The show is based on audience suggestions and features open scene improv, mixed in with short games as seen on such popular shows as "Whose Line Is It Anyway."


First Saturday Art Crawl

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 6 PM - 9 PM

Art galleries throughout downtown host receptions and art openings every month. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. Don't Tell Me I Can't Fly

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE CHILDREN'S THEATRE $12 - $19

This regional premiere is an engaging and humorous look at family life inspired by the life and work of collage artist Della Wells. The main character, Tonia, is an artistic 9 year-old with fantastic dreams of a giant future. Tonia's mom wants her to be like a doll, perfectly mannered and always the same size. Tonia's dad wants her to blend into the crowd.

 

A Super Bowl to Remember

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 3 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: WILDHORSE SALOON $20 IN ADVANCE; $30 AT THE DOOR

Watch the Super Bowl on Tennessee's largest video screen (20' x 30'). Complimentary light appetizers and drink specials and a few surprise celebrity visits. After the game, enjoy dancing to music provided by a DJ. This event benefits the Make A Wish Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Attend and help grant wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Children ages 16 and under attend free with a paying adult.

Guidebooks Are Available

The current edition of The Guidebook, our downtown retail, restaurant and amenity resource book, is available. Copies are available at most downtown hotels, restaurants, retailers, the Urban Market, the Visitor Information Center in the Bridgestone Arena, Arcade shops and restaurants, Lower Broadway bars, restaurants and stores, and many other locations! It is a great resource for large groups, conventions, and new downtown employees and residents.
