Nashville Ballet's Romeo & Juliet

FRIDAY, APRIL 26 - SUNDAY, APRIL 28, SHOW TIMES VARY BY DATE
LOCATION: TPAC - TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER $22.25 - $82

Described by The Tennessean as "enthralling" when it debuted in 2004, Paul Vasterling's Romeo & Juliet tells the dramatic tale of these two star-crossed lovers. Physical choreography, action-packed fight scenes and theatrical performances explore love, revenge, fate and the power of passion - for good and bad - in this familiar tale. Grand production elements and period costumes set the stage in "fair Verona" where Shakespeare's poetry is translated into dance.


Country Music Marathon

SATURDAY, APRIL 27

The St. Jude Country Music Marathon & 1/2 Marathon presented by Nissan runs through Nashville on Saturday, April 27. Featuring local bands playing live on 28 entertainment stages and a fantastic finish line festival. Find a spot downtown to cheer on the runners! Or, sign up for the 2.6 mile mini marathon. A post-race concert with Craig Morgan and Sarah Darling at 7 pm at Municipal Auditorium. Tickets are still available. Plus, the ING Kids Rock run at LP Field on Sunday at 2 pm and the Health and Fitness Expo on Thursday and Friday. PLEASE NOTE - ROAD CLOSURES associated with the marathon and related events! Over 30,000 runners and walkers will participate in this marathon.

 

Street Party: Songs from St. Somewhere

SATURDAY, APRIL 27, 11 AM - 8 PM
LOCATION: JIMMY BUFFETT'S MARGARITAVILLE NASHVILLE FREE

Celebrate Jimmy Buffett's concert at the Bridgestone Arena at this day-long street party. Enjoy live music by Bush Hawg, Mishka, and Band from Nowhere. Burgers, brats, BBQ, beer and margaritas for sale. Plus, cornhole, stilt walkers, interactive entertainment and other free activities. Proceeds will benefit the W.O. Smith Music SchoolPLEASE NOTE - ROAD CLOSURES! Broadway between 3rd and 4th Avenues will be blocked off for this event from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm on Saturday, April 27.

 

Festa di Santa Caterina da Siena

LOCATION: ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH $10 PRESALE; $12 AT THE DOOR

An authentic Italian celebration! Catholic Mass at 5 pm with prayers in English and hymns in Italian. Or, come for the party afterward at 6 pm. Enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of Italy. Homemade pasta with red, white and green (pesto) sauce. BYOWine. Sing-a-long with classic Italian and Italian-American music. Plus, presentations and group dance of pizzica and taranta. End the evening with tiramisu and espresso.

 

Jazz on the Move: Music of Wes Montgomery with Geary Moore

SUNDAY, APRIL 28, 3 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

Wes Montgomery is considered one of the greatest jazz guitarists of all time, and an influence on most modern jazz guitarists. A mainstay of the Indianapolis jazz scene, he spent his formative years playing in the hard-driving style for which that city is known. Pittsburgh native Geary Moore enjoyed a long career in the New York City area before moving to Nashville several years ago. Seating is first come, first seated. Those attending Jazz on the Move will be able to view the Frist's exhibitions free of charge and will also receive discounted parking.


National Dance Week

MONDAY, APRIL 29 - SUNDAY, MAY 5, 7:15 PM
LOCATION: AVENUE 2 BALLROOM $15 SINGLE; $20 COUPLE

Avenue 2 will host dance opportunities for beginners to advanced dancers in celebration of National Dance Week. Group dance classes are open to the public and begin at 7:15 pm Monday through Thursday. Saturday's class is at 12:15 pm. No partner is necessary to join the fun.

 

National Day of Prayer Breakfast

THURSDAY, MAY 2, 6:30 AM - 7:45 AM
LOCATION: RENAISSANCE NASHVILLE HOTEL $25 PER SEAT; $250 PER TABLE (10 SEATS)

The keynote speaker for this year's National Day of Prayer Breakfast is Dr. Frank Page, president and CEO of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee. Plus, enjoy a performance by Point of Grace and special guest Carol Swain, professor of law and political science at Vanderbilt University. Complimentary parking at First Baptist's Lot D with complimentary shuttle service to the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. Register online.

 

National Day of Prayer

THURSDAY, MAY 2, NOON - 1 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA

Prayers will be led by community, business, church, YMCA and civic leaders in the arena's plaza. Music and program will be led by Mosaic.


The Chris and Tami Show

THURSDAY, MAY 2, 8:30 PM - 9:45 PM
LOCATION: THE FILMING STATION $10

An improv show featuring Chris Trew and Tami Nelson. Trew and Nelson are the founders of The New Movement theater which has locations in New Orleans and Austin. Nashville's Sprocket Improv group will also perform.

Marathon Road Closures

PLEASE NOTE - many road closures this Saturday, April 27 for the St. Jude Country Music Marathon and 1/2 Marathon. This website features a course map and road closure grid to help you navigate downtown. Additional road closures on Saturday, April 27 will be in place for Margaritaville's Street Party.
