New restaurant: Husk!
37 Rutledge Street. This new restaurant in Rutledge Hill features a menu that changes daily. The kitchen is led by James Beard award-winning Chef Sean Brock and Chef de Cuisine Morgan McGlone. Brunch is available on the weekends. Hours of operation are Mon - Thurs, 11:30 am - 2:30 pm, 5:30 pm - 10:30 pm; Fri, 11:30 am - 2:30 pm, 5:30 pm - 11 pm; Sat, 10 am - 2:30 pm, 5:30 pm - 11 pm; and Sun, 10 am - 2:30 pm, 5:30 pm - 10 pm.
 

New restaurant: Peg Leg Porker!
903 Gleaves Street. 615-829-6023. This new barbecue restaurant in The Gulch features smoked meats and additional menu items prepared by competition pitmaster Carey Bringle. Hours of operation are Mon - Sat, 11 am - 10 pm.
 

New hours of operation: The Listening Room Cafe!
217 2nd Avenue South. 615-259-3600. The cafe recently opened for Saturday brunch featuring mimosas and doses. The cafe also offers weekday lunch. Hours of operation are now Mon - Sat, 11 am - 11 pm. Enjoy live music at dinnertime.

Gulch Cares

THURSDAY, MAY 30

Retailers and restaurants in The Gulch are donating a portion of their sales to the United Way's Disaster Relief Fund as a benefit for the tornado victims of Oklahoma. Click here to see a list of the participating merchants.


Grand Opening: The Johnny Cash Museum

THURSDAY, MAY 30, 11 AM - 8 PM
LOCATION: THE JOHNNY CASH MUSEUM GENERAL ADMISSION: $14

The Johnny Cash Museum is a celebration and collection of Cash's historical documents, letters, awards, costumes, instruments, and more. The museum will celebrate its Grand Opening with a day full of prizes, limited edition Hatch Show Print posters, and other free gifts to fans and patrons. Admission will be charged for this event.


Corks & Canvas

FRIDAY, MAY 31, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE CITY CLUB $35

Paint a personal masterpiece with the guidance of an instructor. Also, enjoy two glasses of wine during this painting class. Take your masterpiece home with you at the end of the night. Register for this event by calling 615-620-1329.


Music City Sports Festival

FRIDAY, MAY 31 - SATURDAY, JUNE 1, FRIDAY: 3 PM - 8 PM, SATURDAY: 7:30 AM - 4 PM
LOCATION: MUSIC CITY CENTER $5

This two-day event features keynote speakers including Chipper Jones, James Franklin and Kirby Smart, plus members from professional and college teams, clinics and more. The Marshall Molar 5K will be held at 7 am on Saturday, June 1. NOTE: road closures associated with this event. Closures include 6th Avenue South between Broadway and Demonbreun, Demonbreun between 6th Avenue and 16th Avenue. Closures begin at 7 am and end at 8 am.


5th Annual Shoney's 5K Family Fun Run & Walk

SATURDAY, JUNE 1, 5K: 8 AM, KIDS' RUN: 9 AM, FESTIVAL UNTIL 11 AM
LOCATION: LP FIELD $30 THROUGH MAY 31; $35 RACE DAY; KIDS' RUN IS FREE

The 5K Run begins at 8 am and will be followed by the kids' fun run. After the races, there will be live music, a fun festival and kids' zone with free activities located in LP Field Lot T (at Victory Avenue). Registration begins at 7 am. Registration fee for adults increases to $35 on race day. PLEASE NOTE: road closures associated with this event! Demonbreun from 3rd Avenue to 14th Avenue and 3rd Avenue from Symphony Place to Demonbreun will be closed from 8 am - 10 am.

 

Music City Center Art Collection Celebration

SATURDAY, JUNE 1, 2 PM - 5:30 PM
LOCATION: MUSIC CITY CENTER FREE

A celebration of the center's extensive art collection. Enjoy guided art tours and presentations by commissioned artists. This afternoon is presented in partnership with Cheekwood Museum of Art, Frist Center for the Visual Arts, and Tennessee State University's Art Department. Afterwards, take a complimentary shuttle from the Music City Center Garage to 5th Avenue for the First Saturday Art Crawl. Shuttles will run from 4 pm to 9 pm.

 

First Saturday Art Crawl: Summer of Art

SATURDAY, JUNE 1, 4 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: 5TH AVENUE OF THE ARTS FREE

A very special First Saturday Art Crawl! This month's crawl includes an unveiling of the new 5th Avenue North streetscape improvements including the new draped lights that Mayor Karl Dean will turn on at 5:15 pm. 5th Avenue North between Church Street and Union will be blocked off for this festive event. Performance platforms will feature the 12 AM Band, Shagbark Trio, and puppets from the Nashville Public Library, previewing the upcoming International Puppet Festival. Additionally, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Tennessee Performing Arts Center, Tennessee State Museum, Metro Arts Commission, and Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum will have exhibits and interactive activities on the street. Food trucks will include Puckett's Trolley, The Cupcake Collection, Bang Candy Company, and Izzie's Ice. How's Nashville: Ending Chronic Homelessness Campaign Briefing

TUESDAY, JUNE 4, 10:30 AM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

A public briefing and the launch of a new community campaign, How’s Nashville: a collaborative effort to house the most vulnerable. Nashville is joining 190 other cities nationwide in a campaign to permanently house individuals and families who are medically vulnerable and chronically homeless. Attend this session to learn how the Metropolitan Homelessness Commission plans to move 200 people into housing within the next 100 days. Through the efforts of partners from the public and private sectors, 200 apartments with support services are available for one year.

Many road closures are planned throughout downtown for the CMA Music Festival. Some roads will close as early as Thursday, May 30 and all roads will be re-open by Monday, June 10 at 5 am. Click here for the full list and schedule.
