New restaurant - GRILLiT!
555 Church Street #101. 615-248-4500. This new Latin-Caribbean fusion restaurant offers fast casual service. Menu items include rice bowls, pasta, wraps and salads. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 10 am to 8:30 pm and Saturday - Sunday, 11 am to 7 pm.

Picnic in the Park

THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 11 AM - 2 PM
LOCATION: CHURCH STREET PARK FREE

Head to Church Street Park on your lunch break and enjoy a picnic in the park! Live music by Brandon Maddox beginning at noon. Plus, food available for purchase from local food trucks, Deg Thai and Slow Hand Coffee. Plus, Jay's Chicago, a hot dog vendor. The food trucks will be on site from 11 am to 2 pm. Or, bring your own lunch and enjoy eating outdoors while listening to great live music. Shaded tables and chairs will be set up for this event.
 

Live on the Green: Michael Franti & Spearhead

THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 6 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE GENERAL ADMISSION: FREE; VIP: $55

Enjoy live music in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse. This fifth annual concert series brings local and national artists to the stage. Blankets, folding chairs, strollers, and water bottles are welcomed at this free six-week concert series. The line-up for Thursday, August 22 includes The Delta Saints, Luelle and the Sun, and headliners Michael Franti & Spearhead. $3 parking available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage located directly below the park. Free bicycle parking provided by Walk/Bike Nashville. Or, ride Nashville B-cycle to the concert! Please note: road closures associated with this event! 3rd Avenue North between Union Street and James Robertson Parkway will close at 9 am on Thursday, August 22 and will reopen at midnight on Friday, August 23. Union Street between 2nd Avenue North and 3rd Avenue North will close around 5 pm on Thursday, August 22 and will reopen at midnight on Friday, August 23.


Music City Festival & BBQ Championship

FRIDAY, AUGUST 23 - SATURDAY, AUGUST 24, FRIDAY: 5 PM - 11 PM; SATURDAY: 11 AM - 11 PM
LOCATION: THE LAWN AT RIVERFRONT $10 - $75

Over 100 BBQ cook teams will compete for cash and prizes in this Tennessee State Championship event sanctioned by the Memphis BBQ Network and the Kansas City BBQ Society. Live music from 5 pm to 11 pm on Friday and from 1 pm to 11 pm on Saturday. Headliners are Andy T & Nick Nixon on Friday and the Scissormen Band on Saturday. Additional activities include the Kids' Zone, the Cool Cars & Hot Bikes Show, craft beer in the Biergarten and more. Saturday attendees can buy a special pass to sample and judge the teams' BBQ during the "People's Choice Award" in the Grand Ol' Porker Arena ($5 extra). NOTE: enter this event at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Broadway. Please note: road closures associated with this event! Closures begin as early as 9 am on Thursday, August 22 and end as late as 5 pm on Sunday, August 25. Roads impacted include 1st Avenue between Korean Veterans Boulevard and Church Street, Demonbreun between 1st and 2nd Avenues, Broadway between 1st and 5th Avenues (the cross streets of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th will remain open), and 2nd Avenue betwen Demonbreun and Church Street. 


Umphrey's McGee and STS9

FRIDAY, AUGUST 23, 7 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: RIVERFRONT PARK ADVANCE: $35; AT THE GATE: $40

Enjoy a late summer evening concert in Riverfront Park! Umphrey's McGee and STS9 will perform. Umphrey's McGee mixes progressive-rock, metal, funk, folk, jazz-fusion and rock-and roll to blend their own style. STS9 is an instrumental band whose sound is based heavily on instrumental rock and electronic music, funk, jazz, drum and bass, and hip hop. Gates open at 6 pm.

 

Hollywood and History: Capturing Accuracy in Spielberg's Lincoln

SATURDAY, AUGUST 24, 2 PM - 4 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

The authentic sound production in Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster film, Lincoln, will be the topic of this program. Greg Smith, the assistant sound director on the film, will talk about the lengths Spielberg went to in capturing authentic sounds. He will show clips and images from his work on the film and discuss the challenges of capturing historical accuracy in Hollywood films. After the presentation, the museum’s curators will lead tours of the Discovering the Civil War exhibit which includes the 13th Amendment, the topic of the Lincoln film. This is a unique opportunity to learn behind-the-scenes stories about one of the best historical films in recent years.


Walker's Bloody Mary Launch Party

SATURDAY, AUGUST 24, 10 AM - 2 PM
LOCATION: THE SOUTHERN STEAK & OYSTER

Enjoy this official launch party for Walker's Southern Bloody Mary Mix. Drink specials, free swag and prizes will be offered. Brunch reservations encouraged.


Official PBR After Party

SATURDAY, AUGUST 24
LOCATION: SILVER DOLLAR SALOON FREE

The official PBR after party for the Jack Daniel's Invitational! Meet and greets with professional bull riders including Jory Markiss and Sean Willingham, $2.50 PBR tall boys, and drawings for prizes. Plus, no cover and live music. This party begins as soon as the invitational is over on Saturday.


Food Truck Tuesday

TUESDAY, AUGUST 27, 11 AM – 1 PM
LOCATION: FIRST BAPTIST NASHVILLE

Join First Baptist Nashville for Food Truck Tuesdays. A food truck or two will be stationed in the church's driveway between 6th and 7th Avenues with food available for purchase. Trucks scheduled for August 27 are Yayo's O.M.G. and The Cupcake Collection.


Concerts in the Courtyard: Bobby Keys Band

TUESDAY, AUGUST 27, 11:45 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

The library's hit music series is back for another season! Bring a lunch to the library courtyard and enjoy free music by top acts in many genres every Tuesday through October 8. The Bobby Keys Band will perform on Tuesday, August 27. Bobby Keys is an American saxophone player.
