Downtown Employee Appreciation Week

Do you work downtown? Join us for the 4th Annual Downtown Employee Appreciation Week: September 9 - 13! Featuring many events including B-cycle Monday Mania, Corporate Tug-of-War, Nashville's Largest Coffee Break (free coffee!), Downtown's Next Superstar, Walk with the Mayor (free lunch!) and much more. Events This Week

Picnic in the Park

THURSDAY, AUGUST 29, 11 AM - 1:30 PM
LOCATION: CHURCH STREET PARK FREE

Head to Church Street Park on your lunch break and enjoy a picnic in the park! Live music by Brandon Maddox beginning at noon. Plus, food available for purchase from local food trucks, Smoke Et Al and Moovers and Shakers. The food trucks will be on site from 11 am to 1:30 pm. Or, bring your own lunch and enjoy eating outdoors while listening to great live music. Shaded tables and chairs will be set up for this event.

 

Live on the Green: Robert Randolph & The Family Band

THURSDAY, AUGUST 29, 6 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE GENERAL ADMISSION: FREE; VIP: $55

Enjoy live music in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse. This fifth annual concert series brings local and national artists to the stage. Blankets, folding chairs, strollers, and water bottles are welcomed at this free six-week concert series. The line-up for Thursday, August 29 includes St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Joe Robinson, and headliners Robert Randolph & The Family Band. $3 parking available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage located directly below the park. Free bicycle parking provided by Walk/Bike Nashville. Or, ride a Nashville B-cycle to the concert! Please note: road closures associated with this event! 3rd Avenue North between Union Street and James Robertson Parkway will close at 9 am on Thursday, August 29 and will reopen at midnight. Union Street between 2nd Avenue North and 3rd Avenue North will close around 5 pm on Thursday, August 29 and will reopen at midnight.


Frist Friday featuring Drivin' 'n Cryin'

FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS $10

The final show of the season for this popular summer concert series. Patrons are invited to enjoy an evening of live music, light snacks and beverages as well as the gallery exhibits. Drivin' 'n Cryin' is an American southern rock band based out of Atlanta. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to the event. Frist Fridays take place rain or shine. No admission charge for members, and non-members pay $10. Admission includes entrance to the center's current exhibits including Sensuous Steel: Art Deco Automobiles.


Grand Master Fiddler Championship

FRIDAY, AUGUST 30 - SATURDAY, AUGUST 31, FRIDAY: 10 AM - 7 PM; SATURDAY: 9:30 AM - 5 PM
LOCATION: COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM FREE; PROGRAM PASSES ENCOURAGED

The Grand Master Fiddler Championship is the premier contest of its kind, with the aim of recognizing the top fiddler in North America. This marks the first time that the contest will be hosted by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Past winners such as Mark O'Connor and Jimmy Mattingly have had hugely successful recording and touring careers. Competition rounds will take place on both days, interspersed with performances by renowned old-time and bluegrass musicians. Click here for the full schedule

 

Concerts in the Courtyard: Marshall Chapman, Will Kimbrough & Tommy Womack

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 11:45 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

The library's hit music series continues. Bring a lunch to the library courtyard and enjoy free music by top acts in many genres every Tuesday through October 8. Local singer-songwriters Marshall Chapman, Will Kimbrough and Tommy Womack will perform on Tuesday, September 3.


CMT Hot 20 Countdown: Studio Audience Opportunity

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA FREE

Be part of the audience for CMT's Hot 20 Countdown. Two segments: 8:30 am to 11:30 am and 1 pm to 3:30 pm. Sign up to come to either segment or both. Lunch is usually provided for those who stay for both segments. Ages 18 and up only.

 

 

Downtown Discount

Free Dessert at Rodizio Grill!
166 2nd Avenue N. 615-730-8358. Rodizio Grill is open for lunch on Thursdays and Fridays and Downtown Details subscribers can receive a free dessert with purchase of the "full rodizio" lunch on any Thursday or Friday through September 30, 2013. The password for this freebie is "Downtown Details Reader." The "full rodizio" lunch includes unlimited appetizers, salads, and rotisserie grilled meats. Valet parking available.

Printers Alley: One-Way Southbound

Heads up! Printers Alley is now open for service vehicles only and is a one-way alley. Service vehicles can enter via Union Street or Bank Alley and head southbound down the alley. Patrons using the Printers Alley parking garage will not be impacted by this change.
