New art gallery - Gallery One!
213 3rd Avenue North. 615-352-3006. This art gallery has relocated from Belle Meade to downtown Nashville and will be open to the public on Saturday, September 7 for the First Saturday Art Crawl. More info below. Hours of operation are Tuesday - Saturday, 10 am - 4 pm.
 

New art gallery - WAG!
77 Arcade. 615-383-4848. This gallery will feature work by students from Watkins College of Art, Design & Film. WAG (Watkins Arcade Gallery) will be open to the public on Saturday, September 7 for the First Saturday Art Crawl. More info below. Hours of operation are 6 pm - 9 pm during the First Saturday Art Crawl and by appointment.
 

New museum - Musicians Hall of Fame!
417 4th Avenue North. 615-244-3263. The Musicians Hall of Fame is now open and is located inside the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. Hours of operation are Monday - Saturday, 10 am - 5 pm. Admission is $10.95 for children ages 7 to 17 and $18.95 for ages 18 and up.

 

Events This Week

Picnic in the Park

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 11 AM - 1:30 PM
LOCATION: CHURCH STREET PARK FREE

Head to Church Street Park on your lunch break and enjoy a picnic in the park! Live music by Katelyn Pope beginning at noon. Plus, food available for purchase from Jonbalaya. The food truck will be on site from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Or, bring your own lunch and enjoy eating outdoors while listening to great live music. Shaded tables and chairs will be set up for this event.

 

Live on the Green: Local Natives

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 6 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE GENERAL ADMISSION: FREE; VIP: $55

Enjoy live music in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse. This fifth annual concert series brings local and national artists to the stage. Blankets, folding chairs, strollers, and water bottles are welcomed at this free six-week concert series. The line-up for Thursday, September 5 includes Leagues, Lulu Mae, and headliners, Local Natives. $3 parking available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage located directly below the park. Free bicycle parking provided by Walk/Bike Nashville. Or, ride Nashville B-cycle to the concert. Please note: road closures associated with this event! 3rd Avenue North between Union Street and James Robertson Parkway will close at 9 am on Thursday, August 29 and will reopen at midnight. Union Street between 2nd Avenue North and 3rd Avenue North will close around 5 pm on Thursday, September 5 and will reopen at midnight.


Russian Spectacular

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, PERFORMANCE TIMES VARY BY DATE
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $27 - $138

The symphony's classical series season opener. Performances include Mussorgsky’s musical thrill ride, Night on Bald Mountain, which is featured in the Disney classic Fantasia. Then, Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto featuring keyboard fireworks. Finally, Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony capturing the victorious, soul-searching spirit of Tchaikovsky and Beethoven.


Home Decorating & Remodeling Show

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, FRI NOON - 9 PM; SAT 10 AM - 9 PM; SUN 10 AM - 6 PM

Featuring over 600 exhibition booths showcasing home remodeling and decoration trends, designs, and more. The largest and finest show in Tennessee, this upscale consumer show features unique and new products, plus daily seminars. 


Keith Urban: Lighting the FUSE on Lower Broadway

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 9:30 PM
LOCATION: HONKY TONKS

Keith Urban will celebrate the release of his new album, FUSE, and will perform a progressive concert along Lower Broadway. His first stop will be Legends Corner, followed by Tootsies Orchid Lounge and he will end the show at The Stage on Broadway. Reserved spots at these three honky tonks can be won from three local radio stations. Please note: road closures associated with this event! Westbound lanes of Broadway between 4th and 5th will be closed from 11 am on Friday, September 6 until midnight. All lanes of Broadway between 4th and 5th will be closed from 3 pm until midnight. And, beginning at 5 pm Broadway between 4th and 6th Avenue will be closed, including 5th Avenue between Commerce and Demonbreun.


Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 8:30 AM

Run, walk and honor our first responders and military heroes who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty. The 5K will start at Union Street and 2nd Avenue and participants will make their way through the downtown area. Tunnel to Towers will host a concert and party after the run! Please note: road closures will be associated with this event. Closures begin at 8 am and are rolling road closures. Closures will be lifted as soon as participants have finished along that portion of the course.


7th Annual Cumberland River Dragon Boat Festival

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 10 AM - 6 PM
LOCATION: RIVERFRONT PARK FREE FOR SPECTATORS

The Cumberland River Dragon Boat Festival combines the excitement of racing with the beauty and spectacle of Nashville's diverse culture. In Chinese tradition, the dragon is a symbol of health and prosperity, and dragon boat racing inspires health and fitness among participants as well as spectators. The races begin at 11 am and four teams will race approximately every 20 minutes. One team will be crowned the Grand Champion during the closing ceremonies at the Main Festival Tent.


Rumble at the Rock

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, NOON - 4 PM
LOCATION: HARD ROCK CAFE $10 IN ADVANCE; $15 AT THE DOOR

Let the games begin! Musicians On Call's young professionals committee and Hard Rock Nashville present "Rumble at the Rock." Games include a giant inflatable obstacle course, dunking booth, ring toss, Twister and more. Rumble at the Rock is sponsored by Hard Rock Nashville, SESAC, and The KSCO and will benefit the local Nashville branch of Musicians On Call.


First Saturday Art Crawl

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: 5TH AVENUE OF THE ARTS

Art galleries throughout downtown host receptions and art openings every month. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. Performance platforms will feature Meltzer Parsons Project Band and a juggler, Tom Foolery. See this month's gallery map. Petey's Preds Party

This exciting evening includes a buffet-style dinner, a comedic performance by Kevin Nealon, and a world-class silent auction. Ticket prices vary depending on the purchase of a table compared to the purchase of an individual ticket.


Nashville in Harmony

Nashville in Harmony, a city chorus for GLBT people and their supporters, is proud to bring a unique style and voice to the Nashville scene.
