The Nashville Downtown Partnership 2013 Annual Meeting & Awards Luncheon is Wednesday, October 2 at Music City Center. Reserve a table or individual seats by Friday, September 27 to attend this year's event. 

 

Events This Week

 

Picnic in the Park

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 11 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: CHURCH STREET PARK

Head to Church Street Park on your lunch break and enjoy a picnic in the park! Live music by Noelle LaRae beginning at noon. Plus, food available for purchase from Jonbalaya. The food truck will be on site from 11 am to 1 pm. Or, bring your own lunch and enjoy eating outdoors while listening to great live music. Shaded tables and chairs will be set up for this event.


Southern Ground Music & Food Festival

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28
LOCATION: THE LAWN AT RIVERFRONT $79 - $299

Zac Brown Band's Southern Ground Music & Food Festival returns to Nashville for a two-day festival at The Lawn at Riverfront Park. The Zac Brown Band will perform both nights with additional performances by Kenny Chesney, Jason Mraz, Eli Young Band, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and many more! Concessions will be available from Cookie (Zac Brown Band's mobile kitchen), Southern Ground Social Club, Girl & The Goat, and many local food venues. PLEASE NOTE: Road closures associated with this event! Portions of 1st Avenue, Broadway, Demonbreun, Korean Veterans Boulevard and Molloy will be closed.


Hyatt Place Nashville Job Fair

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, FRIDAY: 10 AM - 7 PM; SATURDAY: 9 AM - 6 PM
LOCATION: MUSIC CITY CENTER FREE

The hotel will complete interviews for full-time and part-time hourly positions in audit, guest service, housekeeping, inspecting, laundry, maintenance, accounting, sales and food and beverage. No appointments are necessary. The interviews will be held in Meeting Room 105A at the Music City Center. Candidates are asked to complete an application in advance.


Women's Running Half Marathon

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 7 AM
LOCATION: WALK OF FAME PARK HALF MARATHON: $105; 5K: $45

This fourth annual Women's Half Marathon starts and finishes in front of the Country Music Hall of Fame with a course covering the best of Nashville. Each registered individual must pick up her own race packet at the two-day Health & Fitness Expo at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel prior to the race. Packet pick-up for registered runners includes race number, timing tag and a goodie bag. Registration for the half marathon and 5K is available during the expo and is not available on race day. Note! Road closures are associated with this event. Closures begin at 5 am and are rolling closures. The majority of roads will re-open by 12:30 pm.


Walk Off Crime for No More Victims

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, REGISTRATION: 9:30 AM; WALK: 10 AM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE REGISTRATION: $20

Sponsored by You Have the Power and the Tennessee Department of Correction, the 3-mile/5K fundraising walk through downtown Nashville will be led by You Have the Power's founder, former Tennessee First Lady Andrea Conte. Celebrate the organization's 20 years of serving the community. You Have the Power is a non-profit with the mission to educate, advocate and empower people and communities who are impacted by violent crime. The 5K walk begins and ends at the Metro Courthouse in Public Square.


The Healthy Living Expo

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, SATURDAY: 9 AM - 5 PM; SUNDAY: 10 AM - 4 PM
LOCATION: MUSIC CITY CENTER ONLINE IN ADVANCE: FREE; AT THE DOOR: $10; CHILDREN 12 & UNDER: FREE

Attendees can learn about local and national health, fitness, nutritional, and living green initiatives and products at this family-friendly expo. Tickets are available in advance online for free, or are $10 at the door.


SPROCKET Improv presents "Don't Eat That!"

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 8 PM - 9:30 PM
LOCATION: THE FILMING STATION $10 ONLINE AND AT DOOR; $8 WITH VANDERBILT ID

SPROCKET Improv and Vanderbilt's group "Tongue 'n Cheek" will ask the audience for suggestions about what to perform. Enjoy performances by these two groups. BYOB is allowed.


Free Day of Music

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 10 AM - 9 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER FREE

The perfect way to celebrate a beautiful Fall day! The entire community is invited to the Schermerhorn Symphony Center to enjoy free musical performances all day long and into the night. This free day of music will feature over twenty local ensembles performing in various spaces throughout the building. The music will range from classical to jazz to pop, with an 11 am concert by the Nashville Symphony in the Laura Turner Concert Hall. Plus, a kids' zone featuring an instrument petting zoo, crafts and more. Plus, free parking and free shuttle service from LP Field Lot R from noon to 10 pm.

 

Centennial Pipe Organ Celebration

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 10:55 AM - NOON; 3 PM - 4 PM 
LOCATION: DOWNTOWN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH FREE

The Downtown Presbyterian Church will rededicate their 100-year-old pipe organ during the Sunday, September 29 worship service from 10:55 am - noon. There will be a premiere of an anthem by Dr. Michael Sitton especially commissioned for the organ's centennial during the service. At 3 pm, an organ recital by Dr. John C. Walker will include a piece from the organ's original 1913 recital. A reception will follow the performance.


Nashville Chili Festival

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, NOON - 3 PM
LOCATION: YAZOO BREWING COMPANY AND TAP ROOM ADMISSION: $10 - $25; CONTEST ENTRY: $15 - $50

Find out who makes the best chili in Nashville. Additional activities include live music, a pepper eating contest, kids' activities and more. The $25 admission price includes four Yazoo brew tickets. A portion of the proceeds from this event benefit Community Shares. Rules and entrance forms for the contest are available here.


Concerts in the Courtyard: Duffy Jackson Quintet

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 11:45 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

The library's hit music series continues. Bring a lunch to the library courtyard and enjoy free music by top acts in many genres every Tuesday through October 8. Drummer Duffy Jackson and his quintet will perform on Tuesday, October 1.


"Autism Sings!" Benefit Concert

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 7 PM
LOCATION: JIMMY BUFFETT'S MARGARITAVILLE NASHVILLE $20 PER PERSON; $30 PER COUPLE

Autism Speaks presents their 2nd Annual "Autism Sings!" benefit concert. Enjoy performances by Gloriana, Billy Dean, Bucky Covington, Jaci Velasquez, Austin Webb, Logan Blade, Katie Chance and Tyler Bardham.
