New hotel: Omni Nashville Hotel
250 5th Avenue South. 615-782-5300. This new hotel has 800 guest rooms, four restaurants, a rooftop pool and a spa. 
 

New restaurant: Bob's Steak and Chop House
250 5th Avenue South. 615-761-3707. This new restaurant offers fine dining and is open Monday - Thursday, 5 pm to 10 pm and Friday - Saturday, 5 pm - 11 pm.

New restaurant: Kitchen Notes
250 5th Avenue South. 615-761-3812. This restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hours are Monday - Sunday, 6:30 am - 10 pm.

New coffee shop: Bongo Java
250 5th Avenue South. 615-782-5300. This local coffee shop has opened inside the Omni Hotel. Hours of operation are Monday - Sunday, 6 am - 10 pm.

 

New bar: Barlines
250 5th Avenue South. 615-782-5300. A new honky tonk and live music venue. Hours are Monday - Sunday, 11 am - 1:30 am.

 

New retail shop: Five & Tenn
250 5th Avenue South. 615-761-3532. The Omni Hotel's gift shop featuring many local products. Hours of operation are Monday - Sunday, 7 am - 9 pm.

 

Re-open: McDonald's

Coffee with a Cop

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 7 AM - 9 AM
LOCATION: CHURCH STREET PARK FREE

An informal meeting with Sgt. John Bourque and the Metro Police Department. Coffee provided. Drop by anytime during the two-hour timeframe for casual conversation with the police about concerns, issues and more.

 

Picnic in the Park

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 11 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: CHURCH STREET PARK FREE

Head to Church Street Park on your lunch break and enjoy a picnic in the park! The Bakersfield Guitar Sounds Demonstration presented by the Country Music Hall of Fame begins at noon. Performers in this group will demonstrate musical styles associated with the Bakersfield Sound. Plus, food available for purchase from Music City Pie Co. and Moovers and Shakers. The food trucks will be on site from 11 am to 1 pm. Or, bring your own lunch and enjoy eating outdoors while listening to great live music. Shaded tables and chairs will be set up for this event.

 

Yazoo Birthday Bash

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4 - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, FRIDAY: 5 PM – 10:30 PM AND SATURDAY: NOON – 10:30 PM
LOCATION: YAZOO BREWING COMPANY AND TAP ROOM FREE

Nashville’s own Yazoo Brewing Company is celebrating its 10th birthday with a two-day bash. Enjoy live music from The Delta Saints, Space Capone, Chris Johnson, Commitment Bells, Ballhog!, Velvet Elvis, The Red Caps, and Scott Chism & the Better Half. All ages and best friends (four-legged included) are welcome.

 

Collectors Art Night

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 5:30 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: 5TH AVENUE OF THE ARTS FREE

Art talks on the 5th Avenue of the Arts hosted by Paul Polycarpou, editor of Nashville Arts Magazine. Cocktails will be served at 5:30 pm. At 6 pm, Tinney Contemporary will start the evening with a conversation with painter Jeanie Gooden on her new body of work, "With Wings." At 6:45 pm, artist Whitney Wood-Bailey will discuss her current exhibit at The Rymer Gallery. The Arts Company will complete the evening with Brett Weaver beginning at 7:15, who will talk about his artistic transformations from engineer to traditional landscape artist to contemporary abstract painter. This event is free, but registration is required. Click here to RSVP. With registration, the event includes free valet parking, complimentary appetizers by Puckett's, and desserts by the Cupcake Collection, with wine provided by the galleries.

 

First Saturday Art Crawl

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: 5TH AVENUE OF THE ARTS

Art galleries throughout downtown host receptions and art openings every month. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. Performance platforms will feature The Storm Kings and Clay Lady's Studios: Artist Co-op and Galleries. See this month's gallery map. Several downtown locations will be open especially for the crawl. Cute & Comfy Shoes (5 Arcade) will be open from 5 pm to 9 pm and will offer complimentary wine. CoLab (230 4th Avenue N.) will feature works by local artists, music provided by a DJ, free coffee and wine. Also, Cocina Mexican Grill will host an Exhibition of Art from 6 pm to 9 pm. Complimentary wine and food samples, a silent auction and paintings on display by local artists Niki Adams, Greg Kirschenbaum, and Audie Adams.

 

AIDS Walk

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, REGISTRATION: 10 AM, WALK/RUN: 11 AM
LOCATION: RIVERFRONT PARK 5K RUN: $25; WALK: FREE, DONATIONS REQUESTED

The annual Nashville AIDS Walk raises money and awareness for the fight against HIV and AIDS. Festivities include a concert, a community and business fair, and children's activities. The walk is approximately 3.1 miles long, and takes 45 minutes to one hour to complete. Kids and pets are welcome and water is provided for all registered walkers. Registration begins at 10 am and the walk/run begins at 11 am.

 

Walk Now for Autism Speaks

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, REGISTRATION AT 8:30 AM, WALK BEGINS AT 10 AM
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL 5K RUN: $25; WALK: FREE, DONATIONS REQUESTED

Walk Now for Autism Speaks is a fun-filled, family friendly event. The walk is free and the route is approximately one mile. The 5K Fun Run is $25. This event benefits Autism Speaks Tennessee which raises funds for vital research. Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disorder in the U.S. and affects one in 88 children, teens and adults. 

 

Concerts in the Courtyard: Serenatta

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 11:45 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

The final show of library's hit music series this season! Bring your lunch to the library's courtyard and enjoy free music. Serenatta, a Latin ensemble, performs on Tuesday, October 8.

 

The District's Progressive Party

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 6 PM - 10 PM
LOCATION: ROCK BOTTOM RESTAURANT & BREWERY $50 IN ADVANCE; $60 AT THE DOOR

The 27th Annual Progressive Party begins at Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery (111 Broadway), continues to The Stage (412 Broadway), and ends at the Omni Nashville Hotel (150 3rd Avenue South). Tickets include complimentary parking, food from downtown restaurants, wine and beer, and musical entertainment at each stop. Butch Spyridon will receive the 2013 Spirit of The DISTRICT Award. The celebrity host for the evening is Phil Vassar. Purchase tickets in advance online or at the event by arriving at Rock Bottom by 6 pm (before the party progresses to the second location). Proceeds from this event go to support The DISTRICT's holiday decorations and other projects of The DISTRICT.
