Studio Tenn's "A Christmas Carol"

Featuring design elements inspired by the Victorian/Industrial Era, this unique production evokes the styling and silhouettes of Charles Dickens’ day, but with strikingly modern twists. Fusing classical and current aesthetics and theatrical techniques, Studio Tenn’s innovative re-imagining of this holiday favorite transforms the familiar tale of Ebenezer Scrooge into a fresh, enthralling and unforgettable experience.

 

Holiday Party and Art Benefit

 

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12, 5 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: ALFRED WILLIAMS & COMPANY FREE

The event will feature art, food, drinks and music. All proceeds from art sales will be donated to the Cayce Place Revitalization Foundation, a nonprofit focusing on breaking the cycle of multigenerational poverty by providing educational resources to children in need.

 

Holiday Cocktail Mixer

Enjoy light hors d'oeuvres, holiday cocktails, a DJ, a photo booth and more. Plus, Katie Russo Beauty will be on site to give attendees tips and tricks on perfecting holiday and wedding looks. RSVP in advance.

 

33rd Annual Rudolph's Red Nose Run

 

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13, 6 PM
LOCATION: LP FIELD $35

Due to weather concerns, the 33rd Annual Rudolph's Red Nose Run was rescheduled from its original date on Friday, December 6 to its new date on Friday, December 13. Be part of one of Nashville's favorite holiday traditions. Start and finish line near the south end zone of LP Field. Note: road closures associated with this event. Closures begin at 4 pm and end at 9 pm on Friday, December 13. Closures include Victory (Titans Way to South 2nd Street), South 2nd Street (Victory to Russell), Russell (South 2nd Street to Titans Way), South 1st Street (Russell to Woodland), Woodland (South 1st Street to Union), Union (Woodland to 2nd Avenue North), 2nd Avenue North (Union to Broadway), Broadway (2nd Avenue to 7th Avenue). Holiday Dulcimer Concert

 

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1 PM - 4 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

A group of musicians known as “Tradition Continues” will play a mix of time-honored tunes and holiday classics. The performance is in conjuction with the museum's exhibit, "David’s Dulcimers: Instruments from the Schnaufer Collection," on view until Sunday, December 29.

 

It's a Wonderful Life Holiday Benefit

 

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14, 5 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: WAR MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM FREE

This 10th annual holiday gathering will begin with a cocktail hour at 5 pm, followed by a special viewing of "It's A Wonderful Life" at 6 pm. A festive reception will follow in the ballroom complete with food, drinks, live music, dancing and a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the Wonderful Life Foundation, a nonprofit that seeks to ease the financial burdens encountered by families of children with cancer.

 

Holiday Santa Brunch

 

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15, 10 AM - 2 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE CITY CLUB $19.95; $12 CHILDREN 6-12; 5 AND UNDER FREE

Take your tailgate inside on Sunday, December 15 when the Titans take on the Arizona Cardinals at LP Field. The City Club will host a special holiday brunch where guests can have their picture taken with Santa and enjoy a buffet featuring assorted breakfast and lunch items, along with bottomless mimosas and Bloody Marys.

 

Annual Service of Lessons and Carols

 

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15, 11 AM
LOCATION: DOWNTOWN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH FREE

A journey in words and music from the creation through the prophecies pointing to Christ's coming, His birth and the promise of Salvation. Music by Conrad Susa, Matthew Culloton, Herbert Howells and John Rutter, plus traditional favorite carols.

 

Candlelight Festival of Lessons and Carols

 

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15, 4 PM
LOCATION: CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL FREE

Readings and music celebrating the birth of Jesus featuring the cathedral choir and senior choristers. Under the direction of Dr. Michael Velting, canon for music, and Jon Johnson, associate organist and choirmaster. A reception will follow.

 

Keyboards at Christmas

 

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15, 6 PM - 7:30 PM
LOCATION: FIRST BAPTIST NASHVILLE FREE

Six grand pianos, 528 keys, 24 hands, The Sanctuary Choir and some of First Baptist's most talented instrumentalists will present "Keyboards at Christmas." All ages will delight at the sights and sounds of this festive musical evening in celebration of Christmas on a truly "grand" scale.

 

A Merry Tuba Christmas

 

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 11 AM AND 12:30 PM
LOCATION: FIRST BAPTIST NASHVILLE FREE

A concert of Christmas carols featuring 100 tubas. Tuba, sousaphone, euphonium and baritone horn players from across the nation will play Christmas carols, first with instruments only and then with everyone singing along. The performances are approximately 45 minutes in length. Parking is free in the church's lots.

 

The Billy Block Show: Haitian School Benefit

 

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 6:30 PM
LOCATION: MERCY LOUNGE $10

Five Nashville-native bands will participate in Billy Block's second annual concert benefiting the nonprofit Trezò, an organization that supports an intimate, community-based Christian day school in Cayes-Jacmel, Haiti. The school provides a place of safety, education, nutrition and healthcare for approximately 90 local children.

 

McKendree Daycare's Christmas Caroling

 

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 11 AM - 11:45 AM
LOCATION: MCKENDREE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH FREE

Nothing says Christmas like hearing a group of children sing "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Joy to the World." More than 30 of McKendree United Methodist Church's three, four and five year olds will sing from the church's steps as a way of ushering in the holiday season to the downtown community. Volunteers will also pass out cookies to passersby.
