New art gallery: Hannah Lane Gallery!
64 Arcade. 225-315-0221. This new gallery showcases the vibrant, contemporary paintings by Nashville-based artist Hannah Lane. Visit the gallery during its opening reception on Saturday, March 1 between 6 pm and 9 pm as part of the First Saturday Art Crawl. Regular hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 10 am - 4 pm.


Road Closures
Union Street (6th Avenue North to 7th Avenue North) will be closed until Saturday, March 1. Plus, Almond Street (Peabody Street to Korean Veterans Boulevard) will be closed until Monday, March 24.

Curator's Tour: "Goya: The Disasters of War"

 

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28, NOON
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS GALLERY ADMISSION REQUIRED

Join exhibition curator Janis Tomlinson for a tour exploring Francisco Goya's series of 80 aquatint etchings, "The Disasters of War." Inspired by the Napoleonic invasion and occupation of Spain during the Peninsular War of the early 1800s, Goya gives form to the dehumanizing effects of conflict on both victors and victims. Tomlinson will discuss the creative evolution of this groundbreaking series that would inspire artists for centuries to come.

 

First Saturday Art Crawl

Several downtown locations will be open especially for the crawl. Cute & Comfy Shoes (5 Arcade) will be open from 6 pm to 9 pm and will offer complimentary wine. Plus, Karma (302 Church Street) and Sisterhood of the Tamale will host a spoken word multimedia event with free wine and tamale appetizers until 10 pm, and will offer 25% off clothing.

 

Mardi Gras Y'all

 

SATURDAY, MARCH 1, NOON - 10 PM
LOCATION: RIVERFRONT PARK FREE

Nashville’s Riverfront Park will be home to the inaugural Mardi Gras Y’all, Tennessee’s first ever citywide Mardi Gras celebration. Performers include Stacy Mitchhart, Cooper & The Jam, Bree, Kansas Bible Company, Corey Mac and more. Plus, jugglers, magicians, fire spinners, dancers, comedians, karaoke, 15 local food trucks and more! Note: road closures associated with this event. Closures include Broadway (1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue) and 1st Avenue (Church to Demonbreun) beginning as early as 6 am and ending as late as 11 pm on Saturday, March 1. Click here for additional information.

 

Predators Hockey Fights Cancer

 

SATURDAY, MARCH 1, PLAZA PARTY: NOON; GAME: 2 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA $15 - $470

Join the Predators for Hockey Fights Cancer as they take on the Winnipeg Jets at a special start time of 2 pm. All silent auction proceeds, donations collected at the doors, mystery pucks, mystery sticks and autographed practice jerseys worn by Preds players will benefit the 365 Pediatric Cancer Fund. Plus, enjoy a Preds Plaza Party beginning at noon including interactive games, live music, food and drinks.

 

Coffee with a Cop

LOCATION: NASHVILLE DOWNTOWN PARTNERSHIP FREE

An informal meeting with Commander Jason Reinbold and the Metro Police Department. Coffee and breakfast food provided. Drop by anytime between 7:30 am and 9 am for casual conversation with the police about concerns, issues, future goals and more. RSVP in advance.

 

Yazoo Mardi Crawl

 

TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 6 PM
LOCATION: HOOTERS FREE TO ATTEND

Join Yazoo Brewing Company for its annual Mardi Crawl event in celebration of Fat Tuesday. The crawl begins at Hooters at 6 pm and will stop at several bars along 2nd Avenue. The event includes Yazoo beer specials at each stop, party favors, contests and giveaways, including a trip for two to New Orleans.

 

Hay Y’all! An All-Star Tribute to Hee Haw

 

TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM
LOCATION: COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM $75

The event will pay tribute to the long-running American television variety show “Hee Haw.” This modern version will be a simulated taping of the classic show with performances by country music newcomers and established artists. Performers include Pam Tillis, Lorrie Morgan, Joe Diffie, Lauren Alaina, The Warren Brothers and more. Proceeds benefit the Rochelle Center, a nonprofit that assists individuals with disabilities to achieve their goals for quality lives and community involvement.

 

Refresh

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, NOON - 12:30 PM
LOCATION: MCKENDREE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH FREE

Stop by McKendree United Methodist Church for its weekly service to "refresh" in the middle of the work week. Each half-hour service includes music, a short Scripture reading from the pastor and communion. 

 

Ash Wednesday Services

 

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, NOON AND 7 PM
LOCATION: FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH ELCA FREE

First Lutheran's Ash Wednesday services include Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes. Free parking provided in the lot at the corner of 8th Avenue S and McGavock.

Downtown Grocery Stores

Downtown Nashville has two grocery stores! H.G. Hill Urban Market (415 Church Street) features produce, a selection of meats, bakery items, groceries and more. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 7 am - 9 pm and Saturday - Sunday, 9 am - 9 pm. The Turnip Truck Urban Fare (321 12 Ave S) offers organic produce, fresh meats and additional groceries. Hours of operation are Monday - Saturday, 8 am - 8 pm and Sunday, 9 am - 8 pm.
