Nashville artist Lain York’s series "Selections from the National Gallery" was inspired by David McCullough’s biography of President John Adams. By rendering significant scenes in loosely hung, cut-vinyl silhouettes, York brings humor and wit to an art genre steeped in pomp and circumstance — history painting. Join the artist for a discussion of his sources of inspiration and working methods in this gallery talk.

The Color Run is a feel-good, happy and colorful race. Color runners go from wearing pristine white clothing to being covered in prismatic color. The Color Run celebrates healthiness, happiness and individuality and brings the community together to create a five-kilometer canvas of colorful fun.
Note: road closures associated with this event. Closures include Victory Avenue (South 1st Street to Titans Way), Titans Way (Victory Avenue to Russell Street), Russell Street (Titans Way to Interstate Drive), Interstate Drive (Russell Street to Woodland Street), Woodland Street (Interstate Drive to Union Street), Union Street (1st Avenue North to Printers Alley), Printers Alley (Union Street to Church Street), Church Street (Printers Alley to 2nd Avenue North), 2nd Avenue North (Church Street to Broadway), Broadway (2nd Avenue to 3rd Avenue), 3rd Avenue South (Broadway to Symphony Place) and the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge. Jim Hoobler wrote "A Guide to Historic Nashville, Tennessee," an architectural guide to the city. Hoobler will conduct a lecture on Saturday morning and a walking tour the following afternoon to showcase some of downtown's finest architecture and shed light on historical details.
Author John F. Baker Jr. will discuss his book "The Washingtons of Wessyngton Plantation,” which provided critical information for the museum's current "Slaves and Slaveholders of Wessyngton Plantation" exhibit. Baker will talk about his research and the impact of discovering one's own heritage. A book signing will follow. Following the lecture, exhibit curator Rob DeHart will lead a tour of the exhibit.
Biscuit Love Truck owners Karl and Sarah Worley will turn over the reigns to local high school student, Charlie Hilly, at a pop-up style event at Nashville Farmers' Market. The meat and three inspired menu will feature a fusion of Southern and Indian cuisine. This is the first of Biscuit Love Truck's series of special food events created to showcase community partnerships and culinary playfulness. Proceeds benefit the Nashville Food Project. The inaugural Tennessee Kidney Foundation Spring Soirée will feature a reception, open bar, dinner, entertainment, live auction and dancing. The event seeks to raise awareness and funds to help support the more than 502,000 individuals in Tennessee that are considered at risk for chronic kidney disease.

Francis Merriman, the Nashville-based luxury menswear designer, will host a party to introduce the brand to Nashville as well as its pre-collection for Fall 2014. Plus, enjoy art by Carlos Gamez de Francisco, complimentary Cuestion Tequila, hors d'oeuvres and more.
Peter Mayer, famed guitarist, singer/songwriter and longtime member of Jimmy Buffett's band, will perform in concert as a benefit for the ELCA Malaria Campaign. Donations encouraged. Free parking provided in the lot at the corner of 8th Avenue S and McGavock.
The Gateway Chamber Orchestra will perform its "Historic Seconds" concert in the Freemasons Auditorium of the Grand Lodge of Tennessee. Beethoven's trailblazing Second Symphony will be paired with Schoenberg's Second Chamber Symphony. Plus, Henry Brant's spatial tone poem "On the Nature of Things" will showcase the acoustics of the historic space and set the stage for the musical performances.
Karen Joy Fowler will speak about her latest novel, "We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves." Fowler's novel is the third book selection for Nashville Reads, a citywide campaign to encourage Nashvillians to read the same book at the same time to create a shared experience of reading in the city. A book signing will follow.
TUESDAY, APRIL 1, 8 PM

Eight designers will showcase their collections in Nashville Fashion Week's opening night runway show at The Rosewall. After the show, join the official kick-off party at Virago including signature cocktails and bites. Nashville Fashion Week is a celebration of Nashville's thriving fashion and retail community and its vast array of creative talent taking place from Tuesday, April 1 - Saturday, April 5. Volunteers Needed!
The 2014 NCAA Women's Final Four is coming to Nashville, and volunteering is a great way to get involved! Volunteers must be 18 years or older and work at least two shifts with a maximum of four shifts. All volunteers will receive an official Nike polo and jacket. Tickets for the 11th Annual Downtown Home Tour are available! Tour tickets are $10 (ages 17 and under are free). In addition to receiving a glimpse inside Nashville's urban residential communities, several downtown restaurants, shops and other businesses will offer specials for the Home Tour.
