Employee Appreciation Week!
Do you work downtown? Employee Appreciation Week continues through Friday, August 29. Remaining events include Corporate Tug-of-War and Get Your Sweet Treat! Plus, check out this list of merchants and other downtown businesses that are offering special discounts and freebies this week (and some are running longer promotions).

Live on the Green: Capital Cities

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 28, 6 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

Enjoy free live music outside in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse. This sixth annual concert series brings local and national artists to the stage. Blankets, folding chairs, strollers and water bottles are welcome. The lineup for Thursday, August 28 includes All Them Witches, The Features and headliner, Capital Cities. $10 parking available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage, located directly below the park. Free bicycle parking with Walk/Bike Nashville. VIP tickets available for $60. Tickets include beer, wine, soft drinks, water, food and an incredible view of the stage. Please note: road closures associated with this event! 3rd Avenue North between Union Street and James Robertson Parkway and Union Street (two lanes of westbound traffic) from 3rd Avenue North to LP Field will be closed beginning at 1 pm on Thursday, August 28 and will reopen at midnight on Friday, August 29.

 

Frist Fridays Concert Series: The Tyrone Smith Revue

 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 29, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FRIST MEMBERS: FREE; NON-MEMBERS: $10

This year's final concert of the Frist's popular summer concert series. Attendees are invited to enjoy an evening of live music, light snacks and beverages as well as the exhibits on view in the center’s galleries. The Tyrone Smith Revue featuring Super T will perform in the courtyard. This high-energy group dazzles audiences with their expansive set lists covering hits from classic rock to R&B and everything in between.

 

Back to the Bridge Mixer

 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 29, 8 PM - 1 AM
LOCATION: JOHN SEIGENTHALER PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE $10

The fifth annual John Merritt Classic "Back to the Bridge" Mixer! The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge will transform into a kick-off party for the Tennessee State University vs. Edward Waters College football game, which takes place the following day on Saturday, August 30 at LP Field. Featuring live music, dancing, and food and drink vendors.

 

Walk 100 Miles Finale Celebration

 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 30, 8 AM - NOON
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

Join Mayor Karl Dean as he hosts the finale celebration for all participants in the Walk 100 Miles with Nashville campaign. The event will begin with a 4-mile walk around downtown at 8 am and continue with activities, live music and a ceremony recognizing all participants who walked 100 miles. Families can enjoy splash water fountains located near the lawn of Public Square, healthy food and games for the kids. Walk 100 participants who completed the total 100 miles since the campaign started can pick up their free t-shirts. 

 

3rd Annual Nashville Street Food Awards

 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 30, 11 AM - 5 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET FREE TO ATTEND

A free, all-ages event with more than 30 local food trucks participating in a friendly, culinary competition. A panel of judges will sample blind entries from competing trucks in a variety of street food categories throughout the day. The winners will be named at the conclusion of the event at 5 pm. Plus, craft beer, live music, farmers’ market vendors and activities for children.

 

Gulch Beer Fest

 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 30, 1 PM - 6 PM
LOCATION: JACKALOPE BREWING COMPANY $50

The second annual Gulch Beer Fest will feature 40 Southern craft beer brewers and more than 100 different types of beer. Enjoy unlimited samples of delicious beer, music, food trucks and local vendors.

 

Courtyard Concerts: Annie Selleck and the Hot Club of Nashville

 

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 11:45 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

The library's hit music series continues. Bring a lunch to the library courtyard and enjoy free music by top acts in many genres every Tuesday through October 7. Enjoy Annie Selleck's hard-swinging singing with the Hot Club of Nashville's fiery guitar and violin solos on Tuesday, September 2.

 

Picnic in the Park

 

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 11 AM - 1:30 PM
LOCATION: CHURCH STREET PARK FREE

Plan ahead to visit Church Street Park on your lunch break and enjoy a picnic in the park! Live entertainment beginning at 11:30 am. Plus, food available for purchase from Gigi's Cupcakes with another food truck (TBA) from 11 am - 1:30 pm. Or, bring your own lunch and enjoy eating outdoors while listening to great live music. Shaded tables and chairs will be set up for this event.
