New coffee shop: Barista Parlor Golden Sound!
610 Magazine Street. 615-227-4782. Barista Parlor's second Nashville location is now open in the former Golden Sound recording studio in The Gulch. Barista Parlor Golden Sound offers high-end coffee and espresso, a variety of biscuits and breakfast sandwiches featuring local meat and cheeses, homemade baked goods and more. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 7 am - 8 pm and Saturday - Sunday, 8 am - 8 pm.


New brewery and taproom: The Picnic Tap!
Nashville Farmers' Market. 900 Rosa L Parks Boulevard. 615-823-2545. The Picnic Tap is pioneering as the first Nashville Farmers' Market establishment to offer a changing array of local and regional craft beers, growler fill-ups for take-home and a locally produced picnic-style menu. Hours of operation are Monday - Wednesday, 11 am - 3 pm and Thursday - Sunday, 11 am - 8 pm.

Al Menah Temple Shrine Circus

The Al Menah Temple Shrine Circus is back at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium — a fun family adventure for all ages. Join the pre-party one hour before show times. For a small additional fee, ride an elephant or pony, get your face painted, and meet circus stars up close and in person.

 

Nashville Predators vs. Ottawa Senators

 

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9, 7 PM

Cheer on the Nashville Predators at the first home game of the 2014 - 2015 regular season as they host the Ottawa Senators!

 

Southern Festival of Books

LOCATION: WAR MEMORIAL PLAZA FREE

Now in its 26th year, the Southern Festival of Books is a free, three-day celebration of the written word that provides book-loving guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with their favorite authors. Award-winning authors headlining the festival include Ishmael Beah, Pat Conroy, Jasper Fforde, Lev Grossman, Christina Baker Kline and many others. Light the Night Walk

 

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, REGISTRATION: 5:30 PM; CEREMONY: 7 PM; WALK: 7:30 PM
LOCATION: LP FIELD FREE

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual fundraising event to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Participants raise funds for lifesaving research and patient services and, on this night, carry illuminated balloons to show support. Plus, live music, kids' activities, a bone marrow drive and a remembrance ceremony. Registration begins at 5:30 pm, the opening ceremony is at 7 pm and the walk starts at 7:30 pm. The two-mile walk begins and ends near the north entrance of LP Field. A fireworks show will "light the night" and end the event. Please note: road closures associated with this event. Roads along this course will be closed beginning at 7:30 pm and are rolling closures. All roads will re-open by 8:30 pm.
 

Charles Esten & Friends: Light the Late Night

 

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, 10 PM
LOCATION: 3RD AND LINDSLEY $40

Following the Light the Night Walk, join Charles Esten (Deacon Claybourne on ABC's "Nashville") and several of his musician friends for a special show at 3rd & Lindsley. All proceeds will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A meet and greet will follow the show. Click here to purchase tickets.

 

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, REGISTRATION: 7:30 AM; WALK: 9 AM
LOCATION: LP FIELD FREE

Join the fight against breast cancer in this 4.6-mile, non-competitive fundraising walk benefiting the American Cancer Society. A two-mile shortcut is also available. This walk honors and celebrates breast cancer survivors and supports the organization’s mission to save lives by finding cures and fighting back against the disease. Please note: road closures associated with this event. Roads along this course will be closed beginning at 9 am and are rolling closures. All roads will re-open by 11 am.

 

Gulch Beer Fest

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1 PM - 6 PM
LOCATION: JACKALOPE BREWING COMPANY $50

The second annual Gulch Beer Fest will feature 40 Southern craft beer brewers and more than 100 different types of beer. Enjoy unlimited samples of delicious beer, music, food trucks and local vendors. Please note: this event was originally scheduled for Saturday, August 30 and was rescheduled due to weather.

 

An Afternoon with Ina May Gaskin

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2 PM - 4 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

Ina May Gaskin, founder and director of The Farm Midwifery Center, will speak about traveling cross-country with her late husband, Stephen Gaskin, in 1971 before settling in Tennessee. They helped establish a 1,500-member communal settlement in Middle Tennessee known as The Farm. The event is held in conjunction with the museum's current exhibit "Tennessee's Intentional Communities: Examining The Farm, Nashoba, Rugby, and Ruskin," a look at four unique social living experiments that existed in the state over the past 180 years.

 

Nashville Zombie Walk

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, REGISTRATION: 2 PM; WALK: 3 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

The Nashville Zombie Walk is a free, fun-focused charitable drive that allows enthusiasts to dress as the living dead and walk through downtown. The walk begins and ends at Public Square. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items on the day of the walk to be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Please note: road closures associated with this event. 2nd Avenue North (Union Street to Broadway) will be closed beginning as early as 3 pm and ending as late as 4 pm on Saturday, October 11.

 

Nashville Whiskey Festival

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 6:30 PM - 10 PM
LOCATION: COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM $100 GENERAL ADMISSION; $150 VIP

The third annual Nashville Whiskey Festival will feature a grand tasting event on Saturday, October 11. The event will include approximately 60 whiskey producers leading seminars throughout the evening while pouring more than 300 of the finest bottles of scotch, whiskey, bourbon and rye. Plus, a cigar bar, live music, bites and more. VIP tickets include an extra hour of crowd-free tasting and exclusive product pours. Please note: the events originally scheduled for Thursday, October 9 and Friday, October 10 have been canceled.

 

Soiree Saturdays

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 10 PM
LOCATION: ANTHEM $10 AFTER 11 PM (LADIES FREE ALL EVENING)

Nashville's premier nightlife experience, Soiree at Anthem, is once again bringing the best party in town! Featuring Keno, Sir Lazenby, DJ Carmine and more. Plus, a social media friendly photo booth to help document your evening. Slim Sinatra and Smoke Signals BBQ will also be on-site with good eats.

 

Monster Sundays

 

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12, DOORS OPEN: 6:30 PM; MOVIE: 7:30 PM
LOCATION: YAZOO BREWING COMPANY AND TAPROOM FREE TO ATTEND

Enjoy Monster Sundays each week until October 26! Every Sunday, Yazoo will screen a different classic monster movie in the taproom or outside depending on weather. Plus, $5 Yazoo monster beers with collectible cups (a different cup will be featured each week), free popcorn and food truck fare available for purchase.

 

Music with a Mission

An evening of musical entertainment featuring some of Nashville’s most talented singers, songwriters and performers benefiting the Nashville Rescue Mission. This fourth annual event will be hosted by Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers along with the Nashville Symphony. Enjoy a star-studded lineup of celebrity entertainers including Lynda Carter, The Beegie Adair Trio, Tracy Lawrence, Charles Esten, The Henningsens, The Willis Clan and Jesse Lee Jones.

 

Food Truck Tuesdays

 

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 11 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: FIRST BAPTIST NASHVILLE

Join First Baptist Nashville for Food Truck Tuesdays. Trucks will be stationed at 7th Avenue South and Demonbreun, facing the Music City Center. Seating available. The event will take place every Tuesday through the month of October. Trucks scheduled for Tuesday, October 14 include Pappy's Mobile Cafe, Pita Pit, Dawg Daze and Moovers & Shakers.
