Spend your holidays downtown. Check out a list of events for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. Plus, each day offers tons of free events. Next week's edition of this newsletter will feature Christmas Eve and Christmas Day events, and the following week's will be all about New Year's Eve. Events This Week


Musicians On Call Holiday Heroes Party with The Script

 

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 7 PM
LOCATION: ANTHEM $35 GENERAL ADMISSION; $100 VIP

To honor some of Musicians On Call’s own heroes, the organization is partnering with 107.5 The River to bring international favorite The Script to Nashville to play an intimate performance at Anthem on Wednesday, December 17. The event will celebrate the organization’s dedicated volunteers as well as music industry supporters who give back to the cause. Musicians On Call is a nonprofit that provides live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in hospitals across the country.

 

Handel's Messiah

A Nashville holiday tradition. Celebrate the season with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and Chorus as they perform one of the most inspiring works of music ever written. Handel’s masterpiece is full of passion, drama and passages of stunning beauty — the perfect way to usher in the Christmas holiday.

 

McKendree Daycare's Christmas Caroling

 

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 10:50 AM - 11:20 AM
LOCATION: MCKENDREE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH FREE

Nothing says Christmas like hearing a group of children sing "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Joy to the World." More than thirty of McKendree Daycare's 3, 4 and 5 year olds will sing from the church's steps as a way of ushering in the holiday season to the downtown community.

 

Holiday Concert: Vanderbilt Community Chorus

 

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, NOON - 12:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

The Vanderbilt Community Chorus will present a holiday concert in the library's courtyard gallery. Now in its 15th season, the chorus is comprised of faculty, staff, alumni, graduate students and friends of the university. Song selections will include holidays favorites such as "Deck the Halls," "Carol of the Bells" and "Hiney Mah Tov."

 

Night Market

 

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 5 PM - 8:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET FREE

Enjoy shopping, wine from the cash bar, live music, artisan booths, kids' activities and much more. Market House restaurants and shops will be open. Vendors in the farm sheds will sell local produce, meat, cheese, plants and more. This event's theme is "a very merry Night Market" and will incorporate a holiday theme.

 

Ugly Christmas Sweater Challenge

 

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 9 PM - 11:30 PM
LOCATION: THE SMITH HOUSE $10

Wear your ugliest Christmas sweater and enjoy an evening of live music by local blues and roots favorite Stacy Mitchhart along with his band. All proceeds will be donated to Hands On Nashville. Plus, another chance to catch this event on Sunday, December 21 at Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar.

 

Holiday Concert: The Providence Consort

 

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

Founded in late 2011, The Providence Consort is a recorder trio plus keyboard. The group plays a wide range of music from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the early Baroque and Contemporary periods. Their repertoire includes classical pieces as well as folk songs, carols and current hits. Their popular Christmas concert at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts is a combination of secular and religious pieces.

 

Kelly Clarkson's Miracle on Broadway

 

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA $29.75 - $49.75

Kelly Clarkson's inaugural Miracle on Broadway benefit concert. The Grammy Award-winning star has tapped a lineup of celebrity artists including Reba, Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks, Ronnie Dunn, Kacey Musgraves, Paramore’s Hayley Williams, Charles Esten and Meghan Trainor to sing their versions of classic Christmas favorites. Plus, they will join Clarkson in performing original hits from her platinum-selling Christmas album, "Wrapped in Red." All proceeds will benefit four local charities.

 

Family Program: Letterpress Holiday Prints

 

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 21, NOON, 1 PM AND 2 PM
LOCATION: HATCH SHOW PRINT FREE

Kids will receive hands-on experience with letterpress in one of Hatch Show Print's most popular family programs. Participants will learn about letterpress printing from Hatch staff, then create their very own poster or holiday card using carved wood, linoleum and metal block images from the Hatch collection. For ages 5 and up and accompanying adults.

 

Carol-Candlelight Celebration

 

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 21, 7 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: FIRST BAPTIST NASHVILLE FREE

The First Baptist Nashville Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra will share the music of the season with exquisite arrangements of familiar carols along with extraordinary holiday classics. The celebration includes “Break Forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light,” “March of the Kings,” “Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella” and “Patapan."
