The Makers Series

The Makers Series brings together the best artists of "New Nashville" who do not necessarily fit one mold or genre. Young or old, new or seasoned, these artists rise above the movers and shakers of the industry and bring music back to the place where it began. Takes place the third Thursday of each month. This month features Joseph Aaron, Sam Burchfield, Wyatt Espalin and Jordan DePaul.

Jack's Tale: A Mythic Mountain Musical

Watch as Jack journeys to outfox the Old King, win the heart of Old King's daughter and carve out a brand new world with his own two hands. Inspired by the old-time tales and music of the Appalachians, Nashville Children's Theatre will present this authentic gem of a mountain musical beginning Thursday, February 19 - Sunday, March 8. Stand Up Throw Down

The First Tennessee African American Legislators

 

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

Tennessee State Museum will present the first of its free public programs presented throughout the spring with "The First Tennessee African American Legislators" on Saturday, February 21. Kathy Lauder, a retired researcher from the Tennessee State Library and Archives, will be the featured speaker.

 

2015 LEGO Contest

 

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21 - SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22, SATURDAY: 2 PM - 5 PM; SUNDAY: 2 PM - 4 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

View all of the 2015 LEGO contest entries at the Nashville Public Library on Saturday, February 21 - Sunday, February 22. This annual contest allows participants of all ages to use their skills to build their most creative LEGO designs. Plus, an awards ceremony will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, February 22.

Jazz on the Move

 

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 3 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

The Nashville Jazz Workshop, in collaboration with the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, presents the ninth season of the popular jazz performance and education series, Jazz on the Move. Each installment features a lecture and performance highlighting a major figure or period in jazz history. Presented by Nashville’s top jazz artist and educators, the series offers audiences world class music as well as an opportunity to learn more about jazz. This series will continue into April with an event each month. The Sunday, February 22 event will pay tribute to Billie Holliday and feature Connye Florance.

 

8 off 8th: Road to Bonnaroo

Road to Bonnaroo brings Nashville's indie bands and music fans together for the seventh consecutive year to select three homegrown artists ready to represent the city's bustling music scene on a national stage at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in June. Featuring DeRobert and the Half-Truths, Koa, Sol Cat, Elise Davis, Tesla Rossa, The Future and more. Held on two stages at both Mercy Lounge and the High Watt.

 

Beginner's Sushi-Making Class

 

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 6 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET $59/PERSON OR $75/COUPLE

Learn how to make sushi rice and sushi rolls, decorate a sushi platter and use chopsticks. Kumi Alderman, organizer of the Knoxville Asian Festival, will teach this special class on Japanese food and culture in partnership with the Tennessee Asian Culture Center.
