Southern Word Grand Slam Semifinal

 

FRIDAY, MARCH 6, 5 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

Join the Frist Center for the Visual Arts as the region’s top youth poets, emcees and spoken word artists compete for top lyrical honors, a chance to appear at the statewide finals and a shot to travel to the Brave New Voices Festival slated for Atlanta this summer. Nashville Cats: Salute to Bassist Michael Rhodes

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's quarterly program series Nashville Cats: A Celebration of Music City Musicians returns Saturday, March 7 with renowned bassist Michael Rhodes. The event will include an in-depth, one-on-one interview hosted by Bill Lloyd featuring vintage recordings, photos and film clips. Following the event, Rhodes will sign limited edition Hatch Show Print posters commemorating the day.

"Igniting Voices" Speaker Series

New Hope Academy, a nonprofit that has helped young students overcome adversity for more than 20 years, is presenting a national speaker series focused on offering diverse perspectives on life, learning and changing the culture of poverty. Dr. Ben Carson, a retired pediatric neurosurgeon and author, will deliver the inaugural address of the series on Tuesday, March 10 at the Music City Center. Ticket price also includes dinner.

 

Concert with The Providence Players

The Providence Players, an ensemble of musicians who play the recorder and keyboard, will perform a variety of popular Irish songs in honor of the upcoming St. Patrick's Day holiday. 2015 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament: Fanfare

 

THURSDAY, MARCH 12 - SATURDAY, MARCH 14, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: 10 AM - 7 PM; SATURDAY: 10 AM - 5 PM
LOCATION: 5TH & DEMONBREUN FREE

The 2015 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament is coming to Bridgestone Arena Wednesday, March 11 - Sunday, March 15! The games may be sold out, but enjoy all of the excitement at Fanfare. The three-day festival will feature live music from 11 am - 4 pm daily. Plus, interactive games, displays, interviews with this year's SEC Legends, food and drinks, and more! Free and open to the public, this event will take place on 5th Avenue South and Demonbreun - in front of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Musuem. Please note: road closures associated with this event! Demonbreun (4th Avenue South to 6th Avenue South) and 5th Avenue South (Korean Veterans Boulevard to Broadway) will be closed beginning Monday, March 9 until Sunday, March 15 at 5 pm.
 

 

Nashville Reads Kick-off

LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

Join Mayor Karl Dean, author Ruta Sepetys and other special guests for the Nashville Reads kick-off in the lobby of the Main Library. Guests will receive a free copy of "Between Shades of Gray" to take home. Nashville Reads is a way of bringing the entire city together to read great literature in an attempt to broaden the literary horizons of the city and open up a forum for discussion.

 

 

Road Closure Reminder: Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Expo

THROUGH TUESDAY, MARCH 10

The Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Expo is a private event to be held at the Music City Center Wednesday, March 4 - Saturday, March 7. As North America’s largest indoor-outdoor products show, the event will attract more than 350 exhibitors and 8,000 attendees. Please note: road closures associated with this event. 5th Avenue South (Korean Veterans Boulevard to Demonbreun) and Demonbreun (4th Avenue South to 5th Avenue South) will be closed beginning as early as 6 am on Thursday, February 26 until as late as midnight on Tuesday, March 10. Click here for additional information. NOTE: Demonbreun will continue to be closed through Sunday, March 15 due to the SEC Basketball Fanfare.

Volunteers Needed! 

The 12th Annual Live it Up! Downtown Home Tour is Sunday, April 12 from 1 pm - 6 pm. More than 100 volunteers are needed. Duties include checking tickets and guiding attendees to the units on display. Volunteers will receive one free tour ticket ($10 value) and a t-shirt.
