Interstate 40 Closures: Friday, October 2 - Monday, October 5
TDOT's Fast Fix 8 continues this weekend! I-40 will be closed from the I-40/I-65 split west of downtown to the I-40 split south of downtown. Clinton Street will be closed from 11th Avenue to 14th Avenue. 12th Avenue North will be closed from Jo Johnston Avenue to Herman Street. Closures begin Friday, October 2 at 8 pm and end Monday, October 5 at 6 am. Detours and more info can be found on the Fast Fix 8 website. NOTE: Use the 2nd Ave/4th Ave exit to access downtown from I-40.​

James Beard Award-winning restaurant critic and former Gourmet magazine editor-in-chief Ruth Reichl will discuss her new book, "My Kitchen Year: 136 Recipes That Saved My Life." The book chronicles her life just after Gourmet magazine went under in 2009. A limited number of tickets will be available on-site 30 minutes before show time on the event date. Advance tickets are limited. To receive a priority spot in the signing line, you must purchase a copy of the author’s latest book from Parnassus Books.

 

Dabble Studio's Grand Opening

Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto

World-renowned classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco makes his first-ever appearance at the Schermerhorn on American composer Jonathan Leshnoff’s "Guitar Concerto," a Nashville Symphony co-commission that will be recorded live in Laura Turner Concert Hall. Lauded by the Washington Post for her “poetic and sensitive” piano playing, Joyce Yang is the perfect complement to the Nashville Symphony on Tchaikovsky’s vivacious "First Piano Concerto," one of the most instantly recognizable pieces in the classical repertoire. Plus, a free classical conversation one hour before show time and an informal question-and-answer session following the concert.

 

AIDS Walk & 5K Run

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, REGISTRATION: 10 AM; WALK/RUN: 11 AM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE 5K RUN: $30 - $35; WALK: FREE

The 24th annual Nashville AIDS Walk & 5K Run raises money and awareness for the fight against HIV and AIDS. Multi-platinum country music artist Ty Herndon is the 2015 AIDS Walk & 5K Run Honorary Chair. Post-walk/run activities will include music, a community and business fair, an awards ceremony and food trucks. Kids and pets welcome. Please note: road closures associated with this event. The route begins and ends at Union Street and 2nd Avenue North, traveling across the river to surrounding Nissan Stadium streets. Roads along the route will be closed as early as 7 am until as late as 12:30 pm on Saturday, October 3. Click here for the route.

 

Nashville Brew Festival

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, NOON - 4 PM
LOCATION: FIRST TENNESSEE PARK $40 GENERAL ADMISSION; $50 VIP

The inaugural Nashville Brew Festival will take place on the field and throughout the concourse of First Tennessee Park on Saturday, October 3. The event will feature more than 50 breweries, including Nashville’s best breweries, as well as food trucks, music, lawn games and more. Both general admission ($40) and VIP ($50) will include unlimited beer, with VIP attendees having early admission and access to specialty beer poured during the first hour. Food sold separately.

 

First Saturday Art Crawl

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: 5TH AVENUE OF THE ARTS FREE

Art galleries throughout downtown host receptions and art openings every month. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. See this month's gallery map. Enjoy live music on the performance platforms along 5th Avenue North by Storm Kings and Serenatta. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams will also be on-site. Plus, two "pop up" events along 5th Avenue North: InFlux "Pop Up" Gallery and a NowPlayingNashville.com Artober Nashville booth. Two Gray Line art crawl trolleys will provide complimentary shuttle service along the route from 6 pm - 10 pm. Please note: road closure associated with this event. The southbound lane on 5th Avenue North (Church Street to Union Street) will be closed beginning as early as 5 pm and ending as late as 9 pm on Saturday, October 3. Participating galleries in this month's crawl include:

An Evening with Poets from The Contributor

Third Man Books is partnering with The Contributor to bring you a joint book release and event featuring poets who are both current and former vendors of The Contributor. Donate $20 or more and receive a copy of Third Man Books' new chapbook "Acknowledge: An Anthology of Selected Poems from The Contributor." Refreshments will be provided. Author Talk & Book Signing with Bud Alley

The Tennessee State Museum will present an author talk and book signing with Jesse “Bud” Alley, who penned a novel about his personal experiences during the Vietnam War. Alley's new book is entitled "The Ghost of the Green Grass."

 

Jazz on the Cumberland

Enjoy Jazz on the Cumberland in the park's amphitheater. Sunday, October 4 will feature live music by the Dynamo Band. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome at this event.

 

Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony

Miranda Lambert, Steve Cropper, E.W. "Bud" Wendell and Johnny Cash will receive stars on the Music City Walk of Fame during an induction ceremony on Tuesday, October 6 at 2 pm in Walk of Fame Park. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Courtyard Concerts: Revolfusion

Nashville Art Walk

Create your own custom walking tour of downtown Nashville! Our Nashville Art Walk features over 80 downtown destinations. Personalize the tour so it features places of interest to you: architecture, art, history, music, government and more. A map with distance information and the estimated route time will be generated after you make your selections. The Tennessean's Ms. Cheap profiled this free tour in her column.

Burn Calories, Not Gas

Get your heart pumping and take advantage of the lovely fall temperatures with Nashville B-cycle! There are 272 bright red bikes located at 31 B-stations around Nashville. The $5 access pass includes an unlimited number of rides that are 60 minutes or less for 24 hours. The 7-day pass is only $10 and an annual membership is $50. TIP: keep all rides under 60 minutes to avoid overage fees. B-cycle has a responsive website and an app.
