Downtown Employee Appreciation Week continues!

New restaurant: The Italian Kitchen!
217 4th Avenue North. 615-200-0202. This new restaurant is open for lunch, dinner and late night eats. They serve pizza, sandwiches, salads, pasta, calzones, stromboli and more. Hours of operation are Monday - Thursday, 10 am - 11 pm; Friday - Saturday, 11 am - 4 am; and Sunday, noon - midnight.
 

New dentist: Gulch Dental Studio!
Gulch Crossing. 244 11th Avenue South. 615-334-0184. This new option for dental services is located in Gulch Crossing. Hours of operation are Monday - Thursday, 8 am - 5 pm and Friday, 8 am - 2 pm.
 

Interstate 40 Closures: Friday, October 9 - Monday, October 12
TDOT's Fast Fix 8 continues this weekend! I-40 will be closed from the I-40/I-65 split west of downtown to the I-40 split south of downtown. Clinton Street will be closed from 11th Avenue to 16th Avenue. 12th Avenue North will be closed from Jo Johnston Avenue to Herman Street. Closures begin Friday, October 9 at 8 pm and end Monday, October 12 at 6 am. Detours and more info can be found on the Fast Fix 8 website. NOTE: Use the 2nd Ave/4th Ave exit to access downtown from I-40.​

Noteably Nashville

 

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8 - MONDAY, OCTOBER 12, 7 PM

Noteably Nashville is a five-day fashion event highlighting a diverse array of the arts in Nashville. The event will take place at various venues across Nashville with the goal of bringing together visual artists, fashion designers and musicians for a good cause. Downtown locations include George Jones Museum, Nashville Children's Theatre and John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge. VIP tickets include entry each night and feature a nightly meet and greet with designers, musicians and artists as well as special seating.

 

Al Menah Temple Shrine Circus

 

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8 - SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11, SHOW TIMES VARY BY DATE
LOCATION: NASHVILLE MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM $9 - $28

The Al Menah Temple Shrine Circus is back at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium—a fun family adventure for all ages. Plus, join the pre-party one hour before show times. For a small additional fee, ride an elephant or pony, get your face painted, and meet circus stars up close and in person.

 

Nashville Predators vs. Carolina Hurricanes

 

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8, 7 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA $32 - $300

Cheer on the Nashville Predators at the first home game of the 2015 - 2016 regular season as they host the Carolina Hurricanes! Plus, join Nashville Predators players, coaches and broadcast personalities as they walk the Nashville Predators Goldwalk at 4 pm. Following the Goldwalk, the Bridgestone Arena plaza will open for a Plaza Party, which will run until the start of the game at 7 pm. All fans in attendance for Thursday’s game will receive a Gold jersey rally towel.

 

Preds, Pizza & Peronis

On Nashville Predators' game days, Trattoria Il Mulino will host Preds, Pizza & Peronis. From 5 pm - 6:30 pm, fans can enjoy their choice of pizza from the wood fired oven and one Peroni beer for $15.

 

Nashville Farmers' Market Farmhand Dinner

 

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET $75

This third annual event will feature innovative and delicious interpretations of a traditional farmhand dinner, a time when farm workers would come together to celebrate a successful day in the fields. The evening is inspired by fifth generation NFM farmer Troy Smiley of Smiley's Farm along with the culinary talents of more than 15 local chefs. The event will begin with a traditional farmhand "water break" with signature cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The dinner portion will include select wine pairings with farmhand-style dinner service and live music.

Enjoy a gathering of up to 20 local food trucks parked along Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North. This event takes place every other Thursday through the fall.

 

Autograph Party with Willie Moseley

Journalist Willie Moseley is renowned for his contributions to Vintage Guitar magazine, his biographies of guitar pioneer Bill Carson and astronaut Stuart Roosa, and his tribute to electric basses, "The Bass Space." Join Moseley for an autograph party to celebrate his new book, "Peavey Guitars: The Authorized American History."

 

Southern Festival of Books

LOCATION: WAR MEMORIAL BUILDING & LEGISLATIVE PLAZA FREE

Now in its 27th year, the Southern Festival of Books is a free, three-day celebration of the written word that provides book-loving guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with their favorite authors. This year's roster includes renowned authors Rick Bragg, Geraldine Brooks, Pat Conroy, David Maraniss, Paul Theroux, Rebecca Wells, Scott Westerfeld and first-time author David Gregory, former NBC news reporter and "Meet the Press" host. Click here for the full schedule of authors and activities.

 

Light the Night Walk

 

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, PRE-WALK FESTIVITIES: 5:30 PM; WALK: 7:30 PM
LOCATION: NISSAN STADIUM FREE

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 16th annual fundraising event to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Participants raise funds for lifesaving research and patient services and, on this night, carry illuminated balloons to show support. Plus, live music, kids' activities, "Be The Match" donor drive and a remembrance ceremony. Pre-walk festivities begin at 5:30 pm, and the walk starts at 7:30 pm. The two-mile walk begins and ends near the north entrance of Nissan Stadium. A fireworks show will "light the night" and end the event. ABC "Nashville" star Charles Esten is the 2015 Light the Night honorary chairman and will be in attendance. Plus, check out the second annual Light the Late Night special concert at 3rd and Lindsley featuring Esten and friends following the event ($50). Please note: road closures associated with this event. Roads along this course will be closed beginning at 7:30 pm and are rolling closures. All roads will re-open by 8:30 pm.

 

Charles Esten & Friends: Light the Late Night

 

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, 10 PM
LOCATION: 3RD AND LINDSLEY $50

Following the Light the Night Walk at Nissan Stadium, join Charles Esten of ABC's "Nashville" and several of his musician friends for a special show at 3rd and Lindsley. All proceeds will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

 

Hands On Creativity

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10 - SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11, 9 AM - 4 PM
LOCATION: PLAZA ARTIST MATERIALS & PICTURE FRAMING FREE

The fifth annual Hands On Creativity is a two-day, family-friendly event allowing attendees to explore and learn all about art materials and how to use them. The event will feature more than 30 tables of free demonstrations as well as workshops, samples, door prizes and more.

 

Nashville Symphony's Free Day of Music

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10, 11 AM - 9 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER FREE

The entire community is invited to the Schermerhorn Symphony Center to enjoy free musical performances all day long and into the night. The 10th annual Free Day of Music will feature more than 20 musical acts throughout the day on four stages performing classical, country, rock, jazz, world music and much more. Plus, a kids' zone featuring an instrument petting zoo, crafts, photo booth and more. Music City Bacon & Barrel Festival

Celebrate two commonly appreciated Southern traditions: hearty food and distilled spirits. The event will feature 25 of Nashville’s best restaurants putting out their best bacon and BBQ dishes as well as a vast array of distilled spirits to savor. Participating downtown restaurants include Cantina LaredoCity Winery, Commerce Street GrilleThe District Bar and Kitchen and Peg Leg Porker. Plus, live music and a cash bar (tickets include 15 bourbon samples).

 

Artist’s Perspective: Shinique Smith: Wonder and Rainbows

LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS GALLERY ADMISSION REQUIRED

New York–based artist Shinique Smith is widely acclaimed for her highly expressive paintings, sculptures and installations. The assemblages of used clothing and everyday objects, which often interact with energetic brushwork, reflect her personal history as well as broader cultural concerns. In this lecture, Smith will provide insight into her artistic practice and the myriad sources of inspiration from which she draws, ranging from graffiti to poetry to Eastern philosophies.

 

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

 

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10, REGISTRATION 7:30 AM; START TIME 9 AM
LOCATION: NISSAN STADIUM FREE

Join the fight against breast cancer in this 4.5-mile, non-competitive fundraising walk benefiting the American Cancer Society. A 2-mile shortcut is also available. This walk honors and celebrates breast cancer survivors and supports the organization’s mission to save lives by finding cures and fighting back against the disease. Please note: road closures associated with this event. Roads along this course will be closed beginning at 8 am and are rolling closures. All roads will re-open by 11 am.

 

Monster Sundays

 

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11, DOORS OPEN: 6:30 PM; MOVIE BEGINS: 7:30 PM
LOCATION: YAZOO BREWING COMPANY AND TAPROOM FREE
