Pioneer Gentlemen's Barber Grand Opening

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 - SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18; THURS & FRI: 8 AM - 8 PM; SAT: 9 AM - 6 PM; SUN: NOON - 5 PM
LOCATION: PIONEER GENTLEMEN'S BARBER FREE

Pioneer Gentlemen's Barber, a new upscale barbershop in The Gulch, is celebrating its grand opening with a long weekend of specials. The celebration begins Thursday, October 15 with free haircuts from 8 am - 4 pm with a minimum $20 donation to Gilda's Club Nashville. First come, first served. An open house will follow from 5 pm - 8 pm with a barbershop quartet, ribbon cutting, drawings, and food and beverages provided by local vendors. This event is open to the public, but attendees are encouraged to RSVP in advance here. Throughout the weekend, first-time customers will receive a free service with their first regularly priced haircut and a 10% discount on featured product lines. As always, customers will receive a token for a complimentary draft beer from The Pub Nashville.

 

The Best of Broadway

It’s a night of smash-hit tunes from "Chicago," "Phantom of the Opera," "Wicked," "Gypsy," "A Chorus Line" and many more—all featuring the Nashville Symphony! Acclaimed Broadway music director Todd Ellison, whose credits include "Annie," "42nd Street" and Monty Python’s "Spamalot," brings three amazing star vocalists from the Great White Way to Music City.

 

YP Nashville Connect

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
LOCATION: ROCKETOWN FREE

This after-hours networking event is an opportunity for young professionals to get connected and involved in the Nashville area. Booths will be staffed by members of more than 25 young professional organizations that belong to YP Nashville. Attendees can learn about the benefits and offerings of each organization. Plus, door prizes, appetizers and complimentary valet parking. Bring business cards.

 

Sips & Stanzas: Waiting in the Wings: African Americans in Country Music

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15, 6 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: RENAISSANCE NASHVILLE HOTEL FREE

African American musicians have made a significant impact with pioneers such as Charlie Pride, Ray Charles and The Pointer Sisters. A panel of guests will remember those that paved the way and celebrate the rising African American stars of country music. Guests on the panel include Joy Styles, Damien Horne and more. Appetizers and drink specials will be available. This event is free, but you must reserve your ticket in advance.

 

Harvest Festival

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16 - SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18, FRIDAY: 5 PM - 9 PM; SATURDAY & SUNDAY: 11 AM - 3 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET FREE

Enjoy shopping, wine from the cash bar, live music, artisan booths, kids' activities and much more at this event held on the third Friday of each month. Market House restaurants and shops will be open. Vendors in the farm sheds will sell local produce, meat, cheese, plants and more. Farmers, food artisans, restaurants and merchants will feature pumpkin-themed dishes, items and recipes. Plus, on Saturday and Sunday, live music, special contests, food demonstrations, adult beverages, classes and more will continue with the pumpkin theme. Tennessee History Festival

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16 - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, 10 AM - 4 PM
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL FREE

The 12th annual Tennessee History Festival features living historians portraying everything from 1700s Cherokee to WWI soldiers. Demonstrations and activities include historical programming, black-powder firing demonstrations, a kids' activity tent and speeches by famous Tennesseans.

 

Walk to End Alzheimer's

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, REGISTRATION: 8 AM; CEREMONY: 9 AM; WALK: 9:30 AM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. The walks are held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide. While there is no fee to register, each participant is encouraged to fundraise in order to contribute to the cause and raise awareness. Registration begins at 8 am, the ceremony is at 9 am and the walk begins at 9:30 am. The walk begins and ends at Public Square.

 

Free Family Festival Day

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18, 1 PM - 5:30 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FREE

Bring your family and friends for a day filled with creativity, art-making, live music and exciting performances. The Family Festival Day will celebrate the exhibit "Ink, Silk and Gold: Islamic Art from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston" and will feature activities that span the geographical and cultural diversity of the Islamic world.

Margaret Atwood will discuss her new book, "The Heart Goes Last." A limited number of tickets will be available on-site 30 minutes before show time on the event date. Advance tickets are limited. To receive a priority spot in the signing line, you must purchase a copy of the author’s latest book from Parnassus Books.

Musicians On Call: Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride & Reba

Musicians On Call is kicking off its first-ever four city Rock The Room Tour in Nashville with some of the biggest names in music including Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Reba and other special guests. The tour was created to not only help raise funds for Musicians On Call in order to continue making a difference in the lives of patients through music, but also to celebrate all of those who have had a hand in making the organization what it is today.

This event will take place in the Hume Fogg High School Auditorium. Please note: this "Salon Special Edition" is a paid, ticketed event. Tickets are $30 and include a copy of her latest book.

 

Tootsie's 55th Birthday Bash

Tootsie's Orchid Lounge will celebrate its 55th birthday with a free Broadway street party! Live music all day by Terri Clark (performing and hosting), Randy Houser, Trick Pony, Michael Ray, Amanda Watkins, Chase Bryant, LoCash, Confederate Railroad and other surprise guests. Please note: road closures associated with this event. Broadway (4th Avenue to 5th Avenue) will be closed from 3 am on Wednesday, October 21 until 5 am on Thursday, October 22.
