Interstate 40 Closures: Friday, November 6 - Monday, November 9

TDOT's Fast Fix 8 continues this weekend! I-40 will be closed from the I-40/I-65 split west of downtown to the I-40 split south of downtown. Charlotte Avenue will be closed from 11th Avenue to 16th Avenue. 12th Avenue North will be closed from Clinton Street to Charlotte Avenue. Closures will begin Friday, November 6 at 8 pm and end Monday, November 9 at 6 am. Detours and more info can be found on the Fast Fix 8 website. NOTE: Use the 2nd Ave/4th Ave exit to access downtown from I-40.​

Enjoy a gathering of up to 20 local food trucks parked along Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North. This event takes place every other Thursday through December 3.

 

Lecture: Crime and Remembrance: Stories from Mexico’s Druglands

The human cost of the drug trade in Latin America has inspired some of the most haunting artwork in the exhibit "Phantom Bodies." The Frist Center and the Center for Latin American Studies at Vanderbilt University present a talk by Sam Quinones that will provide context to the themes of loss explored in "Phantom Bodies."

 

Bruckner's Romantic Symphony

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6 - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 8 PM

The Nashville Symphony will perform a breathtaking work from the Viennese symphonic master Anton Bruckner. A showcase for the Nashville Symphony’s horn section, Bruckner’s expansive “Romantic” Symphony will take listeners on a spectacular and adventurous journey through the Austrian countryside. American composer Michael Daugherty returns to Music City for the world premiere of his "Once Upon a Castle," a dazzling concerto that will feature the Schermerhorn’s Martin Foundation Concert Organ and soloist Paul Jacobs. Plus, a free classical conversation one hour before show time.

First Saturday Art Crawl

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 6 PM - 9 PM

Art galleries throughout downtown host receptions and art openings every month. Most galleries serve free wine and other refreshments. See this month's gallery map. Enjoy live music on the performance platforms along 5th Avenue North by Sonja Hopkins Band and a Rymer Gallery performance. Two Gray Line Art Crawl downtown trolleys will provide complimentary shuttle service along the route from 6 pm - 10 pm. Please note: road closure associated with this event. The southbound lane on 5th Avenue North (Church Street to Union Street) will be closed beginning as early as 5 pm and ending as late as 9 pm on Saturday, November 7. Participating galleries in this month's crawl include:

Jazz on the Cumberland

Enjoy Jazz on the Cumberland in the park's amphitheater. Sunday, November 8 is the 2015 series finale. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome at this event.

 

"Debt of Honor" Free Advance Film Screening

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

A preview screening of a new documentary film by six-time Emmy Award-winning director Ric Burns will be held at the Tennessee State Museum. "Debt of Honor: Disabled Veterans in American History" examines the way in which the American government and society as a whole have regarded disabled veterans throughout history. Following the film screening, there will be a panel discussion highlighting local stories of disabled veterans led by Dr. Lisa Budreau, the museum’s senior curator of military history.

 

Give Thanks

To help underprivileged families for the holidays in a creative way, Pastor G. Allen Jackson and the congregation at World Outreach Church have planned an evening to fill this season with hope and thanksgiving. This faith celebration features Pastor Jackson, John Maxwell, Martina McBride and Angus Buchan.

 

Taste

The Nashville LGBT Chamber of Commerce presents Taste. Get a taste of the culinary skills of some of Nashville's most talented chefs and finest restaurants. A variety of local breweries, wineries and distilleries will be serving up drinks on-site. Plus, live music, a silent auction and access to the museum. All tickets come with unlimited tastes of food and non-alcoholic beverages. General admission tickets include one sample from each alcoholic beverage vendor. All access tickets include unlimited access to beverage samples and an open bar.

 

ZOOMA Nashville Women's 5K & Half Marathon

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8, RACE BEGINS: 8 AM
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL 5K: $75; HALF MARATHON: $125

Run an exciting women’s 5K or half marathon through downtown Nashville at this inaugural event. A scenic half marathon route takes you over the Cumberland River and through Shelby Bottoms. Finish at Bicentennial Mall with views of the Capitol. After the race, it's time to celebrate in the amphitheater at Bicentennial Mall at the after-party expo with wine, live music, shopping and recovery yoga. ZOOMA is a national women's race series created to inspire women to live healthy, happy and active lives. Please note: road closures associated with this event. Downtown closures include James Robertson Parkway (6th Avenue North to Charlotte), Rosa Parks Boulevard, Broadway, Woodland Street Bridge, surrounding Nissan Stadium streets, John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, 1st Avenue North (Broadway to Union) and Union. Bullets Over Broadway

"Bullets Over Broadway" is the hilarious musical comedy about the making of a Broadway show. Written by Woody Allen, "Bullets Over Broadway" is the story of a young playwright who, in desperate need of financial backing for his next show, accepts an offer he can’t refuse from a mobster looking to please his showgirl girlfriend. Loaded with big laughs, colorful characters and the songs that made the '20s roar, "Bullets Over Broadway" is bringing musical comedy back with a bang.

 

Veterans Day Parade

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 11:11 AM

This annual event is one of the South's largest Veterans Day parades. The family-friendly celebration honors Nashville's military community and includes floats, antique cars, local military groups and supporters, local businesses and charities, and nearby high schools' marching bands. The parade begins at 12th Avenue and Broadway and continues down to 3rd Avenue and Broadway. Please note: road closures associated with this event. Rolling road closures along Broadway from 18th Avenue to 3rd Avenue, plus portions of 3rd Avenue and other streets for staging and disbanding. Closures begin as early as 9:30 am and will finish as late as 1 pm on Wednesday, November 11.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 6:15 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

Chelsea Clinton will visit the Nashville Public Library to discuss her new book, "It's Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going." A book signing will follow the discussion. Plus, enjoy a reception with Next Chapter Society, a young professionals group supporting the initiatives of the Nashville Public Library Foundation, beginning at 5:30 pm. A limited number of tickets will be available on-site 30 minutes before show time on the event date. Advance tickets are limited. To receive a priority spot in the signing line, you must purchase a copy of the author’s latest book from Parnassus Books.

 

Reminder: Road Closures: 2015 CMA Awards

Several road closures are planned throughout downtown for the 2015 CMA Awards, which is tonight (Wednesday, November 5). This list is organized by the date the closures begin. The end date is different for each road and is indicated below. Most roads are closed for multiple days. All closures will be lifted by 6 pm on Sunday, November 8.

Monday, October 26:
- Fifth Avenue South (Demonbreun to the Hilton Nashville Downtown driveway) will be closed from Monday, October 26 to Friday, October 30 and Friday, November 6 to Sunday, November 8 from 6 am until 6 pm.

Saturday, October 31:
- Fifth Avenue South (Demonbreun to Broadway) will be closed from Saturday, October 31 at 6 am until 6 pm and Sunday, November 1 at 6 am until Thursday, November 5 at 6 am.

Sunday, November 1:
- Sixth Avenue South (Demonbreun to Broadway) will be closed from Sunday, November 1 at 6 am until Thursday, November 5 at 5 pm.
- The westbound lanes of Demonbreun (Fifth Avenue South to Sixth Avenue South) will be closed from Sunday, November 1 at 6 am until Thursday, November 5 at 4 am.

Monday, November 2:
- The eastbound lanes of Broadway (Fourth Avenue to Seventh Avenue) will be closed from Monday, November 2 at 9 pm until Tuesday, November 3 at 2 am.

Tuesday, November 3:
- The westbound lanes of Demonbreun (Fourth Avenue South to Fifth Avenue South) will be closed from Tuesday, November 3 at 9 am until Thursday, November 5 at 2 am.

Wednesday, November 4:
- Demonbreun (Fourth Avenue South to Eighth Avenue South) will be closed from Wednesday, November 4 at 6 am until Thursday, November 5 at 2 am.
- Fifth Avenue South and Sixth Avenue South (Korean Veterans Boulevard to Demonbreun) will be closed from Wednesday, November 4 at 6 am until Thursday, November 5 at 2 am.
- Seventh Avenue South (Demonbreun to Broadway) will be closed from Wednesday, November 4 at 6 am until Thursday, November 5 at 2 am.
- McGavock (Seventh Avenue South to Eighth Avenue South) will be closed from Wednesday, November 4 at 6 am until Thursday, November 5 at 2 am.
- The westbound curb lane on Fourth Avenue South (Demonbreun to Broadway) will be closed from Wednesday, November 4 at 6 am until Thursday, November 5 at 2 am.
