A Christmas Story

Nashville's all-American holiday tradition celebrates its seventh anniversary. Humorist Jean Shepherd's memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his unflappable campaign to get Santa (or anyone else) to give him a "legendary official Red Ryder carbine-action 200 shot range-model air rifle."

 

Nashville's Nutcracker

Nashville’s version of the timeless holiday classic returns for the eighth consecutive year, with more than 200 dancers per performance taking audiences on a fantastic journey through a dreamland filled with beloved characters. Visit magical lands with the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Mouse King, the Nutcracker, the Dancing Bear and many historic characters from Nashville’s past.

 

Merry Market

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10, NOON - 3 PM
LOCATION: CREATIVE ARTISTS AGENCY FREE TO ATTEND

Nashville's inaugural Merry Market hosted by The Creative Arts Agency! This event will showcase a majority of local Nashville social enterprises who will "set up shop" to sell their products just in time for the holiday season. All proceeds will go to charity. Pay-for-parking is located below the building in the SunTrust Garage or in various lots and garages surrounding the building.

 

Curator's Tour: Phantom Bodies: The Human Aura in Art

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10, NOON
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS GALLERY ADMISSION REQUIRED

Join the Frist Center’s chief curator as he explores key works from "Phantom Bodies: The Human Aura in Art" while connecting them to the larger concepts of loss, spiritual transformation and emotion.

 

Holiday Birthday Bash

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12, 6 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE BREW WORKS $30 IN ADVANCE; $40 AT THE DOOR

Tennessee Brew Works is turning two! Celebrate the occasion at this holiday bash, which includes a special beer pairing menu and an open bar.

 

Glitter and Bling

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: TPAC - TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER $27.50 - $47.50

Add some sparkle to your holidays with "Glitter and Bling," a dazzling concert by Nashville in Harmony. Under the direction of Artistic Director Don Schlosser, the 140-voice chorus reaches new heights of musical brilliance with new arrangements of holiday classics like "Let It Snow" and "Jolly Old St. Nicholas," plus a glimmering new version of the wildly popular song from "Frozen," "Let It Go." Expect lots of gorgeous music to warm your winter as well as a few fun surprises.

 

Opening Day: IntelliCentrics Ice Rink

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12, NOON - 4 PM 
LOCATION: WALK OF FAME PARK EVENT: FREE; ICE SKATING: $15 FOR ADULTS, $10 FOR KIDS

IntelliCentrics Ice Rink at Bridgestone Winter Park will host a grand opening ceremony. There will be activities in the park from noon - 4 pm (live music, face painting, a balloon artist, interactive hockey games, canned food drive). The event itself is free to attend. However, ice skating (including skate rental) is $15 for adults and $10 for children. Rental is good for an hour of ice time. The rink opens at 11 am on Saturday. The rink will be open for public skating through Sunday, January 31. Click here for the schedule. 

 

Holiday Concerts: The Ukedelics & The Nashville Belles

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12, 11 AM - 11:30 AM; 1 PM - 1:30 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

Nashville’s own ukulele band The Ukedelics will perform a holiday concert in the Courtyard Gallery from 11 am - 11:30 am. The Ukedelics are the performing extension of the Nashville Ukulele Society, a local club devoted to the tiny instrument. Plus, The Nashville Belles, an all-female a cappella group under the direction of Christina Watson, will sing beautiful four-part arrangements of holiday songs from 1 pm - 1:30 pm. Ford Community Day

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13, 9 AM - 5 PM
LOCATION: COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM FREE

For the seventh year, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is partnering with the Ford Motor Company Fund to present a FREE admission day as a "thank you" to the Middle Tennessee community for its support. Events include songwriter sessions, musical petting zoo for children, Hatch Show Print letterpress activity, group guitar lesson, square dance celebration, photos with Santa and much more.

 

Keyboards at Christmas

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13, 6 PM - 7:30 PM
LOCATION: FIRST BAPTIST NASHVILLE FREE

Six grand pianos, 528 keys, 24 hands, The Sanctuary Choir and some of First Baptist Nashville’s most talented instrumentalists will present Keyboards at Christmas on Sunday, December 13. All ages will delight at the sights and sounds of this festive musical evening and celebrate Christmas on a truly “grand” scale.

 

A Very Merry Christmas with Dave Barnes

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13, 7:30 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $29 - $64

Join singer/songwriter Dave Barnes as he returns to the Schermerhorn to perform holiday favorites old and new, including “Christmas Tonight,” “All I Want for Christmas is You,” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and more. Featuring visits from some very special guests, his holiday show has become a Nashville tradition.

 

Tuba Christmas Nashville

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 11 AM AND 12:30 PM
LOCATION: FIRST BAPTIST NASHVILLE FREE

A concert of Christmas carols featuring 100 tubas. Tuba and euphonium players from across the nation will play Christmas carols, first with instruments only and then with everyone singing along. The performances are approximately 45 minutes in length. Parking is free in the lot behind the church.

 

Handel's Messiah

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17, 7 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $26 - $109

It’s a Music City holiday tradition like none other! Celebrate the season as the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and Chorus perform one of the most inspiring works of music ever written. Handel’s "Messiah" is a true masterpiece, and Schermerhorn Symphony Center is the perfect venue to enjoy this piece brimming with passion, drama and passages of stunning beauty.

Express Bus Service to Airport

Traveling by air this holiday season? Save time and money by riding the Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority’s bus route to and from the airport.
