Southern Women's Show

The Southern Women’s Show returns for its 30th year in Nashville to the Music City Center on April 14-17, 2016. With more than 500 exhibits, the show is recognized as the premier event for women in Middle Tennessee and features everything important to women from fashion and accessories to health and fitness, home decor, family lifestyle and more. This shopping extravaganza will be jam-packed with trendy jewelry and handbags, makeup tips and tricks, delicious gourmet treats and more. Plus, runway fashion shows, cooking classes, educational programs and celebrity appearances.

LOCATION: CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL FREE

For the 10th anniversary of this popular annual event, more than 100 of Nashville's most accomplished musicians will fill Christ Church Cathedral with music by J.S. Bach, interpreted in traditional and innovative ways. Refreshments and souvenirs will be on sale in the Parish Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Night Market

LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET FREE

Relax and unwind at the spring Night Market! Enjoy live jazz music, seasonal cocktails, wine, craft beer, local artisan booths, plenty of dinner options from Market restaurants and more. Plus, food trucks and other vendors will be outside under the Farm Sheds. Enjoy all the inside fun, and dine and shop under the stars too.

 

Over the Edge Nashville

FRIDAY, APRIL 15, 9 AM - 5 PM
LOCATION: OMNI NASHVILLE HOTEL REGISTRATION: $50; SPECTATORS: FREE

Participants, known as "edgers," register and then fundraise in order to earn the chance to rappel down the side of the Omni Nashville Hotel. The first 70 participants reaching the $1,000 milestone will earn a slot on the ropes on Friday, April 15. On the ground, a DJ will announce folks coming down. Plus, the event will feature music, good eats by local food trucks and more. This is a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee. 

 

​WalknBike Kick-off Meeting

FRIDAY, APRIL 15, NOON - 1:30 PM

The Strategic Plan for Sidewalks and Bikeways Steering Committee and project team invites you to attend a meeting to learn about the update process, provide feedback and get involved in the yearlong update now known as WalknBike. Nashville residents are encouraged to visit the new WalknBike website, attend the kick-off meeting and also take a survey about their thoughts on Nashville’s sidewalk and bikeways network. Mayor Megan Barry will kick off the meeting with remarks on the project. Representatives from Metro Public Works and the consultant team will present a project background, survey results and trends, and lead a discussion with the public.

 

Walk for Wishes

SATURDAY, APRIL 16, WALK BEGINS: 9 AM
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL FREE

Bringing hope, strength and joy to children battling life-threatening medical conditions in the community is as easy as lacing up your walking shoes. Join Walk for Wishes 2016 on Saturday, April 16. This family-friendly walk is where kids, volunteers and community members can come together in support of the Make-A-Wish mission. Please note: road closures associated with this event. Sixth Avenue North and 7th Avenue North (Harrison Street to Jefferson Street ) will be closed from approximately 7:30 am - 11 am. Harrison Street (7th Avenue North to 5th Avenue North), 5th Avenue North (Harrison Street to Jefferson Street) and Jefferson Street (5th Avenue North to 7th Avenue North) will be closed from approximately 8:30 am - 10:30 am.

 

NPT's Indie Lens Pop-Up: The Armor of Light

SATURDAY, APRIL 16, 2 PM

Indie Lens Pop-Up, presented by the Independent Television Service, Independent Lens and Nashville Public Television, offers a free advance screening of "The Armor of Light," filmmaker Abigail E. Disney’s documentary about combating gun violence, on Saturday, April 16 at 2 pm. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Lucy McBath, national spokeswoman for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

 

Record Store Day at Third Man Records

SATURDAY, APRIL 16, 10 AM - 6 PM
LOCATION: THIRD MAN RECORDS

Celebrate Record Store Day at Third Man Records! Enjoy an all-day punk serenade by Nashville's brightest up-and-comers beginning at 11 am featuring Datenight, Cat Flaps and Faux Ferocious. Man or Astro-man? will take the stage later for an early evening show ($10). Plus, Record Store Day will feature a Patio Breakfast followed by Patio Grill Out in the afternoon with adult beverages and guest vendors with sweet treats, corn hole and ping pong competitions, and more.

 

An Evening with Make Music Nashville

SUNDAY, APRIL 17, 6 PM
LOCATION: YAZOO BREWING COMPANY AND TAPROOM $15 OVER 21; $10 UNDER 21

Join a diverse lineup of Nashville’s finest for an evening of quality local music and beer! All proceeds to benefit Make Music Nashville, an all-day, open-access, free 501(c)(3) nonprofit festival taking place in various neighborhoods in Nashville on June 21 every year. Also featured are silent auction packages from Hatch Show Print, the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville Symphony and more! Ticket price includes admission into the concert and a pint of the Yazoo beer of your choice.

 

Gallery Tour & Talk

Join the museum’s Senior Curator of Art and Architecture Jim Hoobler for a Gallery Tour & Talk at 2 pm on Sunday, April 17. The two art exhibits currently on view in the museum’s Changing Galleries — "Charles Cagle: The Shock of the New" and "Realism to Abstractionism: Tennessee Painting 1920 to 1970" — covers a period in art history where painters were exploring new techniques. The event is free. Reservations are not required.

 

Jazz on the Move

SUNDAY, APRIL 17, 3 PM

The Nashville Jazz Workshop, in collaboration with the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, presents the 10th season of the popular jazz performance and education series, Jazz on the Move. Each installment features a lecture and performance highlighting a major figure or period in jazz history. Presented by Nashville’s top jazz artist and educators, the series offers audiences world class music as well as an opportunity to learn more about jazz. This series concludes on Sunday, April 17 and will pay tribute Benny Golson featuring Roland Barber.

 

Inaugural Billy Block Day Reunion Concert & Nashville Spirit Awards

MONDAY, APRIL 18, 7 PM

This inaugural event will celebrate the memory and legacy of legendary Nashville promoter, drummer, and radio and TV host Billy Block. The concert will feature original members of the Billy Block Barn Dance house band from the 1996 launch of the weekly show at The Sutler, as well as songwriters and artists from every era of the Billy Block Show over the past 18 years. Plus, the event will include the launch of the Nashville Spirit Awards held in memory of Billy.

Trattoria Il Mulino Celebrates One Year

Battle of the Burger

Sips & Stanzas Presents The Rebirth of Jazz

The world is experiencing a rebirth of jazz and all that comes with it. This unique genre originating in African American communities in New Orleans during the late 19th century has evolved in numerous ways. The art of jazz, though difficult to define, has reemerged through festivals, song sampling and artists’ workshops. To celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month, join a discussion on the rebirth of jazz.
