Nashville Predators vs. Anaheim Ducks

 

THURSDAY, APRIL 21, 7 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA $40 - $385

The Nashville Predators opened the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs on the road Friday, April 15 against the Anaheim Ducks for game one of the seven-game series. Don't miss game four of the series at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday, April 21 at 7 pm. Limited tickets are still available. Each game of the first round playoff series between the Predators and Ducks is scheduled to be televised locally on FOX Sports Tennessee. In addition, each broadcast will also feature a 30-minute pre- and post-game show, Predators LIVE.

 

Kelsey Montague: What Lifts You

 

THURSDAY, APRIL 21, 5 PM - 6 PM

MarketStreet Enterprises has commissioned celebrated street artist and illustrator Kelsey Montague to paint a pair of large-scale, interactive wings in The Gulch as part of her #WhatLiftsYou movement. Montague has painted her wings across the country, inviting people to share their pictures posing with the wings along with a message explaining "What Lifts You." There will be a book signing at Two Old Hippies on Thursday, April 21 where Montague will sign copies of her recently published adult coloring book.

Performed by almost 300 artists, Nashville Ballet's "Carmina Burana" returns with one of the most recognizable pieces of music in the world. The Nashville Children’s Choir, the Nashville Symphony and Chorus, and featured guest vocalists will join Nashville Ballet dancers on stage for a production of epic proportions. Plus, "Carmina Burana" will be complemented by the premiere of Nashville Ballet's "Layla & The Majnun."

 

Artist Talk with Nina Covington

Join Corvidae Collective and host Paul Polycarpou, publisher of Nashville Arts Magazine, for an informative discussion with artist Nina Covington. Learn about her motivation for the "Machisma" series, the stories behind the images and more about why she choose Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence to receive a portion of the proceeds from all work in this series. Refreshments and appetizers at 3:30 pm, and the talk will begin at 4 pm. This is a free event, but you may donate to the cause.

 

The Bard’s Birthday Bash

Shakespeare will be turning 452 this month, and Nashville Shakespeare Festival is in the mood to celebrate! Join this beloved annual tradition as they celebrate the birthday of the Bard with an afternoon of festivities. From music to snacks to the popular Biggest Balcony Scene Ever, there's something for everyone—and William Shakespeare himself will even be in attendance! Join at 1 pm in the second floor courtyard. Jackalope’s 5th Birthday

LOCATION: JACKALOPE BREWING COMPANY FREE

Jackalope Brewing Company is turning 5, and they are throwing a party at the taproom to celebrate! In addition to its current taproom selection, they'll be debuting five new beers. The brewers will be on hand to answer all of your brewing questions and to share a pint with you. Jackalope will also be giving away five sets of tickets to Trampled By Turtles and The Devil Makes Three at Carl Black Chevy Woods Amphitheater on Saturday, May 7. Crafts & Drafts

LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET FREE

Crafts & Drafts hosted by the Nashville Scene is a curated exhibit and sale of handmade arts and crafts. Local craft beer vendors will be on site as well so you can sip as you shop. Plus, numerous food options will be available for purchase. Bring your gently used shoes to donate to Soles 4 Souls.

 

March for Babies

 

SATURDAY, APRIL 23, 9 AM
LOCATION: NISSAN STADIUM WALK: FREE (DONATIONS ENCOURAGED); RUN: $30

This three-mile walk, presented by March of Dimes, will raise funds to support babies' health. The walk is free for participants, but donations are encouraged. Plus, this is the first year of Run for Babies, a new 5K experience at March for Babies. Run for Babies is a timed 5K run that takes place before the walk, with runners starting at 9 am and walkers following in a second wave. There is a $30 adult registration fee for the run that includes a timing chip and shirt. Please note: road closures associated with this event. Closures include the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, 3rd Avenue South (John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge to Broadway), Broadway (3rd Avenue to 2nd Avenue), 2nd Avenue North (Broadway to Union Street), Woodland Street (Union Street to South 1st Street) and surrounding Nissan Stadium streets. Closures begin as early as 9 am and end as late as 10:30 am on Saturday, April 23.

 

RelayLIVE

RelayLIVE is a giveback musical festival launching its first year in the heart of Music City with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. On Saturday, April 23, hear from a long list of local talent, several Nashville cancer survivors, cancer researchers and other local celebrities. Performers include Alanna Royale, Stella James, Jordan DePaul and many more.

 

Free Family Festival Day

Bring your family and friends for a day filled with creativity, art-making, live music and exciting performances. Bounty Bev, The Bloomy Rind, Nashville Universe and Jackalope Brewing Company are teaming up with the Tennessee Respite Coalition for an event to raise awareness for family caregivers across Tennessee. In addition to a beer and cheese tasting, enjoy music by singer/songwriter Kristina Wrenn.

 

Fisk University: Sesquicentennial Scholarship Gala

Fisk University will host its Sesquicentennial Scholarship Gala at the Music City Center on Thursday, April 28 at 7 pm. Grammy Award-winning recording artist Wynonna Judd and the renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers will perform during the gala. Actress and Fisk Alumna Kym Whitley will serve as Mistress of Ceremony for the event, and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Eugene Robinson will serve as Keynote Speaker.

Large Attendance Alert: DECA International Career Development Conference

FRIDAY, APRIL 22 - TUESDAY, APRIL 26

Please be aware of the upcoming DECA International Career Development Conference April 22-26, 2016 held in the Music City Center and Bridgestone Arena. Expected attendance for the conference is 18,000 high school students, advisors, businesspersons and alumni. The attendees will be housed in more than 40 hotels around the city and will have a bus route system to transfer them back and forth from outlying areas to the Music City Center each day. The students will have ample free time to tour the city and network. Be advised of high demand for meal and entertainment options in the city. Please see the group overview to help you prepare for the large number of attendees.

Road Closure: American Bar Association Street Party

5th Avenue South (Korean Veterans Boulevard to Demonbreun) will be closed from 6 pm until 9 pm on Thursday, April 28 due to the American Bar Association Street Party (private event). Estimated attendance is 500.
