Old Crow Medicine Show Plays Blonde on Blonde

 

THURSDAY, MAY 12 - FRIDAY, MAY 13, 8 PM
LOCATION: COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM $34 - $39

Fifty years ago, Bob Dylan came to Nashville, joined forces with a gang of brilliant studio musicians and recorded "Blonde on Blonde," an album that whirled whimsy, poetry and psychedelic aggression into a sound that Dylan called “thin wild mercury.” That album solidified Nashville as an ecumenical Music City. For two nights at the CMA Theater, Grammy-winning Grand Ole Opry stringband Old Crow Medicine Show will perform Dylan’s masterful double-album, offering a unique spin on "Blonde on Blonde" in celebration of this half-century anniversary and of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s ongoing exhibit "Dylan, Cash, and the Nashville Cats: A New Music City."

 

Street Food Thursdays

Enjoy a gathering of up to 20 local food trucks parked along Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North every Thursday throughout the months of May and June!

 

Margarita Festival

 

FRIDAY, MAY 13, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: THE GULCH $35

Join the Nashville Scene for its fifth annual Margarita Festival. Enjoy food from local favorites and sample drinks from some of the city's best margarita makers. Vote for your favorite and a winner will be crowned at the end of the festival. Tickets include 15 margarita samples while DJs rock the block. Food will be available for purchase from Bar Louie, Texas De Brazil and Chuy's as well as a cash bar with full-sized drinks. The event will take place on Pine Street and 11th Avenue South.

 

​Ragnar Relay

 

FRIDAY, MAY 13 - SATURDAY, MAY 14

A 196-mile, team-oriented running event that will push participants through the birthplace of country music: Tennessee. Starting in Chattanooga, runners will hug the Tennessee River and head northwest. Teams will run, day and night, across the rolling hills of southern Tennessee. After the hills, runners will pass through historic Lynchburg. The race will wrap up when participants honky tonk their way to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. Please note: most runners should arrive downtown around 2 pm on Saturday, May 14. Estimated attendance is 4,000.

 

​Goodguys 10th Nashville Nationals Giant Car Show

 

FRIDAY, MAY 13 - SUNDAY, MAY 15, FRIDAY & SATURDAY: 8 AM - 5 PM; SUNDAY: 8 AM - 3 PM
LOCATION: NISSAN STADIUM $20 ADULTS; $6 AGES 7-12; 6 & UNDER FREE

This event showcases more than 2,500 candy-colored '72 and earlier hot rods, custom cars, muscle cars, trucks and classics. Plus, you don’t want to miss the Goodguys AutoCross timed racing competition, Nitro Thunderfest dragster exhibit, more than 150 vendor exhibits, a swap meet and cars for sale corral, live music featuring some of Nashville’s best local acts, a kids' zone, the crowning of the Goodguys 2016 Tanks Hot Rod of the Year and more.

 

PurpleStride Nashville 2016

 

SATURDAY, MAY 14, REGISTRATION: 6:30 AM; WALK/RUN BEGINS: 8 AM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE $30 - $35 ADULT; $15 - $20 YOUTH

Help support the fight against pancreatic cancer by participating in PurpleStride Nashville 2016. Stride with others who are just as passionate about finding a cure for pancreatic cancer and enjoy a timed 5K and family-friendly run/walk to honor and remember loved ones. Plus, kids' activities, music, refreshments and more. Please note: road closures associated with this event. The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, 2nd Avenue (Broadway to Union), the Woodland Street Bridge and surrounding Nissan Stadium streets will be closed as early as 8 am until as late as 9 am on Saturday, May 14. Click here for the complete route.

 

Picnic with the Library

LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FAMILY PACKAGES STARTING AT $200

In support of Nashville Public Library’s signature children’s programming, you're invited to join the inaugural Picnic with the Library! Held on Sunday, May 15 in the courtyard and newly remodeled children’s department, the event will offer families and kids of all ages an afternoon of picnic-style food, drinks, fun and entertainment. Activities include exclusive puppet performances by Wishing Chair Productions, music, crafts, face painting, a photo booth and more!

 

Concert with Cathedra

 

SUNDAY, MAY 15, 4 PM
LOCATION: CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL $15 ADULTS; $5 STUDENTS

On Sunday, May 15 at 4 pm, the Christ Church Cathedral Arts Series will close the 2015-2016 season with a concert by Cathedra. Performing Renaissance and Baroque music with a “beautiful, blended sound,” Cathedra is a highly skilled ensemble of professional singers and instrumentalists from Washington National Cathedral, directed by Michael McCarthy.

 

Makers: Women in War

 

SUNDAY, MAY 15, 2 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

A documentary on American women’s participation in war and the military from Vietnam to the present will be shown at a free screening on Sunday, May 15 at 2 pm at the Tennessee State Museum. Co-presented by Nashville Public Television, the film is entitled "Makers: Women in War" and is free. The film will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A featuring local female veterans.

 

Wild West Comedy Festival

 

MONDAY, MAY 16 - SUNDAY, MAY 22

The third annual Wild West Comedy Festival will take place at several venues across Nashville from Monday, May 16 - Sunday, May 22. Battle of the Burger

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 18, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
LOCATION: THE GULCH $20

Who will be deemed the 2016 Burger Champion? Watch your favorite restaurants battle it out in the live burger competition on Pine Street in The Gulch. Enjoy tasting each of the featured burgers and meeting some of Nashville's top chefs. Guests will also be asked to vote on the best burger. The winner of the evening's competition will be eligible for the 2016 World Food Championships! Participating downtown restaurants include Bar LouieBurger Republic, Frothy MonkeyKitchen Notes and Sambuca.
