Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman: Ricky Skaggs

The inaugural Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman series took place in 1994 at the then newly renovated Ryman Auditorium. Over the last 20 plus years, the series has become a Nashville summertime tradition as it regularly presents the biggest names in bluegrass on the very stage where the genre was born back in 1945. The 23rd annual series concludes on Thursday, July 28 with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder.

 

​Frist Fridays: The Revelers and Halfbrass

FRIDAY, JULY 29, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS FRIST MEMBERS: FREE; NON-MEMBERS: $12

Now in its 14th year, this exciting series takes place on the final Friday of June, July and August. Attendees are invited to enjoy an evening of live music, light snacks and beverages as well as the diverse exhibits on view in the Frist Center’s galleries. The opening night of "Women, Art and Social Change: The Newcomb Pottery Enterprise," an exhibit of the renowned New Orleans-based arts and craft venture, will be celebrated with the sounds of South Louisiana. Hailing from Lafayette, the Revelers combine swamp pop, Cajun, country and zydeco into an infectious medley of roots music. Halfbrass is a New Orleans-influenced quintet that mixes traditional brass band music with funk, jazz and rock. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Frist Fridays take place rain or shine.

 

Music City SUP Race

SATURDAY, JULY 30, 9 AM - NOON
LOCATION: EAST BANK GREENWAY $50 FOR 2-MILE RACE; $60 FOR 6-MILE RACE

The third Music City SUP Race returns to Nashville! This race welcomes paddle boarders, kayakers and prone paddlers to race in the heart of downtown Nashville. Pros and first-time racers welcome. The event launches from the East Bank of the Cumberland River, with lots of vendors helping kick off 2-mile and 6-mile races. Afterward, there will be an awards ceremony upstairs in the Cumberland River Compact River Center (inside The Bridge Building) and an after party. Proceeds from the race benefit the Cumberland River Compact, which works to protect our watershed.

 

The Westin Nashville Job Fair

TUESDAY, AUGUST 2, 9 AM - 6 PM
LOCATION: MUSIC CITY CENTER FREE

If you have a passion for people and service and you’re looking for a great new job opportunity, The Westin Nashville would like to meet you. Attend The Westin Nashville Job Fair where they will be conducting interviews on the spot for positions in the following departments: front office, culinary, food and beverage, banquets and engineering. This job fair will take place on Tuesday, August 2 and on Wednesday, August 10. The hours are 9 am - 6 pm on and the fair will be held in the Davidson Ballroom at the Music City Center.

 

Winemaker's Class - Summer Series: Flaws & Faults in Wine

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3, 6 PM - 7:30 PM
LOCATION: CITY WINERY $45

Swirl. Sniff. Sip. City Winery will guide you through the basics, all the way to advanced winemaking with an interactive, geeky, “research”-intensive wine course. They’ll share professional tips on what you really need to know about the vine, farming, fermenting grape juice and the winemaking process, as well as how to utilize your wine savvy in the real world. This session will provide a deeper understanding on how to detect a faulted wine. Wine faults can go way beyond corked wines. Discover the differences in this class. Light cheese and charcuterie included.

 

Road Closures

 

Road Closures: Beachbody Coach Summit

THURSDAY, JULY 28 - SATURDAY, JULY 30, VARIOUS TIMES

Several road closures are planned throughout downtown for the Beachbody Coach Summit (taking place Thursday, July 28 - Sunday, July 31). Events are not open to the public, but take place at downtown locations including Music City CenterBridgestone Arena, Walk of Fame Park and Lower Broadway. Expected attendance for events is as many as 24,000 people.

Roads and parks begin closing as early as 8 am on Thursday, July 28 and will re-open no later than noon on Saturday, July 30. This list is organized by the date the closures begin. The end date is different for each road and is indicated below. Most parks and roads are closed for multiple days.

Wednesday, July 27:
- Walk of Fame Park from 8 am on Wednesday, July 27 until noon on Saturday, July 30

Thursday, July 28:
- Court of Flags (1st Avenue and Broadway) from 8 am on Thursday, July 28 until noon on Saturday, July 30
- Broadway (2nd Avenue to 1st Avenue) from 8 am on Thursday, July 28 until noon on Saturday, July 30

Friday, July 29:
- 1st Avenue South (Demonbreun to Church Street) from 9 am on Friday, July 29 until noon on Saturday, July 30
- 5th Avenue South (Broadway to Korean Veterans Boulevard) from 9 am to 3 pm on Friday, July 29
- Demonbreun (4th Avenue South to 6th Avenue South) from 9 am to 3 pm on Friday, July 29

Election Day

The State Primary & County General Election for Davidson County is Thursday, August 4. Early voting is available through Saturday, July 30 at the Davidson County Election Commission (700 2nd Avenue South) and additional locations. Be sure to vote in this important election for our city and state!
