New restaurant: Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint!
410 4th Avenue S. 615-288-0880. This local BBQ restaurant's fourth Middle Tennessee location is in SoBro. Menu items include pork shoulder, beef brisket, smoked turkey, smoked chicken, redneck tacos and much more. Hours of operation are Monday - Sunday, 11 am to 10 pm.

Street Food Thursdays

THURSDAY, AUGUST 11, 11 AM - 2 PM

Enjoy a gathering of up to 20 local food trucks parked along Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North every Thursday through October.

 

Live on the Green: Andra Day

THURSDAY, AUGUST 11, 6:30 PM - 11 PM
LOCATION: PUBLIC SQUARE FREE

The season opener for the eighth annual concert series! This series brings local and national artists to the stage in Public Square, located in front of the Metro Courthouse. Blankets, folding chairs, strollers and water bottles are welcome at this free four-week concert series. The lineup for Thursday, August 11 includes White Denim, Allen Stone and Andra Day as the headliner. $10 parking is available in the Metro Courthouse parking garage, located directly below the park. Or, take advantage of free bicycle parking.‚Äč VIP Lounge ($75) and VIP Backstage ($150) tickets are available.

Please note: road closures associated with this event. 

- James Robertson Parkway (3rd Avenue North to Public Square parking entrance): one lane (eastbound traffic) will be closed beginning at 9 am, with the exception of 4 pm - 6 pm
- Union Street (3rd Avenue North to 1st Avenue North): one lane (westbound traffic) will be closed beginning at 9 am
- Woodland Street Bridge (Union Street to Nissan Stadium parking lots): at the discretion of Metro Police Department, one lane (westbound traffic) will be closed for use by pedestrian traffic beginning at approximately 4 pm - 5 pm
- Deaderick Street (3rd Avenue North to 5th Avenue North) will be closed beginning at 1 pm
- 3rd Avenue North (James Robertson Parkway to Union Street) will be closed beginning at 9 am

 

Vision: The Fine Art Photography of Benjamin Walls

SATURDAY, AUGUST 13, 2 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

Join internationally recognized artist Benjamin Walls as he presents “Vision," a program about conceiving what’s truly possible in art, design, business and life. Walls will incorporate the background story behind his most awarded works and share a glimpse of his vision for interior design, philanthropy, business and his artwork. The talk will be followed by a tour of his solo exhibit "Through Appalachian Eyes: The Fine Art Photography of Benjamin Walls" in the Changing Galleries.

 

An Art Deco Affair

SATURDAY, AUGUST 13, 6 PM - 8:30 PM
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS $50 FRIST MEMBERS; $75 NON-MEMBERS

Come celebrate the glamour and luxury of the Jazz Age with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live music and a chance to view "Bellissima! The Italian Automotive Renaissance, 1945–1975" and "Women, Art and Social Change: The Newcomb Pottery Enterprise." Guests are encouraged to wear black and white. All proceeds support the care of the Frist Center’s historic art deco building.

 

Making a Murderer's Dean Strang & Jerry Buting: A Conversation on Justice

SUNDAY, AUGUST 14, 7 PM
LOCATION: TPAC - TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER $39.50 - $95

Dean Strang and Jerry Buting, defense attorneys for Steven Avery in the Netflix documentary series "Making a Murderer," will come to TPAC on their "A Conversation on Justice" tour. The event will feature Strang and Buting in conversation about the Avery case and its broader implications, as well as a discussion on the larger topic of the American criminal justice system. The night will also feature a Q&A portion and the opportunity for the audience to address questions directly to Strang and Buting.

 

Yoga on the Bridge

TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, NOON - 1 PM
LOCATION: THE BRIDGE BUILDING $5

Yoga on the Bridge takes place on Tuesdays at the Cumberland River Center, located on the third floor of The Bridge Building. This lunchtime yoga session will rejuvenate your mind and body with an hour of vinyasa flow. This all-levels class overlooks one of the most spectacular views of the Cumberland River. Classes are held outside under the pavilion in Cumberland Park depending on weather.

 

Courtyard Concerts: Riders in the Sky

TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 11:45 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

The library's hit music series continues. Bring a lunch to the library courtyard and enjoy free music by top acts in many genres every Tuesday through October 4. Riders in the Sky will perform on Tuesday, August 16. Two-time Grammy-winning favorites Riders in the Sky have been living life the cowboy way for 38 years. They’re keepers of the flame passed on by the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. They revive and revitalize the genre, yet remain true to the integrity of Western music; they are now modern-day icons. You won’t want to miss their mix of Western music and wacky humor.

 

Wine on the Roof

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 17, 5:30 PM - 7 PM
LOCATION: WATERMARK $50 PER EVENT

Watermark is bringing the world’s finest wines to The Gulch with this event. Hosted on the third Wednesday of the month through September, each evening offers a tantalizing mix of wines and flavors. With four to five different wines representing a different country/region, you’ll get a rich offering of tastes. Plus, light appetizers will be provided. Tickets are available for $50 per person. Wine on the Roof guests can also dine at Watermark on the night of the event for a 15% discount. Call 615-254-2000 for tickets.
