Marine Week Nashville

THROUGH SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

From Wednesday, September 7 - Sunday, September 11, Marine Week Nashville will feature hands-on static displays, live demonstrations, time-honored Marine Corps traditions, musical performances and other events to showcase the history, military capabilities and community involvement of the Corps. More than 80 free public events will take place across the city. Downtown events include:

- Static Displays at Riverfront Park and Ascend Amphitheater Thursday, September 8 - Saturday, September 10 from 10 am - 7 pm and Sunday, September 11 from 9 am - 1 pm
- Work out with the Marines at Walk of Fame Park Thursday, September 8 - Saturday, September 10 from 7 am - 8 am
- "Sound Strike" at Wildhorse Saloon Thursday, September 8 from 9:30 pm - 10:30 pm
- Marine Air-Ground Task Force Show at Riverfront Park Friday, September 9 from 1:15 pm - 2:30 pm and Sunday, September 11 from 10:15 am - 11:15 am
- Marine Band San Diego Concert at Riverfront Park Friday, September 9 from 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
- Marine Boot Camp Challenge at Walk of Fame Park Saturday, September 10 from 3 pm - 6 pm
- Parade along Lower Broadway Saturday, September 10 from 5 pm - 6 pm
- "Sound Strike" at Tin Roof Broadway Saturday, September 10 from 7 pm - 10 pm
- 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony with the Marines and community leaders at War Memorial Plaza Sunday, September 11 from 9 am - 10 am

Please note: Downtown Nashville should expect increased noise and vibrations on Thursday, September 8 from noon - 3 pm, Friday, September 9 from 1:15 pm - 1:45 pm and Sunday, September 11 from 10:15 am - 10:45 am due to Marine Air-Ground Task Force demonstrations. These include the use of low-flying aircraft, pyrotechnics, amphibious assault vehicles, military vehicles and Marine infantry.

 

Street Food Thursdays

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 11 AM - 2 PM

Enjoy a gathering of up to 20 local food trucks parked along Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North every Thursday through October.

 

An Evening with Glennon Doyle Melton, in Conversation with Ann Patchett

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 6:30 PM

Salon@615 and TPAC presents an evening with Glennon Doyle Melton, in conversation with Ann Patchett. The event will celebrate the release of Melton's new work, "Love Warrior." A hardcover, signed edition of "Love Warrior" is included with each ticket. Salon@615 is an ongoing partnership between Nashville Public Library, Nashville Public Library Foundation, Parnassus Books, Humanities Tennessee and Bookpage, designed to nurture and celebrate the literary life of Nashville by presenting bestselling authors for talks and book signings.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, SHOW TIMES VARY BY DATE
LOCATION: TPAC - TENNESSEE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER $20 - $75

Activist, suffragist and venerated celebrity, Eva Perón captivated a nation as Argentina’s First Lady. The international musical sensation "Evita" chronicles her life and work, from her humble beginnings in the rural lowlands of South America through her ascent to fame, fortune and untimely death. Broadway powerhouse Eden Espinosa stars in Studio Tenn’s custom-designed presentation, a collaboration with TPAC built right here in Music City, using the finest talents from Nashville and New York. Following its initial debut as a rock opera concept album in 1976, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash hit stage production of "Evita" swept the 1980 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical and others and has been performed all over the world.

 

Italian Lights Festival

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, FRIDAY: NOON - 10 PM; SATURDAY: 10 AM - 10 PM; SUNDAY: 10 AM - 6 PM
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL FREE

Enjoy the sights and sounds of Italy—Music City style! The seventh annual Italian Lights Festival features the culture and cuisine of the old country in a family-friendly environment. The festival is free to the public and features live music each day, in addition to 100 arts and crafts vendors and 20 food vendors. Featured events include traditional grape stomping, bocce ball tournament, kids' events and the popular meatball eating contest. Wine experts will also lead cultivated wine tasting events over the course of the weekend.

 

Ben Folds with the Nashville Symphony

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 8 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $74 - $88

Enjoy a spectacular evening at the Symphony as Ben Folds returns to kick off Schermerhorn Symphony Center’s 10th anniversary season with an encore performance of his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. Folds’ most recent album, "So There," debuted at No. 1 on  the Classical and Classical Crossover charts, and it has continued to stay in the Top 20 since its release in fall 2015. Along with songs off his album "So There," Folds’ performance with Maestro Giancarlo Guerrero and the Nashville Symphony will showcase his pop hits and his critically acclaimed concerto, along with classic American works by Bernstein, Gershwin and more.

 

Bridgestone Arena and Nashville Predators Job Fair

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 10 AM - 3 PM
LOCATION: BRIDGESTONE ARENA FREE

Are you interested in becoming a part of the team that makes one of the busiest venues in the United States run? The Nashville Predators and Bridgestone Arena vendors Service Management Systems, Delaware North Corporation, Contemporary Service Corporation and Levy Restaurants are looking to hire positions in public safety, operations, box office, housekeeping, catering services, retail, concessions and crowd management for the upcoming season. The job fair will take place Saturday, September 10 from 10 am - 3 pm at Bridgestone Arena (enter the main entrance off of Broadway and 5th Avenue). Hiring managers may be conducting interviews on the spot. Come prepared with your resume.

 

Artifact Discovery Day

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 10 AM - 2 PM
LOCATION: TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM FREE

The Tennessee State Museum will hold an Artifact Discovery Day for the public to bring in personally owned artifacts to be identified by experts on Saturday, September 10 from 10 am - 2 pm. The event will take place near the Visitor’s Desk on Level D of the museum. The artifacts will include Native American artifacts, both prehistoric and historic pieces, and fossils. Archaeologists will identify, but not appraise, the objects. There is no charge for the identification. The event is being held in conjunction with September being named Tennessee Archaeology Awareness Month.

 

​14th Annual Wine on the River

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 3 PM - 7 PM
LOCATION: JOHN SEIGENTHALER PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE $59 GENERAL ADMISSION

Enjoy the 14th annual Wine on the River and travel through 10 different regions spanning the globe. Sample wine, beer and/or spirits specific to that region and a restaurant featuring a culturally themed menu. Take a break from your travels and listen to the soothing sounds of live jazz music. The world tour will be held on the beautiful John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, the perfect place with breathtaking views overlooking downtown Nashville.

 

​10th Annual Cumberland River Dragon Boat Festival

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 8 AM - 4 PM
LOCATION: EAST BANK GREENWAY FREE FOR SPECTATORS

The Cumberland River Dragon Boat Festival combines the excitement of racing with the beauty and spectacle of Nashville's diverse culture. In Chinese tradition, the dragon is a symbol of health and prosperity, and dragon boat racing inspires health and fitness among participants as well as spectators. The races begin at 9 am and four teams will race approximately every 10 minutes. One team will be crowned the Grand Champion during the closing ceremonies at the Main Festival Tent.

 

Tennessee Titans vs. Minnesota Vikings

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, NOON
LOCATION: NISSAN STADIUM $43 - $695

Enjoy the first Tennessee Titans home game of the 2016 regular season as they take on the Minnesota Vikings! Please note: road closures associated with this event. The Woodland Street Bridge will close beginning as early as 9 am and will be available to only pedestrians and shuttle buses through the conclusion of the game. Plus, the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge will be open to eastbound and westbound traffic until the beginning of the fourth quarter. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge will be open to westbound traffic only.

 

Courtyard Concerts: The WannaBeatles

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 11:45 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

The library's hit music series continues. Bring a lunch to the library courtyard and enjoy free music by top acts in many genres every Tuesday through October 4. The WannaBeatles will perform on Tuesday, September 13. No ordinary tribute band, The WannaBeatles is a high-energy group featuring four award-winning musicians with a passion for the songs of John, Paul, George and Ringo. Using their multi-instrumental skills to re-create all eras of The Beatles’ song catalog, they offer an alternative to “look alike” acts by using showmanship, comedy and specially created Beatles-inspired material.

During Bridgestone Arena events, park for free at Nissan Stadium Lot R. Optional round-trip shuttle service is $3 per person with a convenient drop-off point near the arena. Click here for details.
