Americana Music Festival

THROUGH SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25

The 17th annual Americana Music Festival features five nights of 215 live performances at venues throughout Nashville at night. Plus, seminars, panels and networking opportunities will take place throughout the day. Downtown venues include 12th & Porter3rd and Lindsley, Acme Feed & Seed, Cannery BallroomCity Winery, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Downtown Presbyterian Church, George Jones Museum, High Watt at Mercy LoungeMercy Lounge, Riverfront Park and Ascend AmphitheaterRyman Auditorium, Sheraton Nashville Downtown Hotel, Emma, Station Inn, Third Man Records and Union Station Hotel. A $60 wristband grants access to all of the venues every night of the festival (wristbands do not guarantee entry if venue is at capacity). Mahler's Second

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, THURSDAY: 7 PM; FRIDAY & SATURDAY: 8 PM
LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $22 - $109

Mahler's epic Symphony No. 2 offers a resounding testament to the endurance of the human spirit, with some of the composer's most dramatic and transcendently beautiful music. This event will feature the Nashville Symphony chorus, vocal soloists and an ensemble of offstage musicians. The concert will also pay tribute to Schermerhorn Symphony Center's namesake, Maestro Kenneth Schermerhorn, with one of his works for orchestra. Two movements from this piece were performed at the grand opening of Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Before you hear Kenneth Schermerhorn’s "Jubilee: A Tennessee Quilting Party for Orchestra," experience an interactive quilting bee exhibit on loan from the Tennessee State Museum. Pre-concert activities begin one hour prior to concert time in the East Lobby.

 

Street Food Thursdays

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 11 AM - 2 PM

Enjoy a gathering of up to 20 local food trucks parked along Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North every Thursday through October.

 

Riffs on the Rails: Americana Music Festival Edition

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 6 PM - 8 PM
LOCATION: UNION STATION HOTEL FREE

Union Station Hotel is presenting a special edition of its Riffs on the Rails music series in honor of the Americana Music Festival! The event will feature Billy Bragg and Joe Henry to launch their new album, “Shine a Light.” These legendary singer/songwriters have been recording from the great American railroad and have chosen Nashville’s historic train station to culminate their journey, as well as to play a few riffs.

 

JDRF One Walk

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 8 AM - NOON
LOCATION: BICENTENNIAL MALL FREE

The JDRF One Walk is a way for attendees to show support for those living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and raise funds for JDRF, the leading global organization focused on T1D research. Registration and fun kicks off at 8 am, and the one-mile walk (beginning and ending at Bicentennial Mall) starts at 10 am. Please note: road closures associated with this event. 6th Avenue North (Harrison Street to Jefferson Street), west-bound lane of Harrison Street (6th Avenue North to 7th Avenue North) and 7th Avenue North (Harrison Street to Jefferson Street) will be closed from 8 am - 11 am on Saturday, September 24.

 

Nashville Brew Fest

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, NOON - 4 PM
LOCATION: FIRST TENNESSEE PARK $40 GENERAL ADMISSION; $60 VIP

The Nashville Brew Festival will take place on the field and throughout the concourse of First Tennessee Park on Saturday, September 24 from noon - 4 pm. The event will feature more than 50 breweries, including Nashville’s best breweries, as well as food trucks, music, lawn games and more. Both general admission ($40) and VIP ($60) will include unlimited beer, with VIP attendees having early admission and access to specialty beer poured during the first hour. Food will be sold separately.

 

Walk Off Crime for No More Victims

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, WALK: 9:30 AM - NOON
LOCATION: JOHN SEIGENTHALER PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE $20

On Saturday, September 24, You Have the Power will be hosting the seventh annual Walk Off Crime! Join at the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge for a 5K walk through scenic downtown Nashville to raise awareness for crime victims. Don't miss out on a day of fun and activity all for a great cause.

 

A Day of Hope, Health and Healing

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 8 AM - 3 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM FREE

Saint Thomas Health Ministry presents its A Day of Hope, Health and Healing on Saturday, September 24. Services provided at no cost include medical, dental and vision care, behavioral health care, diabetes screenings, cholesterol screenings, flu shots, spiritual care, select medications by the Dispensary of Hope and more. No appointment necessary.

 

School Choice Festival

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1 PM - 4 PM
LOCATION: MUSIC CITY CENTER FREE

The School Choice Festival is a one-stop-shop where families can learn about their school choices and start to find the right fit for them. This is the only time all Metro schools (neighborhood, magnet, charter and more) are in one room together. Plus, the event will include bounce houses, Nashville Public Library puppet shows, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum instruments and crafts, and free books. Free parking will be available at Nissan Stadium with frequent shuttles to Music City Center. Or, take advantage of free rides on any MTA bus.

 

Forever Country Live

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 3 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: WALK OF FAME PARK FREE

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the Country Music Association will partner to host Forever Country Live, a free concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of both the museum’s opening and the CMA Awards. The community event will be held on Sunday, September 25 at Walk of Fame Park with performances by Charlie Worsham and Grammy-nominated ensemble The Time Jumpers, featuring Country Music Hall of Fame member Vince Gill, Kenny Sears, "Ranger Doug" Green and Paul Franklin. Past CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Patty Loveless will join The Time Jumpers for a special appearance.

 

The Mercantile

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2 PM
LOCATION: MERCY LOUNGE $25 IN ADVANCE; $30 DAY OF SHOW

The Mercantile is a ticketed event that offers a platform for socially conscious brands to tell their story and sell their wares. Tickets include signature cocktails, hor d'oeuvres, live music, dancing and access to the nation's most inspiring retailers. An organic blend of commerce, cause and community, curated and packaged into an unforgettable shopping experience. This event will feature live music by The Shadowboxers.

 

Egg Cracking Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM

Join Wild Eggs, along with the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, as they celebrate their opening with a ribbon cutting and egg cracking ceremony! There will be food samples and giveaways. The ribbon cutting will take place at 10 am.

 

Courtyard Concerts: Paul Burch & WPA Ballclub

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 11:45 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY FREE

The library's hit music series continues. Bring a lunch to the library courtyard and enjoy free music by top acts in many genres every Tuesday through October 4. Paul Burch & WPA Ballclub will perform on Tuesday, September 27. For more than two decades, Burch has combined an indie rock ethos with a personal vision of roots music that has attracted a mix of equally ineffable collaborators from punk to bluegrass including Mark Knopfler, The Waco Brothers and Ralph Stanley. His albums consistently land on pop, rock and country “best of” lists in the U.S. and U.K. His latest, "Meridian Rising," is an imagined autobiography of Jimmie Rodgers, the genre-bending superstar of the late 1920s whose blend of pop, folk and blues anticipated rock ’n’ roll.

 

Lipscomb University Graduate Business Information Session

Nashville Farmers' Market Farmhand Dinner

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 6 PM
LOCATION: NASHVILLE FARMERS' MARKET $75

The fourth annual Farmhand Dinner will offer guests a unique opportunity to enjoy a family-style meal with the men and women who produced it. The Farmhand Dinner features eight of Nashville’s most talented chefs who will create a casual yet inspiring Southern meal made with fresh ingredients grown by our local farmers. This event, inspired by fifth-generation farmer Troy Smiley, honors the celebratory meal farm workers enjoyed after a long day in the fields. Mayor Megan Barry will give the welcoming remarks. The evening kicks off at 6 pm with a traditional “water break” featuring signature cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres. The dinner bell will ring at 7 pm to begin the four-course dinner and will include wine pairings and live music by Bluegrass favorite Jeremy Holt and the Tennessee Field-Hands.

 

The District's Progressive Party

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 6 PM - 10 PM

The 30th annual Progressive Party begins at Anderson Design Studio (217 2nd Avenue North), continues to The Valentine (312 Broadway) and ends at the Wildhorse Saloon (120 2nd Avenue North). The event includes delicious food, libations, music, a silent auction and free parking. Plus, Mayor Megan Barry will present Ron Gobbell of Gobbell Hays Partners with the Spirit of The DISTRICT Award. Proceeds from this event go to support The DISTRICT's holiday decorations and other projects of The DISTRICT.

 

Vino on the Veranda

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 6 PM - 9 PM
LOCATION: CITY WINERY $100

Vino on the Veranda is an annual wine tasting and silent auction. This year’s event will showcase more than 40 superior wine selections with food tastings in a beautiful location overlooking the Nashville skyline. Guests will enjoy a silent auction featuring events, travel, wine, and home and entertainment packages from a variety of local and national businesses.

 

Curator's Tour: Women, Art and Social Change: The Newcomb Pottery Enterprise

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, NOON
LOCATION: FRIST CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS GALLERY ADMISSION REQUIRED

Join Trinita Kennedy as she explores the largest presentation of Newcomb arts and crafts in more than 25 years and offers new insights into the Newcomb community’s enduring mark on American art and industry. "Women, Art and Social Change" is on view in the Upper-Level Galleries through November 6.
