Holst's The Planets: An HD Odyssey

LOCATION: SCHERMERHORN SYMPHONY CENTER $27 - $143

This spectacular performance of Holst's "The Planets" features large-screen visuals of the planets, courtesy of NASA. Experience this instantly memorable, classic work as never before! Plus, Philip Glass’ "Violin Concerto No. 1" will feature the Nashville Symphony's concertmaster, Jun Iwasaki, as soloist. Josef Strauss was the brother of “waltz king” Johann Strauss II. His "Music of the Spheres" will complete this fantastic musical journey into outer space.

 

Street Food Thursdays

Enjoy a gathering of up to 20 local food trucks parked along Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North! This event will take place every other Thursday November through March. Please note: If the high is not above 40 degrees on the day of the event, the event will be canceled.

 

Natural Wonder: The Ultimate Stevie Wonder Experience

While Stevie Wonder impersonators dot the landscape, Natural Wonder rolls into town with the full-band experience complete with a crack rhythm section, full-fledged horn ensemble and the formidable Gabriel Bello channeling the energy and artistry that has made Stevie an icon across decades and genres. Bello and the industry veterans who comprise Natural Wonder recreate the look, feel and sound of a Stevie set with all the musicianship necessary to blow audiences away with a seemingly unending barrage of hit songs that span the Stevie catalog.

 

Film: Seven Samurai

Bold, powerful, deadly—these words epitomize the samurai of the silver screen. Inspired by the historical military caste, samurai films tell human stories with rousing action and adventure. Exemplifying the archetype of a noble warrior, these characters continue to captivate audiences, whether they appear in stately period films or kitschy slashers. This series is presented in conjunction with the exhibit "Samurai: The Way of the Warrior," on view at the Frist Center through January 16, 2017. Don't miss a screening of "Seven Samurai" (1954) at the Frist Center on Friday, January 13.

 

The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County

Don't miss the Twain classic tale of a con man and his notorious frog in this comment on foolishness and consequences told by Wishing Chair puppets with an energetic bluegrass score by Tom McBryde. For ages 5 and up. This event will take place on Fridays and Saturdays January 13, 14, 20 and 21.

Nashville B-cycle

New year, new you! Purchase an annual membership and use B-cycle to achieve your health goals. Annual memberships are only $50 - much cheaper than a gym membership. Over 280 bright red bikes are located at 35 convenient B-stations around town. Nashville B-cycle is priced for quick rides. After joining, you can take an unlimited number of rides during your membership period with no additional charge for the first hour of any ride. Usage fees apply for all rides that exceed one hour. Nashville B-cycle: bikes you love and leave!
